EX CHIEF CONSTABLE SLAMS DIMWITTED DERBYSHIRE POLICE

Mike Barton, ex-Chief Constable of Durham Police has slammed Derbyshire Police for fining two ladies £200 for having a socially distanced walk around a deserted reservoir.

Their rationale? It was a picnic because the ladies were carrying takeaway cups of coffee!

It's understood you don't need to be a genius to be a policeperson but don't they understand this idiotic behaviour alienates law-abiding members of the public?  A police force incapable of responding to crime yet with the capacity to harass an innocent couple.

A picture of innocence? Not according to dimwit policemen.

Even Daily Telegraph readers are expressing contempt for the immature way the police are behaving.

Here's a really frightening example of how we are slipping into police statehood

  1. Watch out, here is Knightsbridge the police asked me where I was going ("to the supermarket" was my answer) when I was walking alone. Further along Brompton Road, by the McDonald's, there was a group of five people. They did not even approach them. Ludicrous. Shame on Boris Johnson and shame on Cressida Dick.

  2. The police really seem to be in their element. Harassing the innocent yet oblivious to blatant examples of Class A drug dealing in Knightsbridge.
The Dame has reported on the patronising hectoring of DAC Twist. The end result will be that public trust and respect for the police will decline to such an extent that they will lose cooperation. They need to get out of their comfortable £50k plus cars and hit the streets.

    1. They are exercising power. Give people of average intelligence with a chip on their shoulder any power at all and they go haywire. Bobbies and customs officers come to mind.

  3. There are potential Auschwitz guards all around us - there is no mystery how ordinary Germans could have done such things.

I just listened to one of the girls on LBC. Sounded like a delightful and charming teenager. She and her friend drove up to a quiet moor for some exercise and arrived to find the place deserted except for two police cars and seven policemen and women. With nothing better to do, five policemen descended on the two girls to tell them that they were breaking the law and issued £200 fines.

Is this an optimum use of scarce police resource?
