DAILY MAIL SLAMS BASEMENT PLANS

What is it about Commonwealth media tycoons...especially the Canadian variety: they seem to think their money gives them carte blanche to ride roughshod over people.... and the Dame is not just talking about 'Lord Black as he is painted.'
The owner of The Old Court House having made his vast fortune burying cables underground in Canada now decides he wants to live underground too!
Even odder is the behaviour of the three Brompton Ward councillors. For all the use they are they too may as well be living underground: they are neither seen nor heard from.....

Come on you three....can we please have some support!

CRAZY PLANS!

  1. This guy is 75 years old. He will make the lives of thousands of people a misery for five years while his hole is dug out. He will be eighty by the time it is finished. Maybe 82 by the time the garden is fixed and the new house settled. How much longer can he expect to live and enjoy it? And of course there is a high chance that he will die during the "build". The project will then be held up for a decade by the lawyers and probate. What a nightmare

    1. It will take 18 months to get started. Graham will be 85 years old before it is finished. He could well be dead.

    2. These North American honchos have stamina and go on forever. He could live to be 100. And they don't give a stuff about other people.

    3. If Graham moves in when he is 85 years old and lives to be 100, that is 15 man years of enjoying his house. But the lives of 500 neighbours and business owners will be a misery for five years to make it happen. That is 2,500 man years of misery. The social balance is wrong and the Council needs to stop it

    4. Do as I say, not as we do ..minions strike back. Golly gee, such foretelling reminds me of Camping legends. You know them.. raptures, fire and brimstone, terminator 2.
With the coming decades, each morning's paper will revive us as we sip the juniper and shake our heads in retrospect, perfusing every word - 'we knew David, we knew'. But will the decades come, was Daniel really just a Great Disappointment, will the whole district be 'burned-over'? Oh sweet marriage of my brothers, sweet Anise, sweet forever, save me from the yersin-mongers, the isaacs, the YEC's and from the 21st of next month!

  2. Surely one of the duties of Local Government is to prevent antisocial behaviour? Riding bicycles on pavements, chewing gum on pavements, dogs fouling etc. Digging super basements is also anti social. It should be stopped

  3. The useless Cockell has all the press support that he needs to take political action and ban basements if he wants to. But of course he will not do so. Just in case he upsets some of the important people that he so wants to cosy up to

  4. Dame, the Brompton Councillors are out of their depth on this one. This is a big boys game. Bark still needs to learn how to tie his tie properly and Boy Marshall is till squirting around on his scooter. They cannot be taken seriously. This is one for Ahern and Cockell.

You know nothing and are clearly a damned fool! The Standard sublet an office from AN and totally distinct with absolutely no editorial interface or ownership. Even the Times and the Sunday Times, who operate from the same building, under the same owners, run separate editorial operations. If you ever post such crass comments again The Dame will consider barring you for idiocy.

    4. Will that include some of the Hornets silly crass remarks as well? Will you barring yourself from posting on your own web site?

    6. It has to be...stop acting like a silly school kid Palmer.

  6. I do think it's rather twee regardless of whether dear David will ever get to enjoy it's amenities. One seriously hopes he does. Shame the servants will be holed up in the basement, but at least David will be able to attract young cheap labour, no ties of course, as all the financially insecure are being shipped out to Liverpool et alia. Imagine do, the hungry clientele of the local bistros and the shifty shutterbugs waiting for the clapping cobblestones to sound the arrival of the Golden Belles to the ball, so de rigueur. Forbes, Fortune, AD, Grand Design, oh sweet forever, Mr Graham and Company have entered the building.

  7. I think that it is wonderful the way Palmer makes an idiot of himself almost daily in trying to insult his fellow residents on this blogsite. He is about to launch himself on a trail of trying to find a safe seat before he is booted out of his ward at the next election. Residents can see what they would be getting before it is too late.
