The very long arcade that runs from 65/7 Portobello Rd through a very long back garden to 76 Kensington Park Rd is currently the subject of a planning application to convert it into a very large restaurant.
You can see the application here and also object...it is not too late despite the deadline APPLICATION
This will run along the back gardens of 7 buildings and the noise etc will affect the lives of numerous families.
For the wider community, the loss of yet another antique arcade will seriously degrade what is an antique trades destination
Please use the link to make any objections to this application before the deadline of 10 March. And also here are the email addresses of the local Colville councillors, the lead member for Planning and the Director of Planning at RBKC, plus that of Felicity Buchan the MP

Good luck with getting a response from the Colville councillors
ReplyDeleteWhy ruin Portobello even further?
ReplyDeleteAnother money-making venture that doesn't care about the local people it will devastate, or the character of the locality and its quaintness which it will spoil. Stop it now.
ReplyDeleteIt will destroy the essence of the market and no character will be left. I love going to portobello because of the antique market and the food stalls. And when I do have a drink or a meal it is because I am in the market not sorrounde by one restaurant after another. This is an old market an old city we must preserve its uniqueness not try to turn London into some sort of Dubai!
ReplyDeletePlease help to retain the charm of portobello market and stop this redevelopment …. There are enough restaurants in the area already
ReplyDeleteNooooo! This is a terrible idea
ReplyDeleteI have been coming to Portobella for 55 years, it does not need another restaurant. Please ask yourself "How many eatery's are there in Portobella? Answer lots and lots and every selection you can imagine. How many Antiques shops left? Not many and we need to keep this one.... I object to converting this to a Restaurant, its not necessary or needed. Why dont you redevelop Buckingham Palace Plot? You could make a massive Shopping Arcade with lots of restaurants, huh? Oh and rake in the fast cash.
