The Dame was recently at that pinnacle of global excellence, The Royal Marsden.
Talking to one of the brilliant young nurses she heard a heartbreaking story-one clearly unexceptional.
This highly skilled cancer nurse had to travel from her home in Finchley to Marsden Sutton on a daily basis.
How can anyone doing such physically and emotionally draining work manage a gruelling daily journey like this?
When Cllr Ian Henderson beat off Affinity Sutton he knew that Sutton Estate was perfect for accommodating key and critical medical staff.
Yet, he had to fight tooth and nail to maintain it as accommodation for those like the Dame's nurse friend.
We really need to focus on the important things....
We taxpayers need to have referendums on major'wastes' like Opera Holland Park and Exhibition Rd. ER cost £24 million and OHP around £10m over the years. That money could have been deployed to house our nurses properly
ReplyDeleteAnd going back even further - every hospital had a nurse's hostel on site or nearby. All sold off and converted into luxury buy to let - whose brilliant idea was that?
ReplyDeleteI thought The Marsden had staff accommodation around the Fulham Road. What happened to that?

DeleteWhat?! That's terrible!
DeleteFoulis Street; bad timing for NHS to get Savills to sell their roperty off Fulham road with 3x hospitals on Fulham road Nurses and doctors could have used these digs.
DeleteNeither councillors, council or MPs did nothing.

Luxury property has taken a slow and now steep dive since 2014. Property outside cities are becoming of more interest to buyers.

Delete'London hospital to sell 11 Chelsea townhouses for £30m' they are worth more than that!

The deal smells fishy.
DeleteYou must realise though...long distance commuting is their goal and to become norm in the near future. So that keyworkers and those on lower wage group are gradually sent off to future ghetto places like Birmingham and Peterborough as a part of gentrification. That's why they are in a hurry to create the high speed railways.
ReplyDeleteI think Police do this as well.
