This is Osama Al Haddad, the owner of the Marks and Spencer site in King's Road. He lives between Jeddah and Dubai.
It is doubtful he even knows where Kings Road is. What he does know is that he can make hundreds of millions by knocking down the much-loved store and replacing it with hundreds of bolt-holes for global ill-gotten gains. This monolithic monster will peer out over the surrounding area in an aggressive and out-of-context way.
We live in times when to quote the indolent councillor, Mary Weale, "we hear but we don't listen"
Years ago, Lordly Moylan put forward a plan to turn Sloane Square into a crossroads. The Council only screeched to a halt when Doctor James Thompson said he would stand for the Council!
This is one of these moments when all of us need to get behind Jennifer Grossman. Please support Jennifer and her team and go to SAVE KING'S ROAD
Jennifer is a well-known community activist.
She cannot stop the Halj Group with its billions on her own.
We ALL need to help in any way we can.
This could be by donating money or helping to campaign but, as importantly, we need to OBJECT NOW
Great work From The Hornets Nest & Jennifer Grossman. Scandalous that this should even be contemplated for an iconic retail landmark
ReplyDeleteIts not iconic . Its a shop currently occupied by a fading retail chain . As long as we retain Peter Jones & Waitrose on Kings Road why should l care about Marks & Spenser ? Or am l missing something ?
DeleteYou are either missing the point or a Saudi hireling. The subject under discussion is not just the loss of a favoured local store(the prospect of a mini M&S is not what we want) The real argument is not about whether the store is 'iconic' but about the absolute intrusion the vast redevelopment means for a residential area. You know this, of course.
DeleteThanks Dame for the heads up. And thank you Jennifer Grossman for fronting this up and being prepared to take on miserable dizzy Campbell and her brain dead planning department. All strength to your elbow
DeleteMore unpleasant development in the Royal Borough so that hit and run developers can make super profits. We need to object with a loud voice because the proposal pays no attention to Civil Society and the living patterns of the immediate area - the things that are really important to rate payers
