What on earth does E. Campbell think she's doing?
This is North Kensington reports that the foolish woman is a guest of MPIM at their debauched event in Cannes. LINK
The Dame has always felt there was something 'new rich and vulgar' about Campbell: her trip to Cannes seems to validate the suspicion!
Major banks have refused to attend because of the reports of degrading behaviour.
One paper reported.." The organisers of Mipim, the property industry’s annual “champagne, yachts and fun” bash in Cannes, have repeatedly warned delegates to “respect all individuals” and reminded the 25,000 attendees that “under no circumstances does Mipim register prostitutes”.
“What other industry on the face of the earth needs to remind businessmen that they can’t bring prostitutes to an industry conference,” asked Jane, a 29-year-old delegate from Manchester. “That alone tells you how backward property is.”
Cllr Campbell has a reputation for having minders and an entourage when pottering around the Borough.
We need to know whether we taxpayers will be contributing to this purposeless jaunt.

Sample from "entertainment" at MIPIM : strippers with chainsaws and ice sculptures. Is this sort of image the Royal Borough wants to be associated with? Cannot see any benefit to residents at all from Campbell attending.
ReplyDeleteAs the article goes, she is a wasteful and ridiculous leader and ought to resign. Also can we have a spreadsheet of a full breakdown of Council spending made available to the public?
One wonders how much was wasted on Barry Quirk's expensive directors and how much is going on pointless pr and unnecessary staff. If there is nothing to hide then one has to ask why they are making an effort to hide their spending and activities.
I would not normally lower myself by reading this vile blog but my attention was drawn to this slur on the character of my one time colleague, Cllr Campbell. For some years I was chairman of the Planning Committee. A major part of my duty was to maintain close relationships with developers whilst at the same time avoiding various proffered inducements: inducements, I might suggest, other lesser men and women might have taken. Thus, I can candidly and without reservation recommend that the leader attend the conference and meet property developers keen to enhance our Borough.
ReplyDeleteDaniel, we know you have a penchant for telling massive lies but don’t you dare try and hoodwink everyone into thinking you don’t read this blog. Your pathetic comments are a staple of some of the more infantile posts on this blog.
Delete12:09 Lord Moylan to you
Deleteas always dan, my only reasonable reply to your command is: f*** off.
DeleteMay I join with Lord Moylan in supporting this trip to Cannes. Certainly, were I in Cllr Campbell's position I would have made every effort to attend knowing of the great benefits to the Borough my attendance would elicit. The naysayers will say that such trips are opportunities to be entertained. I, myself have yet to experience prostitutes, sent by sharp suited property spivs, tapping at my suite.
ReplyDeleteThere was once a dinner or two. At an expensive New York restaurant. Including a Saturday night. After a "conference" with the Mayor of New York that ended on the Friday. But of course you stayed on for a weekend of rest and recreation. And then submitted sky high dinner bills to RBKC for a guest "whose name you forgot". When the Dame exposed all of this scandalous living on the Council Tax, your lady wife who was left at home in Earls Court was beside herself with fury. And there were quite a few harsh words.
DeleteSpeaking from 'beyond the grave' I would support Daniel and Merrick in encouraging the Leader to attend MIPRIM. When I was chairman of the Planning Committee I found these events most productive in allowing me to engage with developers wishing to exploit opportunities in the Borough. Yes, I did feel that 'inducements' were part and parcel of chairmanship. I advise the setting up of offshore accounts to shelter payments. So, yes....go to Cannes!
ReplyDeleteIt is outrageous (and dreadful political judgement) for the Leader of RBKC (representing the highest land values in the UK) to attend an offshore junket by UK property developers. It is a transparent inducement exercise to build relationships between developers and politicians. This is most extraordinary news. Shows again what a complete lack of judgement Cllr Campbell has.
ReplyDeleteWhat else will she get up to in Cannes?
ReplyDeleteI will treat that comment with the utter disdain it deserves.
DeleteOur girl loves to rub shoulders with money. And she adores the attention of those looking for favours. Gives her a sense of power.
DeleteIt is high time for Tory Councillors to vote Cllr Campbell out of the Leaders Office. She has diminished the self respect of Conservatives
ReplyDeleteHaving actually read the THINK article properly, unlike most others by the look of things, I think it is worth pointing out that Campbell is attending this jolly in her London Councils capacity and not her RBK&C one. THINK are also seemingly enraged that she has not pre reported her attendance in her disclosure of member's interests but that cannot be done untilm after the hospitality has been received, not in advance. I'm not defending Campbell attending MIPIM but accuracy is important.
ReplyDeleteDear 11.54. No one has heard of London Councils. Certainly not property developers. London Councils has no power to approve or prevent developments. Local Councils do. And RBKC has the highest land values in the UK. ie the highest opportunity for developers to make profits. At the stroke of a pen, RBKC can rezone a building and create £ MILLIONS in value for developers.
DeleteDevelopers will do what they can to be discrete when glad handing politicians in RBKC. Especially the Leader. How inocent to invite a Member of London Borough Councils to Cannes - especially when that non person is Leader of RBKC.
Get it?
11.54 tells us that Cllr Campbell attended the property shindig in Cannes with Kensington and Chelsea property developers "in her London Councils capacity". What humbug. Who signed off her expenses? RBKC did. RBKC taxpayers footed the bill for her jolly.
DeleteDisgraced ex Cllr Cockle used to do the same when he was at London Councils, while also serving as RBKC Leader. In his capacity as London Councils he flew first class to New York, got the Mayor's Bentley to take him to Heathrow, got a stretch limo from JFK to his Manhattan five star hotel, finished his two day conference organised by the Mayor of New York, stayed on for the weekend, entertained unnamed friends at the Four Seasons for dinner. Who picked up the bill? RBKC tax payers picked up the bill. The Dame got busy with Freedom Of Information and made a huge fuss, briefed the Daily Mail and the Evening Standard, and it was the end of Cockle's campaign to get himself into the Lords. The low life was busted.
Campbell, beware. The Dame has you in her sights.
Campbell ought to have the capacity to have a sense of judgement whether certain behaviours or decisions are appropriate or not and certainly when attendance at certain events is inappropriate. This is inappropriate for her as Leader of RBKC and it is inappropriate for her as (revolving not elected ) Chair of London councils. If the Conservative councillor above happens to think that it is right for the RBKC Leader to be attending and giving the thumbs up to such a vulgar and corrupt event then they should say so, (but then again, the same Conservative Councillor commenting above voted for and endorses Campbell as Leader so bang goes any sensible judgement there)
ReplyDeleteComment is directed at 11:54 and not at Observer (who has their finger on the pulse) btw.
DeleteDizzy Lizzy should be thanking the Labour councillors for being so incompetent and consistently failing to call out the RBKC Leadership.
ReplyDelete"London Councils" is the rebranded Association of Local Government.
ReplyDeleteAll London councils are members and all at some point take a turn on the executive. Current Leader is Camden leader Georgia Gould.
Elizabeth Campbell is Exec Member for business economy and culture. so perhaps she is there for the purpose of getting architects and developers to gentrify (and ruin) Portobello and Golborne Market. Still no guarantee from RBKC to drop that preposterous RIBA design competition.
Elizabeth, rise above the cries of the hoi polloi. We are leaders. The dogs bark but the caravans pass on by.
ReplyDeleteMerrick- "Hoi polloi" means "there are many" or "the people" in Greek. So one should refer to "hoi polloi" not, "the hoi polloi."
