Wood blocks stuck on an old girder is some RBKC officer's idea of good taste!
No doubt the expenses paid trip to Holland determined the decision!
The Royal Borough boasts residents with more than a modicum of good taste. Why were their opinions not sought!
This benching is hideous, affected, and entirely out of keeping with the villagey feel of the Green.
Then we turn to the idiotic fountain....it looks like the sort of junk a LA film producer would erect in his Malibu beachfront home. The Council has wasted tens of thousands of pounds on the vulgarisation of Chelsea Green.
These benches are from the same manufacturer as the ghastly benches cluttering up the pavements on High Street Kensington. The High Street Kensington benches cost £3000 each. Plus transport and fitting. And huge maintenance to clear regular graffiti. And impeding pedestrian flow on the pavements at v busy times.Brain child of silly Cllr Faulks. The birdbrain does not understand that pavements are for walking and not sitting
ReplyDeleteUtterly horrid . How many people have noticed Knightsbridge Green is now called Knightsbridge Station probably for the ease of bus passengers. The history of the place is lost and it will happen here in Chelsea .
ReplyDeleteThey're handy if you want to pause with a hot drink or bulky shopping but the benches also attract people with poor hygiene.
ReplyDeleteWhat a waste of money. All the plants originally planted are dead and they replanted and the same. Why didn’t they just wait for the warmer weather to plant. The seating looks awful but won’t deter the undesirable s going there if you know what I mean. A waste of tax payers money
ReplyDeleteOh what shame. What was wrong with the old Green in the first place? Who's on the design board? I am an American living in London and thought Brits were fiscally conservative and aesthetically advanced. I gather I could be wrong.
ReplyDeleteMaybe certain parts of America suffer from the same monopoly evils that we have in the Royal Borough. Too many Councillors and Officers, not enough to do, and too much taxpayers money to spend. And an apathetic bunch of residents who allow it all to continue just so long as the dustbins get cleared on time. RBKC is run by a bunch of self possessed puffers, with an abominable Leader at the helm, who fraudulently parade under the banner of "Conservatives". They are nothing of the sort. Kensington and Chelsea desperately needs a strong opposition to wake the system up.
DeleteThis Council is currently spending council tax on a "Story Teller" as well as importing benches from Holland. Looney Tunes comes to mind.......
DeleteA root and branch investigation is required by Conservative Central Office about the failure to apply Conservative values in the Royal Borough
ReplyDeleteCCHQ, as is is now known, is also no longer conservative, neither are the entire party operation and leadership. They wouldn't care.
DeleteWhere’s is our resident perma PHD student and K&C expert on all matters Emma Bent Coad? Where’s the scrutiny on her side?
ReplyDeleteTrivia like benches in Chelsea is not the kind of thing that EDC wastes time on. She is fighting to preserve the soul of Labour in the Royal Borough and introduce the light of Marxist enlightenment
DeleteEmma Dent Coad is completely useless: the egocentric, Permanent Ph.D Student, the Classist Socialist, and Housing Specialist whom Sir Martin Moore Bick treated with the disdain and contempt that she deserves.
DeleteNow don't forget, Emma Dent Coad played the Tory game by serving on the KCTMO as a Director for many years. She was content for tenants to be shafted by the Tory TMO. She expected Sir Martin Moore Bick to be interested in what she had to say. It stuck in her craw that she was relegated to the sidelines, when she was a Member of Parliament, especially as she had all the left wing answers over Grenfell and the TMO. Judith Blakeman's evidence was heard by the Grenfell Tower Inquiry.
Indeed her evidence to the Grenfell enquiry was Judith Blakeman's finest hour and the climax of 35 years public service . Service for which both the borough & her party have been insufficiently grateful

ReplyDeleteI agree Judith is a star.
DeleteWhen Hornets went for Sir Porter Cockell, he took it like a man.
When Hornets have gone for Emma Dent Coad, she complains that the blog is repetitive & boring. Judith would never resort to playing the distressed little lady in grown up politics.
