Dent Coad...what went wrong?
Dear Dame
While Labour swept to power in the Boroughs of Westminster, Wandsworth and Barnet, the Comrades of Kensington failed to make any progress in the Royal Borough.
Not only did Dent Coad's merry band fail to win a single additional seat but, even though the electorate allowed them to retain all 13 of the northern seats, it demonstrated a distinct lack of confidence in several of those Labour Councillors putting themselves forward for re-election.
One might ordinarily expect returning councillors to 'top the poll' in wards where their co-councillor candidates were inexperienced and unknown 'newbies'.
But in Golborne, Colville,St.Helens and Notting Barnes wards Messers Lari, Bakhtiar, Thaxter and Elnaghi all received fewer votes than one of their new juniors.
This would appear to demonstrate that the electorate prefers to put its faith in the new people rather than in those that have represented them for the previous 4 years.
Not only have the 'retreads' failed to cultivate a personal following but it appears that the more familiar the voters are with the candidates the less inclined they are to give them their vote. In truth, the differences in votes between candidates of the same party are not huge but it is striking that in 4 of the 5 wards held by Labour 'experience ' counts for so little. ( And even in Dalgarno ward Cllr.Ali's winning vote was far far less than that the electorate had previously given to former Cllr Healy)
Perhaps the new members of the Kensington Labour Group will take this as encouragement from the voters to strike off in a new direction and look to the Labour Victors in Westminster & Hammersmith as their role models and not the squabbling, idle and unconvincingly 'pseudo lefties' remaining from the previous council.

Political Observer.
Dear Dame,
ReplyDeleteWe have Emma Dent Coad to thank for Labour's abysmal showing in Kensington and Chelsea whereas her politically astute counterparts in Westminster, Wandsworth, and Hammersmith and fulham have done marvellously. That stupid woman could not even manage to get the Labour vote out in Chelsea Riverside Ward, with all the Labour supporters living on the World's End Council Estate and in Housing Association properties in the Ward, Chelsea Riverside should have been Labour for the taking.
In Colville the new candidates got 60% of the vote. This is Labour’s strongest vote in Colville by far in memorable history. This ward is truly no longer marginal and no matter how much this blog tries to suggest otherwise because they may be sore about the fate of their predecessors, it is a resounding endorsement of the new candidates by the electorate.
ReplyDeleteThe Tories said local labour was in disarray and insinuated that the new candidates are out of touch. This has been proved to be factually incorrect.
Emma Dent Coad also resoundingly endorsed in formerly marginal St Helens.
60% increase?
DeleteOK, I'll play - have you congratulated the Liberal Democrats for their 100% increase in Councillors compared to Labour's 0% increase?
This Borough should be Labour since 2018 when voters had their first chance to voice their opinion on the Grenfell Tower Fire.
Emma was reduced to a fag end being flushed down the loo when Labour Councillor sacked her as their Leader on the Council. Kensington does not want a fag end representing it in Parliament.
DeleteEmma Dent Coad shafted Ian Henderson because he is more intelligent and is intellectually superior. Intellectaually superior because Dent Coad does not have the intelligence to "understand" what Starmer is trying to do.If she cannot comprehend Starmer she should not be representing the Labour party. By saying that she does not understand Starmer and his approach she is actively working against the interests of her Party. She is Corbyn's most loyal sycophant. She loves being in with Marxists in the Parliamentary Party.
ReplyDeleteAny improvement in Labour's showing North Ken is not down to the conniving Marxists who now control the Kensington CLP but is more to do with Boris Johnson being so toxic. Emma, like Johnson, tries to claim credit that is not her due.
Emma shafted Ian from a ward she doesn’t even live in? Impressive.
DeleteToxic Labour is not being fair to EDC. I think she was put up to saying what she did about Starmer by her Marxist mates in parliament. She is not the sharpest knife in the drawer and did not realise that she was being used by those who did not have the guts to put their heads above the parapet.
DeleteMarxists are very good at using people to do their dirty work. Emma was desperate to be accepted by the parliamentary Trots. They would have found it very easy to influence her. She could not wait to put the knife in to Starmer's back and turn it.
DeleteShe was so lightweight that Felicity Buchan had no difficulty in making light work of her at the 2019 Election.
ReplyDeleteHer unvarnished racism turned some Black people against her.
racism?
DeleteThe results are a death knell for Emma's communistic nonsense.
DeleteShe's a thoroughly despicable politician. She was on the TMO and she knew that tenants were treated like dirt by the staff at the TMO. She was told by the many, not the few, about the TMO. Henderson would have never allowed tenants to suffer! Emma Medici Columbus Borgia Dent Coad was happy to let them suffer because she knows what is best for the plebeians who do not own their homes.
DeleteFact checker: Felicity Buchan won in 2019 by a mere 150 votes supported by a massive increase in the Lib Dem vote share driven by reports in the Guardian and Observer that a tactical vote for LD would deliver a remain candidate. Not quite the trouncing the earlier post suggests! Buchan has been an embarrassment since her election
DeleteFact check: Dent Coad lost her seat because everyone found out what an unpleasant woman she really is. People felt she should have been kicked out of Labour for being racist towards Shaun Bailey. It is true that Sam Gymiah was popular and a more high profile opponent than she would have liked.
DeleteDent Coad has always had a thing about the Lib Dems. Even before she got above her station in life and stood for Parliament, she used to be contemptuous and excessively scornful about them. Similarly scoffing to the Dame when Emma found out that Felicity Buchan had been selected by the Tories to oppose her did her no favours; being conceited does not go down well with Kensington's middle classes.
DeleteEmma,
There is no one cause of anything, the article in the Guardian that you mention is just one factor as to why you were kicked out of the Commons in 2019.
Other factors that you conveniently overlook in your scientific analysis of why you were booted out are:-
(i) your nasty racist behaviour - Sam Gymiah had no form for racial nastiness and would have appealed to voters who were concerned about you,
(ii) your unconditional support for an antisemitic marxist leader,
(iii) Kensingtonians did not want an extreme left winger as Prime Minister,
(iv) Sam Gymiah was a popular opponent with no embarrassing racist outbursts in his history,
(v) Felicity's mere 150 vote lead to which you refer is irrelevant, just one vote in our system is enough to win. What if those 150 voters just did not bother to vote, what if...........
(v) Felicity has no form for snobbery. You are a very snobbish woman.
(vi You only won by 20 votes but 20 votes versus 150 votes is irrelevant, you won by a mere 20 votes and that is what counts, you won and you lost. Stop licking your wounds.
If she gets on to the ballot in Kensington for the next general election, she will get shafted for shafting Henderson.
DeleteThanks to Dent Coad a first class cllr in Henderson has been banished just so EDC can show she's in control
ReplyDelete"Control" is very important to left wingers. Just look at the controlling tendencies of Corbyn, Abbott and Dent Coad.No wonder Boris knocked labour in to cock hats in 2019.
ReplyDeleteEDC, the Marxist, Anti-Monarchy, Racist, Class- Conscious, Anti-Semitic Socialist is a mess.
ReplyDeleteI've lived in Kensington all my life. I can't ever recall a local councillor (Emma Coad) who was disliked by so many people.
ReplyDeleteIf Cllr EDC put as much energy in to having a go at the TMO (when she was on the TMO) as she did in to shafting Henderson, the TMO would have been stopped dead in its tracks and Council housing services may not have developed as they did with such catastrophic consequences.
ReplyDeleteI used to be on the TMO Board. Emma was very personal about Reg Kerr Bell for no other reason than he was a Conservative who wore very nice tailoring. I wasn't on the TMO when Juliet Rawlings was on it but I heard that Emma didn't like her because she was a Tory.
ReplyDeleteShe used to wear that old brown skirt from What She Wants.
DeleteIf EDC had ever put as much effort into fighting the Tories as she did into removing all the ( sensible) Labour Councillors who deposed her as Group Leader 7 years ago ,then probably Labour would have done better than its abysmal result last week. But last Thursday she did finally manage to remove them all.
ReplyDeleteEven when she was serving as the Member of Parliament for North Kensington she spent more time hunting down those who had humiliated her in the Labour Group than she did actually representing her electorate.
.A good hater but a useless MP
A useless TMO Board Member too.
ReplyDeleteThe most egocentric, self serving, woman in history.
ReplyDeleteOnly 32% of the electorate turned out that's 31,621 of 96,594.
ReplyDeleteIn the last 10 years why have Labour & Lib Dems not found out who those are who have not voted & be more active in those areas.
Labour should not have stood at Earls Court Ward & Lib Dems should not have stood at Chelsea Riverside.
Now we can hold Conservatives to their promises of more police on the streets!!!!
Never mind tactics and electoral politics!
ReplyDeleteDent coad is good at tactics and strategy!
She told the BBC after Grenfell Tower Fire that there was nothing an opposition Councillor could do about the TMO.
She needed to put as much distance between herself and the TMO. Why did she go on the TMO Board if she could nothing. If a better Labour party person was on it instead of her, we might not be where we are today.
The only thing she is good at is crawling to Corbyn and Abbott.
ReplyDeleteEven Pat Mason has hightailed it back to Scotland to avoid any further association with his fellow Golborne Councillors ( Dent -Coad & Lari) . One wonders who will now do the casework for Golborne ?(Because his erstwhile colleagues are never going to do it . Cannot think of a single constituent that Dent Coad has ever actually helped )
ReplyDeleteI don't know anyone whom Dent Coad has ever helped. There is something very smug, almost aggressively defiant, about her demeanour when you tell her something dreadful about the Council. She is insular and self serving - people are pawns in her politics.
DeleteDent Coad was begged by a woman whose husband died in the Grenfell Tower fire not to sing the Fire Brigade's praises. Dent Coad ignored this victim because as an upper class woman she knew best and Comrade Corbyn wanted Emma to revere the Brigade. Thanks to Moore-Bick, all these double barrelled names, we now know the Brigade was found wanting. If she gets back in to parliament, all she will do is enhance her parliamentary pension.
She told that poor woman who lost her husband in the Grenfell fire that she had "not decided what her position (on the Brigade) would be." This is the Corbynista who told the BBC that she objected to the appointment of Sir Martin Moore-Bick because her Grenfell constituents wanted her to do so - adding, I have always taken the lead from my constituents. She has never done any such thing, liar liar her pants are on fire.
DeleteSadly for Emma and her gang, their hobby of who is the truer left wing socialist/marxist is at the expense of many working class people who are actually suffering. Although whatever helps them facilitate their personal issues I guess....
