A MISGUIDED WOMAN

Dear Dame,
This is my take on Emma Dent Coad
  • She is misguided in the way that she treats Henderson. She is setting her stall out to make a come back at the next General Election. She knows that Henderson commands respect and is an obstacle to her getting back in.
  • She was misguided when she served on the TMO Board for four years and four months and allowed the TMO to see off Council tenants - toeing the collective responsibility line at all times.
  • She was misguided when she was Convenor of Opposition Group Councillors for a year which is why they sacked her and brought in Atkinson to do the job.
  • She was misguided when she repeated nasty comments about Shaun Bailey supposedly made to her by a Black woman. She repeated these highly prejudicial racist remarks because she agreed with them and they suited the point that she wanted to make. How horrid!
  • She was misguided when she told a woman who objected to her expressing support for the Fire Brigade after the Grenfell Tower fire that "she had not decided what her position would be." That poor woman whose husband had jumped to his death had very real concerns about the Fire Brigade on that night and the Moore Bick Inquiry agreed with her. She did not heed the warning she was given.
  • She was misguided when she "liked" an antisemitic Facebook article containing a virulent antisemitic trope that a well-adjusted ten-year-old child would know was wrong.
  • She was misguided when she objected to the appointment of Sir Martin Moore Bick as Grenfell Inquiry Chairman. She told the BBC that she had always taken her lead on these things from the people she represented and her constituents did not want him. One of her constituents did not want her singing the praises of the Fire Brigade whose practices were found later wanting.
  • She was misguided when she commended the Council over its decision to refurbish Grenfell saying that it proved that the Council had listened.

She can of course disagree with Henderson but the nastiness is misguided and wrong.

Faithfully yours

"Up In North Ken"

  1. While you are posting mean comments, some of us are out on a Housing Demo, with who - Emma of course. We group of 12 regularly meet and demo on different issues. Just because no one appears to take any notice of us , does not mean its not effective. And we get to have a good chat in the pub afterwards to discuss strategy and who should be targeted to keep Emma in power.

    1. So you admit there is a conspiracy to encourage discord and in-fighting within the Party by strategically attacking colleagues ? many thanks for the confirmation. Most helpful. No doubt something that both EDC and Tumble-Dryer Mason will find most ‘edifying’…

    2. Dear Dame,

Your correspondent at 12.51 above invokes the phrase "a case of the pot calling the kettle black." It was "mean' of Emma Dent Coad to like an antisemitic remark on facebook just as it was "mean" to repeat the remarks of a Black person who was being nasty about a fellow person of colour- Shaun Bailey

  2. “ Misguided “ is a marvellous understatement of the litany of examples of her (EDC) appalling judgement. I smell fear, an emotion that can create the most awful cognitive dissonance and odd behaviour.

    When reading my friends schedule of ‘misguided’ decisions, I am reminded of the words of Plato, who so eloquently said;

“The untrained mind keeps up a running commentary, labelling everything, judging everything. Best to ignore that commentary. Don’t argue or resist, just ignore. Deprived of attention and interest, this voice gets quieter and quieter and eventually just shuts up.”

We can at last be hopeful that the successful appeal by Cllr. Henderson last week marks a tidal change that will see the truth about these poisonous individuals who serve only themselves revealed. Once their true nature is fully revealed, their value will be understood and they will be dismissed at the next election.

  3. Socialist? Misguided.10 October 2021 at 16:19

It was misguided, pretentious, and ludicrous of Emma Dent Coad to proclaim that she is a descendant of Catherine de Medici. Any self respecting socialist would not have mentioned this (even if it is true) but she does like to show that she is better than most. Her "consciousness" has been formed in praxis and, therefore, she does not want to miss out on the advantages that an aristocratic heritage affords. In Engelian terms, Emma is a victim of false consciousness.

  4. Emma is Emma. What you see is what you get. It is up to the Labour Party to choose who they want to fight the next election. Its not about Emma, its about winning. They need to decide who can win. Every day that passes seems to suggest Cllr Henderson as the best Parliamentary Candidate for Labour in the Kensington Borough. But this is just the opinion of an "observer".

    1. Observer,

Your opinion is as valid as anyone else's. I think that thanks to the Dame, the Labour Party will now realise that Emma is an electoral liability and has had her day. Labour needs a candidate of integrity and high ability to fight the next election.

  5. Does anyone know why Sam Gymiah was not prosecuted?

Ms Dent Coad reported him to the police for allegedly lying about her. She was in high dudgeon about it.

Will Ms Dent Coad come on here and tell us why he was not done for allegedly maligning her? Was it an error of judgement reporting him to the police?

    1. Emma had the benefit of an opinion on Gymiah's criminal liability from a top barrister: a Queen's Counsel, no less, practising from a top set of chambers in Bedford Square. It would be surprising if the Crown Prosecution Service's lawyers disagreed with the Labour supporting QC who advised Emma and, to some extent fuelled her indignation at the electoral disadvantage that she feared.

Was Gymiah allowed to get away with a crime or is there something to which we are not privy- a chink in Emma's armour?

    2. She'll probably go to her QC about the people who are writing this?

    3. Emma blamed Sam Gymiah for costing her the 2019 General Election. She also blamed the people who called her "Marxist" instead she insisted that she is a "cuddly" socialist. It is sad that Emma, a highly intelligent woman, does not accept personal responsibility for her defeat. Socialists are known for not factoring personal responsibility in to their analysis. if she wants to stand again in Kensington, she needs to deal with her shortcomings as a politician and a human being. I think Emma would find introspection very difficult but it is worth a try.

Emma's bad behaviour could just have easily dented her tiny 20 seat majority:-

      (i) Her racism towards a Black political opponent. Black voters remember that sort of thing when they vote. 20 votes go down the tubes very quickly.

(ii) Liking an antisemitic facebook feed. As a Jew, I remembered that when I voted. My parents always voted Labour and I decided to change in 2019 because of it.

(iii) For disregarding a Grenfell Survivor who complained to her about her misguided support for the LFB. The woman had lost her husband for god sake. Emma should have conceded the point and done as the woman asked. The Grenfell Inquiry has unfortunately shown that the woman concerned was right.

    4. On the subject of Marxism, the Labour Group Momentum declared its aim as to transform the Labour Party philosophically meaning towards becoming more Marxist. Emma said she was not in Momentum but she was welcomed at their meetings with a Marxist bent.

  7. Dear Dame,

Do you have any contacts in the Kensington Labour Party who might fill your ears or provide the "SP" as to why sam Gymiah was not hauled up in Court for telling lies about Emma Dent Coad? Surely, someone would be willing to spill to a trusted and respected lady.

  8. Ian Henderson and Judith Blakeman must know why Sam Gymiah was not prosecuted for telling lies about Emma Dent Coad. Why are they keeping Mum?

  11. Dent Coad is likely in for a tough selection to be the Labour candidate at the next general election.

The first issue is boundary changes. If the new "Kensington and Westbourne" constituency is in place, it's safe as houses for Labour with a majority of over 9,000. https://www.electoralcalculus.co.uk/fcgi-bin/calcwork23.py?seat=Kensington%20and%20Westbourne The seat of the current MP for Westminster North, Karen Buck, is split under the proposals and if she goes for the Kensington & Westbourne selection then she will mop the floor with Emma (remember that Buck represented North Kensington from 1997 to 2010 on previous boundaries).

If the current boundaries are used for the selection the seat will still attract a lot of interest from wannabe Labour MPs as the Tory majority is a mere 150 votes and the general trend in London is to Labour.

Previously Dent Coad would have hoped that Labour would select using an All Women Shortlist, which would make things easier for her. Unlucky for her, Labour can't legally use All Women Shortlists to select for the next general election as it's not permitted under the Equality Act when the majority of a party's current MPs are women. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10035447/Labour-forced-scrap-women-shortlists-half-MPs-female.html

Ian Henderson or anyone else who wants the selection should connect with one or more of the various Labour councillors who despise Dent Coad, "know where the bodies are buried" and can guide a candidate through the selection process the viper's nest that is Kensington Labour Party. It will be important for the anti-Emma crowd not to split the vote, but if they get their act together she is very beatable for the Labour candidacy.

    1. Emma Dent Coad has blotted copybook beyond redemption. There is better talent out there waiting to be selected.

    2. EDC has had her chance in parliament. We saw some very ugly behaviour from her. She has no idea of sisterhood and insults a woman premier purely on account of her looks. EDc lets herself down and is not for Kensington.

    3. Very good point 14.50. I remember my going to my first Student Union meeting thirty years ago. A Public School Tory told a left wing woman to watch it because people would think she had "mad cows' disease." That's about Emma's level.

    4. WHen Corbyn was presented with Emma's blog about Bailey, he said, "I am going to have a word with Emma about her use of language." She operationalised the hurtful language of a virulent antisemite to call the Prime Minster's thoughts "ugly" when Corbyn had 'good thoughts and was lovely." What a nauseating crawler she is. Corbyn's thoughts about jews are ghastly.

    5. 12.11 above refers to Labour Councillors who "despise" Emma Dent Coad. "Despise" is a very strong word to use. I have herad that Emma does not get on with Judith Blakeman but please tell us which other Councillors don't like her. An MP needs to be likeable. If some Councillors "despise" her, the electorate needs to know.

    6. 12.11 here. If anything I was measured in my choice of the word "despise". In private circles many folks who know her use much more direct language. EDC was removed as leader by the Labour Group in 2015 after only one year--that speaks for itself. Some of the anti-Emma Councillors left the Council in 2018 but not all. I'm not going to name them here out of respect for them, but I would say have a look at wards other than Golborne and at Councillors who joined the Council in 2014 or before.

I will say one thing for her: Dent Coad has been quite effective at clearing out her opponents and putting in her cronies. I would expect that after the 2022 elections the process will be pretty much complete on the Council. She also has installed her cronies in the local Labour Party, but that isn't always enough to win a parliamentary selection. A well-organised, good candidate can beat her. That 150 majority that she lost by in 2019 can easily be accounted for by people who normally vote Labour but were personally alienated by her.

While we are at it, ANY other London Labour MP would have held Kensington in 2019. The Labour vote held up in London, and the Lib-Dems only made a hard run at the seat because Dent Coad was so extreme and disliked by so many. Kensington Labour would be mad to select her again.

    7. I think I am beginning to understand. So Emma Dent Coad really is "despised" and from what you say intensely disliked - detested. I don't like her. She treats people like pawns or chattels in her posturing and strategies. She aligned herself to some very unpleasant people in parliament. God love her. Does she feel cheated out of building up her parliamentary pension because she lost in 2019.

    8. I have had a look at those Councillors elected before 2014. I know that Pat Mason was elected before 2014 but he is in with Emma Dent Coad.

It looks like Robert Atkinson, Judith Blakeman, and Pat Healy all dislike Emma Dent Coad and oppose her.

    9. 11.44 Re your second paragraph19 October 2021 at 08:44

The level of discourse in the Kensington Labour Party has reached an all time low. A right cesspit of Dent Coad and her cronies making.

  12. Emma had a small parliamentary majority in 2017. It is unlikely that Sam Gymiah was the "sole" reason for her defeat. She made enough high profile fuss about what Gymiah said for everyone to know that she disputed it. Some may have believed Gymiah but that is unlikely when she considered his actions criminal and let everyone know it.

It should be cause for concern in Labour Circles that she lost against the backdrop of a very bad Tory Council being found so seriously wanting over Grenfell. One would have expected her to have done better but blaming Gymiah is very convenient for her. As she did so badly in 2019 (when she had all her electoral ducks lined up for a resounding victory) should cause the local party to conclude that someone more inclusive and popular candidate is Labour's best bet.

  13. Ruth, Who was the Tory Woman MP who stood up in Parliament just before the 2019 General Election saying that the alternative to Johnson was a "Marxist Antisemitic Prime Minister?" I know a number of people in Kensington who did not vote Labour because of its Marxist leader.

    1. Too true. Kensington isn't Marxist. Labour was on a hiding to nothing. There are a few Guardian readers in Holland Park and Campden Hill. The sort that knew Shirley Williams and left Labour and joined the SDP.

    3. Politics is tough when people don't want you. Kensington folk did not want eye watering levels of spending and borrowing which leads to inflation and higher interest rates. Immature to think that Labour lost because of Gymiah's comments when economics was the issue.

    6. O Dent Coad, thou fond deceiver18 October 2021 at 16:46

When Emma Dent Coad was first elected to parliament, she made much of her predecessor, Victoria Borwick, drawing her parliamentary salary whilst claiming her councillor's allowance at the same time. According to the high and mighty Emma Dent Coad, she would be a morally superior MP and would represent all voters solely financed from her MP's salary. Amongst much fanfare, she gave up drawing her councillor's allowance IMPLYING that she would never get paid twice for representing the voters of Golborne Ward to the Council when she was already being paid a lavish salary to represent them at Westminster.

Emma Medici, that great deceiver, must have realised that her parliamentary salary would be short lived so she resorted to claiming her councillor's allowance, on the sly, (with no public declaration) about twelve months before she was voted out of parliament. She wanted to coin in the money every bit as much as her Tory counterparts. Pure socialist hypocrisy.

I am sure that our good lady, the Dame, is annoyed that this highly principled, misguided, socialist conned us all.
