The only solution the Dame can provide is that the dear reader is colour blind...Dezzie was wearing a fawn-not blue gown: after all, most of his time is spent fawning to Pooter.
MAN IN TOWN HALL GALLERY |
Answers please...or maybe Cllr Dezzie can explain?
Dear Dame
I know you are very knowledgeable about protocol at the Council, so would like to ask you to clarify a particular situation at this evening's meeting that I witnessed from the Gallery. There are two matters I do not understand:
1, why was Cllr O'Neill sitting behind the Labour Group and wearing a blue gown, while the Labour Councillors do not ever wear them?
2, what does 'withdrawing the Whip' mean?
3, why was no one in the Council meeting commenting on this bizarre situation, if indeed the 'whip' has been withdrawn (sounds painful)? What is this 'whip'?
Yours confused

ReplyDeleteYour correspondent is WRONG. Labour councillors always wear gowns at the Remembrance Day service.
ReplyDeleteAre we not discussing Mayor making here....not Remembrance Day services?
DeleteIf so, the correspondent is correct
The correspondent said Labour NEVER wear gowns - that is incorrect - but maybe a bit nitpicking!
DeleteThe 'whip' was a 'ceremonial gift' of ex Cllr Lamont....he was interested in whipping
ReplyDeleteOne deviant at a time please!
DeleteWe could be here for a while then!
DeleteSo, why was Dodgy Dez sitting behind the Labour Cllrs and wearing a gown?
ReplyDeleteNobody liked to ask, but someone must know!
He lost his way?
DeleteBut then many have believed that for some time ...
Laziness on its own is never a reason for withdrawing the Whip. So it must have been something more serious than that. So the Lib Dems need to be wary of welcoming him as one of their own.
ReplyDeleteThe other parties would both be best advised to steer well clear. Too much smoke for there to be no fire.
DeleteCome on, someone out there must know. What did Dezzie do? It has to be really bad, not just omission of basic duties, as 08.18 says.
DeleteDez meet naughty step?
ReplyDeleteOr should that be useless step?
No doubt the reasons as to Cllr. O'Neil's apparent fall from grace will eventually become known. It will be interesting to compare and contrast what leads to the loss of the Labour whip in comparison to the abhorrent behaviour apparently required to for anyone to lose the Conservative whip (and then delayed by a year).
ReplyDeleteWith Tories it is generally sexual peccadilloes, with Lib Dems the imminence of a prison sentence and with Labour usually some form of financial scandal.
ReplyDeleteSo we can expect to hear of O'Neill's less than squeaky clean finances shortly?
DeleteHis declaration of interests does make interesting reading. Plenty of scope for impropriety there ...
If Tories resigned for mere "sexual peccadilloes" half the borough would be having by-elections.
ReplyDeleteTwo Tories have resigned since 2010 because what they did was either blatantly illegal (resulting in a conviction)and/or very close to it. They were disgusting and immoral in any case.
As for the LibDems: how many have we actually had? Cllr. Kingsley (who defected from the Tories to the LibDems half way through her term) didn't bother standing in 2006. And the current lot are still there (ineffective Tory-lite but still there).
Something is up!
ReplyDeleteSomething is certainly up. O'Neil's failings are far more serious than mere laziness.
ReplyDeleteCan anyone recall O'Neill's lambasting in the press a couple of years ago? Was it in the local paper or the Standard?

ReplyDeleteA lovely tale for sure - £750k in property in east London whilst renting a housing association property for £270 a month. And I wonder how much he made out of the Olympics?
