NICK LISTENS TO THE DAME!

Nick Paget-Brown made a commitment he would not just hear residents but LISTEN too...take note Cllr Weale!
Next year Ukip will launch a massive attack on the Royal Borough....as Farage has said, "We will win more than just a handful of  seats"
The Dame has even heard he plans to use the Town Hall for a major autumn meeting...not good news.

LISTENING
So Nick has made a good start by taking note of the Dame's constant urging to slash the hugely generous Special Responsibility Allowances.
There are certain anomalies but it's a step in the right direction.
The Dame has to ask though what the hell we are doing paying a councillor £17, 500 a year to 'engage' with residents....she has never heard such nonsense.
It should be the responsibility of every councillor to engage with 'their' residents...not just the honourable few like Cllrs Mills,
Gardener, Borwick, Dent Coad, Freeman and Coleridge(apologies to those the silly old Dame has left out-you know who you are). And to those who are lazy and insolent to residents, like the awful Coates and Warrick...pull your socks up or next May will see you seatless.

A START

  2. If this is a sign of things to come then it is great start. Fantastic to see that the ridiculous position of "Cabinet Member for Civil Society" (with its equally silly job description of "keeping everyone on their toes") has been abolished. This was the silly invention of squatter Cllr Sir Pooter Merrick Cockell who needed to invent a position for Rocky Mellen with whom he was totally infatuated

    1. He is still infatuated. But our boy is now in new pastures and has dropped his sponsor already

    2. Nick we know that you want to "engage" but an engagement member in the Cabinet is an own goal. He/she gets paid half as much as the others so is the role half as important? IT WILL BE A GLORIFIED GOFOR JOB - a waste of money and endeavor. For heavens sake own up to this shot in the foot and can it. Every Cabinet Member and Councillor needs it rammed down their throat that their primary responsibility is to link up with residents and understand the pulse of the Borough. In your acceptance speech in the Council Chamber tonight you highlighted just how diverse the Borough is and how rapidly the demographic is changing. Its a big job for you guys to get in touch - so get on with it and don't pass the buck

  3. Maybe a good start but will the new Leader continue to describe himself as "Prime Minister" and will he also refer to the Cabinat Member for Finance as "Chancellor"? These little things are great giveaways....

  4. Add in the Council allowance of £11k and we see that Cabinet Members are on £45k and the Leader on £65k. This is big money compared to the national average wage. A distinct lack of the public service ethic.

  5. Cabinet members who do not perform should be booted out. Paget-Brown played the numbers game to get himself elected and there are three people in the Cabinet (including Cllr Mellen and Warwick) who have no business to be there in terms of quality.

  6. NPB made a telling comment in his acceptance speech of the "need to re-engage with residents", which means he recognises that the Council has lost the plot with those whom it purports to represent. Warrick in not in the Cabinet, he is Chairman of Planning. NPB will have to consolidate hs position before he can address the problem of the useless Mellen and E. Campbell.

  7. Paget-Brown's maiden speech as Leader was far better than any made by his predecessor in 13 years.
