ROTTEN STANDARDS

Totally corroded with rust
This sight should stimulate our CEO, Barry Quirk, into asking some hard-hitting questions. Relatively new, these lamp standards cost taxpayers a small fortune and there must be hundreds around the Royal Borough.
This lamp in Knightsbridge has its base totally corroded with rust. It could have killed or seriously injured a passer-by when it fell.  This now means each and every lamp needs to be examined. Who will pay for this exercise? The poor bloody taxpayer, of course!
Who commissioned this tat?

  1. The Council know that these standards have defective bases and are quietly replacing. What a waste of money

  2. Sounds like another Grenfell decision process. Save some money on dodgy cladding and ignore the downsides. Save some money on dodgy insurance and ignore the downside. Save some money on dodgy lamp posts and wait for them to fall over and kill some pedestrians.........

Dizzy needs to sort out her Council and spend less time with her Sloane Square lunch party set.

But the priorities of Hornton Street continue. £1.7 million spent last year on a new foundation and flower beds for the Holland Park Opera tent and another £1.3 million spent this year for the new Holland Park adventure playground for the rich kids. All of it approved by "consultations".

Welcome to the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. The Council that "agreed to listen but not to hear" according to Cabinet Member Weale

Only the best quality materials used for the Opera site and paid for by Council Tax, stainless steel supports for the tent, expensive topiary hedges for decoration of the site, and picnic lawns replaced by top end flower beds.

RBKC priorities are on parade for inspection by residents and ratepayers. It is an out of date and deluded Council

  3. Ah - that explains why a lamp post in Cambridge Gardens has been replaced.

Bring back ex Deputy Leader Moylan. He may have upset colleagues but he did insist on robust stainless steel lamp posts and dustbins in public places like Exhibition Road. There will be no fatalities there from rusty lamp posts falling over.

Would the stainless steel lampposts be strong enough to hang Moylan from?

    3. NO. Moylan can only be hung from a very robust contraption...

    4. Moylan's stainless lamp posts will still be standing after the last of dizzy's rusty poles have toppled over and killed a few people. The first fatality will bankrupt the Borough after a successful negligence claim in Court. Thanks to the Dame, the scandal in waiting is now a matter of public record.

Will dizzy become another Rock Fielding-Mellen in hiding?

  4. This is NOTHING new. Not very far from our sette, a few years ago about ten lamp posts were replaced for the very same reason - rotten bases. When asked what will happen to the old posts, the workers quite proudly told us that they will "flog them as scrap and a have a jolly good piss-up". So, dear residents, that's where your money goes - pissed down the drain...
As for the Holland Park "Opera", we know of this third-rate "operatic" venue, as during the season we can hear the ghastly din from the arena. Enjoyed by the sycophantic Council boen-nosers, who could not tell Verdi from Mozart... sad, but true- just a sign of money pissed against the wall to satisfy the pretentious few.

    1. There is a deep compulsion in Hornton Street to spend Council Tax on Holland Park Opera. It is more than six years since opera Champion, disgraced ex Leader Cockell, was booted out. But the spending continues. The Hornton Street machine seems to think that residents will not notice. Well, we do........

    1. A Council of Masons doing the bidding of Masons

  6. The Masons only play a minor role in this scandal. The driver is socially ambitious Councillors who like the idea of "our Glyndebourne in the Park". These Councillors are egged on by a small group of wealthy residents who like the idea of subsidised opera within easy walking distance of their mansions. The handshake is powerful because the socially inferior Councillors LOVE being asked by their superiors for a favour. Upstarts like Cockell and dizzy are particularly susceptible to this form of social exploitation.

It is all a very understandable British construct

If opera Director Volpe knew his oats he would approach locals Harry and Meg to become Presidents of Holland Park Opera. With this kind of patronage the flood gates at Hornton street would become permanently open with a flood of endless Council Tax money. The Councillors cannot resist a nod and wink from Royalty.

Michael would of course have to learn a more subtle approach than he is used to. "Hi, I'm Michael. Fly me" will not work at Kensington Palace. He would need to adopt a third party approach and probe gently.

    1. Our MP, Emma Dent-Coad, would not allow this to happen

    2. Investec who sponsor the Holland Park Opera are S African spivs - well known in the City for sailing close to the wind. Palace Officials would not allow the Duke of Sussex to be on the same ticket. There are some standards left in Kensington.

No need to rely on the MP for safety

  8. I went last week (sorry but I have been going for the last 20? years, it's a bit of a ritual, I don't really know why I do it, to be honest I don't really enjoy it). What is evident to me over that time is the deterioration in the standard of dress. Then it was very formal - I won't say evening dress but definitely dark suits and cocktail dresses. Last week it was a slovenly rabble by comparison, no effort at all - T shirts and trainers in preponderance. One woman got it wrong and turned up in full Ascot mode complete with a little 'fascinator' at a jaunty angle on her head - she stood out like a sore thumb!!

  9. What does all of this nonsense have to do with rusty lampposts?

    1. Dear simple person at 15.30. When the Council spends £1.7 million for facilities to tart up Opera Holland Park it means that there is £1.7 million less that is available for helping the elderly or buying lamp posts. So the Council is forced to buy sub standard lamp posts which rust and then fall over.

Everyone needs lamp posts. Very few rich people like the opera. Where do you think Council Tax should be spent?

      Answer please.......
