WELL DONE SHARON DYBALL FROM RBKC LICENSING TEAM/HARRODS

WELL DONE SHARON

Nothing gives the Dame greater pleasure than patting an officer on the back. Well done, Sharon. This is an excellent explanation for residents.

Dear xxxxx
Thank you for forwarding to the licensing team a copy of your email opposing the current planning application submitted by Harrods. The planning department will no doubt respond to you in due course. However, in view of your comments I thought I would let you know about the licensing application which Harrods recently submitted for a new premises licence for the following activities and times

Film Exhibitions, Live and Recorded Music, Performances of Dance and Entertainment Similar to Music/Dance,  Facilities for Making Music, Dancing and Similar Entertainment
Monday to Saturday 9am to 11pm
Sunday 10am to 11pm
(unrestricted hours for private entertainment – music, dance and similar entertainment)

Late Night Refreshment
Monday to Saturday 11pm to 11.30pm
Sunday 11pm to midnight
(00.30 in the Georgian Restaurant)

Sale and Supply of Alcohol both On and Off the premises
Monday to Saturday 9am to 11pm
Sunday 10am to 10.30pm
(midnight in the Georgian Restaurant)

Non Standard Times for all the above - From the end of permitted hours on New Year's Eve to the start of permitted hours on New Year's Day

The proposed licensable activities and hours are the same as the existing licence. However, as the current licence only relates to specified areas within the store, as identified on the plans, if Harrods wish to alter, relocate, or increase the licensed areas they currently have to apply for either a minor or major variation each time.

Harrods have therefore applied for a new licence and proposed a condition such that "if there is any alteration to the plans and the licensed areas, new plans would need to be lodged with the licensing authority and police in advance of such change, and any such change to be subject to veto by the police or licensing authority." In this way changes could be made to the plans without the need to submit a variation application each time, although if the licensing authority or police were to veto the proposed change, Harrods would be required to submit a variation application.

Should you wish to object to the licence application please write to the licensing team no later than 19 July 2012 specifying the grounds for your objection and stating how you think the application would impact on, or fail to promote, one or more of the licensing objectives, which are

Prevention of Public Nuisance
Prevention of Crime and Disorder
Public Safety
Protection of Children from Harm.

If you require any further information or assistance please do not hesitate to contact either myself or another member of the licensing team.

Yours sincerely

Sharon Dyball
Licensing Team

  2. Clearly the Dame's campaign to oppose the Harrods plans is bearing early fruit. Reading between the lines, the K&C enforcement team has taken note of the opposition and is setting out the parameters and the process for residents to stop this latest nonsense from Harrods

    Three cheers for the Dame

  3. It seems that the ball is now firmly in the hands of residents who have to do their stuff and write in making their objections known. A big thanks is due to the Dame

If residents sit on their hands and do nothing, then we have no grounds for moaning. You have been warned!

  4. I wonder where Inspector Palmer sits on this issue?

  5. Thanks, Dame.
The planning issue is still there though and it must be stopped. Otherwise those of us live nearby will face non-stop activity into the early hours in the streets.

  7. This latest application by Harrods, if successful, would be a further erosion of the quality of life for residents within the neighbourhood. Whilst permission to sell alcohol until 11pm has already been granted in certain areas of the store, Harrods is now seeking to increase the areas where this would be allowed, thereby compounding the existing problem of anti-social behaviour within the surrounding streets. Enough is enough and, to quote a line from Cllr. Abbas Barkhordar's election manifesto, "A late night economy taking root should be discouraged".
