SAVE THE SUTTON ESTATE
Affinity Sutton’s plans for redevelopment of the estate will be considered by the Planning Committee of the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea
When: TUESDAY, 15 NOVEMBER, at 6.30 p.m. – 8.30 p.m.
Where: Small Hall, RBKC Town Hall, Hornton Street, W8 7NX
Affinity Sutton claim that they won’t have enough money to replace all the social housing floor space without building flats and houses for private owners. The Council officers, having examined Affinity Sutton’s figures, say that that is rubbish. In their words,
1. The proposal fails to demonstrate that the maximum amount of affordable housing is being provided and the proposals would result in a net loss of social rented floorspace
2. The proposals are of insufficient high design quality and would not positively contribute to the surrounding townscape
3. There are no agreed s106 obligations to secure affordable housing and appropriate infrastructure required to make the development acceptable’.
It will be up to the Councillors on the Committee to make their decision based on the officers’ report. Because this is so important to residents on the estate, we have arranged transport to the Town Hall on Tuesday evening so that supporters of the campaign to Save the Estate can demonstrate that they agree with the report. A coach will leave from opposite Tom’s kitchen on Cale Street at 5.15 on Tuesday evening.
Cllr "Boy" Marshall, Chairman of the Planning Committee, had better get his ponies in order.
ReplyDeleteIt is a huge joke that piggy ever allowed this flip flop to be appointed to this important and high profile position of responsibility.
All eyes are on the Councillors on the planning committee.
ReplyDeleteIt is going to be a one pony chukka, if I am not mistaken
ReplyDeleteWhat crap. Worthy of the silly Dame. A Chelsea hag.
DeleteThis obviously a comment from the very strange Cllr Palmer. We used to be good friends sharing the same habits.
DeleteThe fact that he so assiduously reads the dear Dame proves how fearful he is of here. Now, zip it up Palmer, or Cllr Palmer as he adores to be known!
The arguments from Officers are very powerful. Simple. To the point. Understandable. But all of the arguments are concerned with legal guidelines, box ticking, and covering their back sides. Nevertheless, a good start. The developers of course will drive a coach and horses through all of this. They play a canny game. They will "thank Officers for their time and valuable comment" and then go away and return with a few more affordable houses and some tarted up windows.
ReplyDeleteCouncillors need to wade in with the fundamentals of society and say NO< NO< NO
(i) no more smashing up of communities
(ii) no more "buy to leave" empty flats that do not spend in the community which destroys the retail and service infrastructure
(iii) no more destruction of the high principles of the Sutton Founders
On a wholesale basis this stupid Government has been encouraging job creation by building new homes. But the current practice in Kensington and Chelsea (Buy To Leave) is short term jobs to destroy the future. What we need is policies that create employment by building affordable homes that are livid in by UK passport holders.
It is time to stop this abuse and the brown envelope culture. Councillors need to do their duty and represent their residents. And build a healthy, long term, society.
Piggy, take note
There has been plenty of criticism of Cllr Marshall and a lack of confidence about his ability to take the high ground and represent residents. But it needs to be pointed out that he has a unique opportunity to be brave and to stand out. It is moments like this when reputations are made.
ReplyDeleteWhen Teresa May told a Tory Party conference that "voters call us the Nasty Party" there was a stunned silence from the audience. But she connected up with millions of voters because she had been LISTENING and UNDERSTANDING. A completely different approach to lesser politicians dedicated to spinning and puffing.
ReplyDeleteThe point of view of residents and voters of Sutton Estate has been set out in detail by the Dame. With clear and simple clarity. Its there on a plate for Cllr Marshall if he cares to LISTEN.
Go for it, boyo
I think we need also to wonder about brown envelopes and whether in fact they go to some planning officers that make ludicrous recommendations to approve certain developments. One that springs to mind is the recent disgraceful decision in Bramley Road that ruins Scampston Mews and nearby properties. That came from the left field and councillors were as surprised as anyone.
ReplyDeleteThat decision was odd, especially as it will effect playground opposite. This council has disenfranchised every resident up and down the scale across the borough.
DeleteWe are all sick and tired of them and they should tread carefully for we all have long memories especially when we go to the polling station.
Brown envelopes? Indeed and fat ones at that...Bank transfers even to 'havens' can be traced. Trunks of cash under their beds?
ReplyDeleteWhen is this sordid lot due for re-election? I think that some of these Cllrs should fear for their jobs...
Sad Badger, don't forget paying school fees and holidays with other perks. Has any one seen a councillors expenses form?
DeleteTime to see last 10 years these councillors have been claiming!
Lets see if the Sutton Estate goes the same way as Marlborough School', Thamesmead, Holland Park School, Earls Court Olympia, The Odeon,Queens Head Pub and so on and so on .Rapricious Raping of local Community Assets .
ReplyDeleteThere is also a moral dilemma here . This estate was left as a legacy to the poor . The manipulating of the Spirit of the Will by Affinity Sutton is ' crass '. These homes and assets are to provide housing for the poor of Chelsea - not as part of an investment portfolio for Exford and his chums - disgusting behavior from a so- called social housing provider .These guys are crooks in suits .
ReplyDeleteWell put. Now that residents are watching so are the journos!
DeleteWhen is the Mayor going to investigate that lot .
ReplyDeleteIf this goes down then our Councillors should hang their heads in shame .
ReplyDeleteThats the problem they have no shame. To tackle sex carding in telephone boxes they have just put up opaque glass rather than force the blue bottles to arrest, charge and deport these crims.
DeleteWonder if we payed for the opaque glass or BT?
If this doesn't get turned down - then the democratic process is dead in RBKC . The residents have had to put up with this posturing for 5 years - hanging over their heads like the sword of Damocles .Can't they just get on with their real job of providing social housing and renovate the estate properly -. Affinity Sutton claim they are worth 2 Billion . They claim they haven't the funds to renovate the estate - Poppycock .
ReplyDeleteWhy have the developers pursued a planning application that quite clearly should not be passed by council , Surely if they have been working with the officers over two years - the officers would have pointed out the flaws in the application .
ReplyDeleteHave A/S another agenda ?
Remember Brexit Councillors. Elected officials brushing aside the requests of the voters . Not listening to the real concerns of the people who cast the votes . Pandering to the wishes of overseas interests instead of British people. I can see UKIP Fielding a few candidates round here , then we might get Councillors who listen and don't take brown envelopes to pay the school fees .
ReplyDeleteYes, Looking after the interests of Money Launderers, Despots, Oversea's Property Developers. Carlisle Square is like a ghost Town at night . We know Councillors like these kind of residents, less strain on local services , whilst paying the top amount of Council Tax. Social Cleansing .
DeleteHow are they allowed to get away with this ?
ReplyDeleteWe need some well known independents to stand in all conservative Wards this is the only thing they understand. Losing their job would kill them!
DeleteIf independents let it be known NOW they are standing this and next year before 2018 election we might see some action across this borough.
As has been pointed out in previous post 25-30% of the electorate are voting in all wards that means 70% of the electorate in the wards are availale to vote against these dinosaurs.
That is a very good idea. That is how the Sloane Square plan was stopped. That is why the Council did a private deal to give North Ken Library to Notting Hill Prep when they threatened to stand against Tories in 2014. Come forward now and threaten them. UKIP is not the way forward. Voters in this Borough are not that stupid!
DeleteThere will be a queue of individuals who will run as Independent Candidates if this lot don't buck up ! We are watching.
DeleteHere are the Councillors overseeing Sutton tomorrow.

Stanley Ward always run an Independent Candidate.
ReplyDeleteOnly 32% turn out. Need to get that 68% out to vote!
DeleteWe are watching !
ReplyDeleteKerry Kyriacou of Affinity Sutton is claiming that ' much estate of the estate is empty and has been for years ' what rot . Shows how many times he's been to the estate over the years .
ReplyDeleteMr Kyriaciou is also claiming ' if we are unable to offer them a decent place to live in Chelsea , we may need to move them to another area where appropriate accommodation is available '. We already have decent places in Chelsea , just do them up. Tenants are not 'cattle ' to be moved around as he pleases.
