It seems as if Mr Martin of Martins' Properties has taken over the licence of the Ivy in Kings Road.
Could we see Mr Martin as 'mine host'?
Are rumours true that a CVA has been organised by the owner, Sir Phil Green's friend, Mr Caring?
Mr Martin's family started off with a Kings Road electrical shop selling Dansette record players in the 40's before buying local property at rock bottom prices.
In fact, many of the Dame's friends remembered Tom Martin's father, Peter flogging them their first black & white telly.
OK, not quite the stuff of the Cadogan Estate but even the Cadogan family had to start somewhere!
I could tell you some stories about the Martin clan
ReplyDeleteThe old boy, Peter, had engaging way with people who couldn't pay their rent, "F*****g pay my rent, yer ****t Horrible oiece of work and hated throughout Chelsea. The only connection with the Cadogan family is that they own property in the same 'hood. The hood bit really applies to PM!
ReplyDeleteGawd help Richard Caring..
ReplyDeleteI have this picture of Earl Cadogan flogging a Telly!
ReplyDeleteWhen the horrible Peter Martin died a tenant went into the office and asked if he could speak to Martin. He was told Mr Martin was dead. The next day, the same man went into the office and asked the same question and was told again that he had died. The following day he went to the office and asked again to speak to Martin. This time the secretary said, "I told you that he was dead: why do you keep asking to which the man replied, " I just wanted to have the pleasure of hearing it".
ReplyDeleteWhat I find shocking is this. When the synagogue off Fulham Road was being restored the Martin family, being Jewish, was asked to contribute and Peter Martin refused absolutely.
