Prettier Picture

Tha Dame could not resist putting up this blog from one of her rivals. She just thought that Cllr Moylan looked so engaging....
No wonder he cleared off from RBKC...much better pickings here!
The only nonsense here is the claim that it will put Moylan on a collision course with those fearless fighters against double jobbing and ludicrous allowances, Pickles and Shapps: we know those two will huff and puff and do nothing.
Boris Johnson has doubled the wage of a key ally to make him the highest paid councillor in the country. Daniel Moylan’s taxpayer-funded salary has jumped £55,000 to £131,597 after Boris approved a gigantic increase in his pay packet as London’s three-day-weekend deputy transport chief.
Moylan’s pay bump sees him beat the previous record held by another of Boris Johnson’s cronies, Steve O’Connell, according to a leaked letter seen by the Sunday Mirror. While former banker O’Connell defended his £118,511 by claiming “I’m worth it”, his package is trumped by Moylan’s three jobs:
  • £115,000 for four days a week at TfL (doubled from £60,000)
  • £10,597 as a councillor in Kensington and Chelsea
  • £6,000 as member of London Waste and Recycling Board

  1. The problem with Hornet is that it cannot seperate personal hatred from differences in policy.

I agree Moylan has managed to piss off a great number of people - BUT he is a man of intellegence and Boris has employed him for that
reason. Yes he has also been picked because he is a member of the Conservative Party - But who else can Boris trust to do this important job?

I am sure Boris spent a great deal of time looking for suitable candidates but it is interesting to note that it was Livingstone who first suggested Moylan as a political scare story. I use this to demonstrate that even Moylans enemies agree he has talents.

Seperating the role of person from the job, you then have to ask how much is the job worth? I do not know but I would recommend a long term bonus scheme whereby anything that they do now is checked for success 1,2,3 years later and if it has proved to be a right decision they get paid well - otherwise they get ziltch

Finally you (in the comments section of another article http://fromthehornetsnest.blogspot.com/2011/06/danny-boy-moylans-credit-card.html then attack people because they come from humble backgrounds. How absolutly appauling. You should apoligise for making such snide and condescending remarks.

  2. Who reads the Daily Mirror? Just more proof this web site is run by a few Labour Councillors

  3. yeah...Labour cllrs are going to write a blog full of praise for Tim Ahern and suggest he runs for Leader?
You have got to be one of Cockell's simpletons.
Intelligent political analysts read every newspaper-unless they are rank and dumb amateurs like you!

Would you care to give an example or two of Moylan's 'intelligence'.
What are the policies he has devised and driven which have bought such benefit to the Borough.
A good leader inspires staff. Moylan succeeds in bullying and crushing those who work for him. That is not a recipe for success in politics or business. That is why he has never succeeded in politics. But, still it would be good to have your views on the great things he has achieved through his 'intelligence!

  5. "Would you care to give an example or two of Moylan's 'intelligence'."

He was educated at the University of Oxford, where he read German and philosophy.

Most people who get in are clever and hard working (especially if they did not come through the public school route) He then graduates, which supports the reason he was let in.

  6. Hornet doesn't hate Moylan, never has done. The problem with you, Anon 05:18 is that you cannot accept criticism.

It is not a policy decision to bully staff, or as you eloquently put it "pi$$ off a great number of people", the operative word there being "great".

Just because someone has a modicum of intelligence, vision, foresight call it what you will, does not mean they by virtue of that makes them an all rounded enlightened person.

The great leaders we have had, and we have seen a fair few, all have one quality that shines through and that is respect.

They may be forthright in their own views, they may be resolute in what they want to achieve. But they respect the views of others and constructively argue the case for and against. They may well have their way in the end, but they do it by bringing together the people who originally opposed them. Through respect and reasoned argument.

Moylan simply sets off on a course of destruction all those who oppose and there's the difference. Nothing whatsoever to do with hatred or policy.

As for humble beginnings, its true Hornet pokes a little on that but thats more a case of bringing the man himself back to earth when he has his head in the clouds.

Come on you really cannot be that naive. You really think that the fact he went to Oxford and read German and philosophy qualifies him to be running the transport policy of a a world leading City.
And why evade the question-which I will restate. What exactly has he achieved in RBKC? Ken High St is a desert; Exhibition Rd is a momentous folly and we won't even go to his ludicrous and unwanted plan for Sloane Square.
So far you are not proving a great propagandist for your old friend....
    Must try harder....

  8. What exactly has he achieved in RBKC?

Well I never said he had, I said he was a man of intelligence.

I doubt that many councillors can personally point to many things that they have achieved without the support of a policy / officer or the ruling party.

However I do like the art he had installing in Holland park some years ago, at the time it was critised but time has proven he was right.

I also think that being given a Honorary Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects, is an achievment and I understand that that is for work he did in the Royal borough

    Total BO**OC*S

Here are two Blair and Thatcher

Blair might show "respect" for others but he was not a great leader. Thatcher is well known for not respecting people with diffrent views to hers and was a great leader.

  10. "However I do like the art he had installing in Holland park"

So Boris is paying Daniel M £144k a year pro rata for sticking up some art in Holland Park. Sounds like he should have a lifetime achievement!
Hardly terribly original. There have been Moores scattered around Battersea Park for years.
You really need to work harder to convince us. I can find thousands of Double Firsts from Oxford. Would I necessarily employ them...no that is a very different matter

I think to compare Daniel Moylan leadership qualities with those of Thatcher or Blair is really stretching
    reality.
Having known Margaret Thatcher I can assure you she was extremely courteous to those who worked for her. She would never have have shouted and raged at staff-or patronised those less clever: all things Daniel Moylan is wont to to do.

  12. Enough of this poppycock. Not one of these creatures is deserving of the column inches afforded them on this thread. They are monsters one and all.

As for Thatcher, the only comment I would care to make is that she looked damn good on ‘Spitting Image’.

By the way, did anyone happen to see that great Liberal, Vince Cable, on the news today, threatening trade unionists with even tougher anti-union laws if they dare to strike against the Great Coalition and its death-by-a-thousand-cuts policy?

Let's have Vince on here. He should be good for a laugh or two.

  13. "I also think that being given a Honorary Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects, is an achievment and I understand that that is for work he did in the Royal borough"
First of all he was given his RIBA bauble because he became very matey
with one particular high profile architect for reasons we will not explore. So rather than rely upon your 'understanding' of what he did in the Royal Borough why not tell us exactly what he did do? At the moment you are just aimlessly parroting stuff and it makes no sense.

  14. As said at the beginning of this LONG conversation "The problem with Hornet is that it cannot seperate personal hatred from differences in policy."

Blair had respect but not a great leader.
3 general elections and a peak of 80% approval suggests otherwise. And thus is fact rather than H bring a Labour supporter (which she is not).

    Thatcher great but no respect?
I think not she was resolute and decisive but never disrespectful. She commanded a room but always in the end carried the room. She never intimidated or insulted bit demeaned anyone. Not only it wasn't necessary but it wasn't her style.

    Quite unlike DM.
And to compare him and his approach to that of Lady Thatcher is grossly inaccurate. A massiveboost for him but an insult to the Great Lady herself.

The Hornet knows them both and has worked with both.

Why, did you serve them a cup of tea?

  18. Fascinating that this subject has created such a stir. Question: How much does Boris earn? Comment: When he heard a complaint that part of the Royal Borough had been made into a conservation area, without public consultation; Cllr Moylan told a complete stranger: "We take no notice of the public anyway!" Cleverness is no excuse for such arrogance.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Lets be clear that Moylan is a bully and totally insensitive to the feelings of others.

There is no disputing that he has energy and drive. And gets things done.

It is debatable that he has democratic support for his initiatives. The opinion of many is that he uses the power of his position to pursue a personal agenda

It would shake you to know that the Dame is right in respect of L.Thatcher and pulling your silly leg
    on the other.
BTW did you post this because you are trying to brown nose your way in to Sir Cockle's favour? It might just work: it's the sort of boring comment he would identify with!

  21. Chaps, I very much doubt 'Simon Blanchflower' is the Simon we know. Most likely it's Driveller impersonating people - again.

He has so many different persona he might forget who he is one day.

Driveller, you know you've been told to keep out of trouble, do you never listen to advice? Sorry, silly question.
