Bevin....left of Churchill
One of the Dame's favourite Labour statesmen is Ernie Bevin. Bevin refused every title he was offered. When finally persuaded to become Lord Privy Seal he said: 'I am neither a Lord, nor a Privy, nor a Seal'
Bevin had no PPE. What he did have was deep, intuitive political and common sense blended with high intelligence. Even his lofty permanent secretary, Sir Alexander Cadogan thought highly of him.
Bevin was also a great patriot. The Dame thinks he would have had a little truck with Emma Dent Coad.
Sadly, they don't make the likes of Bevin any longer.
No idea why The Dame suddenly got all nostalgic for her hero. Angela Rayner came from the same working class background and was a union man but the Dame despises Rayner as a one trick pony. Not really fair
ReplyDeleteThere’s no mystery about it, Angela appeals to the burgeoning, ignorant, functionally illiterate, work-shy, mobile-phone-addicted underclass who whinge on about having no money but can afford to go on holiday to Magaluf, get tattoos, smoke/vape, get their kids the latest barber cuts, expensive trainers, electronics, mobile phones and puffa jackets and spend all their spare time hogging GP appointments (because they’re the only ones who have time on their hands to wait on the phone to get one) and tyrannising teachers at the local school their children attend. I have no time for this ghastly, dense woman and the class of perpetual victims who support her.
ReplyDeleteThe opinions of 18.11 were out of date in 1911. The 'superior' classes are not the only ones entitled to life's small luxuries. In 1911 there were music halls and weeks by the seaside for factory workers.
Delete18.11 and his(?) petty prejudices are the reason we now have a shiny, new, Socialist government. One can only wish them well in the massive task of healing the wounds inflicted on the nation by a bunch of public school yobs. In future, the Tories would be well advised to avoid Eton, Oxford and the Bullingdon Club.
18:11 is not referring to the genuine working class. He/she is referring to an underclass who take benefits and know how to game the system in such a way as not to have to work. There are more than a couple of million operating in this way....that is why they are a underclass. These people are traitors to hard working class folk who end up paying for their lifestyles.Stop introducing nonsense about Bullingdon et al. You will find Starmer will be coming after this underclass
DeleteBevin was a very different animal to Rayner. You insult this great man by even attempting a comparison.
ReplyDeleteStarmer has chosen the wrong Miliband. Bring back David.
ReplyDeleteFew politicians, except Corbyn, Abbott. Long Bailey et al, have any truck with Emma Dent Coad.
ReplyDeleteIan Mikado accused Bevan of antisemitism (and if memory serves me well, he levelled the same charge against Attlee.) EDC has had excursions in to antisemitism despite doing the Jewish Labour Movement's training course on antisemitism.
Why don't we all agree that, in this new political world, with both of the boroughs MPs now clever , courteous and moderate men , we all agree to inter Mrs Dent Coad as irrelevant and focus instead on our useless and beleaguered council ?
ReplyDeletePleased to see the back of Greggs Chelsea bunfoonary by 152 vote!
DeleteIt would be dangerous to treat EDC as "irrelevant" whilst she is still a Councillor. There is nothing she would like more than to have free reign with her Corbynite Marxist ideas.
DeleteOpposing her Trotskite plans is healthy in a democracy.
Of course Mrs Dent is far from being the most useless or aggrandising Councillor. But l would agree that she is the nastiest. I would be interested in alternative nominations for any of these titles
ReplyDeleteThe Queen of Nastiness and Bitchiness of the Highest Order is awarded to,
ReplyDeleteMs.Emma Dent Coad.
