SMALL SUPPORT FOR SMALL BUSINESS.

Dear Dame,

Small businesses are being smashed against the rocks of massive Council Business Tax. Next year they will soar again forcing many shops etc to go to the wall. (I call it Business Tax because that is just what it is)

A considerable chunk of Business Tax goes straight back to the Council to be wasted on idiotic 'support schemes'

Felicity Buchan pretends to have an interest in supporting our local businesses: her wishy-washy way of doing so is to tell us to shop locally!

What she needs to do is explain why after years in power Tory governments have done nothing to radically overhaul a punitive system of taxing entrepreneurs.

Even worse, she accepts a further upward hike in Business Tax next year when we are in the midst of a massive recession....

Labour says it will say will overhaul Business Tax and make them fairer: it would seem that Labour might be the right partner for small businesses- not the Tories. They seem only interested in Big Business or supporting Baroness Mone and her multi-million pound self enrichment schemes.

Buchan used to work for a massive US investment bank so one can guess where her loyalties lie and it's not with us small business folk.

Buchan talks the talk but never walks the walk.

Regards,

A struggling shopkeeper.

  1. Can we hear what the Labour candidate has to say, Dame?

    1. Powell will be far more detailed and articulate compared to hypocrites who are currently Labour cllrs. I’m sure borderline Tories will consider who is better for them locally.

    2. RBKC Labour Councillors are not up to much. When Robert and Judith were on the Council things were better.

  2. The Dame is on her hobby horse again. More punitive taxation in the Royal Borough. Until the useless Cllr Campbell is removed from the Leaders office and replaced by a Councillor who understands the two words PRODUCTIVITY and EFFICIENCY, hard earned tax payers will continue to be fleeced to support profligate pet projects and funding the inefficient and bloated bureaucracy in Hornton Street.

Observer may, or may not be, correct. An easy way to establish the facts is to apply the simple discipline of zero based budgeting. Readers may wish to explore the internet and find out what this is about

    2. Rents in Kensington are sky high. Business Rates are levied on 40% of the rent payable. It's an outrage that the Conservative which dishonestly claims it's the party of small business allows this raping of retailers. Come on Buchan...what are you doing about it? Fuck all....apart from wondering around suffering shops. How did this woman ever become our MP. Come on Joe Powell...demolish her. All she cares about is promoting herself.

    3. Joe will first deal with the Trots then the Tories. Mainstream sensible people can soon rejoice.

  3. Can't see a role for BP Buchan. It is local politics. Dizzy will hose her down and wash her off her Sloane Square lawn. A very small lawn.

  4. Why did this council end up having such incompetent leaders! The Dame must continue their good work.

Labour to scrap business rates and replace with fairer system

Shadow Chancellor Rachel Reeves today announces Labour will cut – and eventually entirely scrap – business rates, replacing them with a new system of business taxation fit for the 21st century.

    Labour
The announcement follows news yesterday that Labour would set up an Office for Value for Money to tackle government waste and introduce a new set of fiscal rules to get a handle on public finances, as part of their mission to tax fairly, spend wisely and get the economy firing on all cylinders.
