DON'T TAKE IT AS READ

The Constituency Asssociation has been mismanaged for years.
This is the moment for a clean sweep in every way.
The Dame hears that some naive members have been seduced by the rhetoric of failed ex councillor, Jonathon Read.
They need to think hard-and again.
In Earls Court, Read was cordially disliked.
The arrogance of his ways eventually led to him being turfed out.
Do we really want, as chaiman, a man so hopeless, he cannot even keep a council seat?
Hardly much recommendation for a man who boasts of his campaigning skills.....

There is really only one intelligent choice as chairman and that has to be Councillor Julie Mills.
Clever, personable and genuinely nice, Julie will be the sort of inspirational leader the constituency needs.

As usual, the Dame's 17th cent ormulu mounted telephone has been trilling away.
It's the Usual Suspects all trying to gain her ear and persuade her to back them.
The Dame's fabulous Faberge telephone

First off, young Feilding Mellen. Sadly, the Dame had to brush him off with a 'come back in several years time when you have learnt judgment and how NOT to alienate ordinary people'.
Then a very bombastic Danny Boys Moylan telling the Dame how clever he was.

The Dame had to remind him of how the past would so often came back to haunt one....
Pooter Cockell has still not called.
Were he to do so the Dame would be forced to remind him his expenses record and love of money would not auger well.

Clearly, the choice needs to be a 'quality' local political personality with a track record in 'local' local government.
Let's hope the right choice is made: it won't be too difficult.

  1. One step at a time, please, Dame. The first step is for the Association to wake up from a deep and comatose sleep. They have less than 24 hours to manage this .

    1. Headline News on the Association website is "Security and Dignity in Retirement".

The major event flagged for the future is the Pembridge Garden Party with Oliver Letwyn

      Says is all

  2. There is only one sensible choice of a local candidate for the Kensington seat and she has served the area and London well for many years.
Somebody please persuade her to stand.

  3. The Dame is ill informed about Conservative Party procedure. Cllr Mellen and Cllr Cockle are not on the Candidates List. They are dust. And Pooter's expenses record would not cut mustard in the current climate.

    1. The Tories prefer to work in the corridors and behind closed doors in smoke filled rooms. This behaviour is deeply entrenched in the Kensington, Chelsea and Fulham Association. It is the focus of attack of the J Read campaign to become Chairman of the Association and it would be a Fulham take over. Greg Hands is moving with stealth in the background.

Against this background the Presidents Drinks Party (£20 for tickets) after the Conservative Association AGM on Thursday will be a hive of activity.

  4. Read is thoroughly obnoxious. Do the Tories never learn?

However, excellent news regarding Cockle and Mellen.

Who is on the candidate list?

  5. Tricky situation. An attempted take over of the Kensington, Chelsea and Fulham Conservative Association by Fulham. At a time when the main business is to select a new MP for Kensington.

Carrington really allowed a mess to develop.

  6. Some dreary half-wit from the front bench I suppose, the rest are either new, equally venal as Riffers, or comatose.

And it can't be Q Marshall, he's in a spot of bother.

    3. Sad to say it is entirely possible that he owes HMRC about half a mill. That's a lot of dosh even for a well-heeled young man like him. Finding clever ways NOT to pay tax sometimes bites you on the bum.

  7. Sir Merrick Cockell would be the perfect person to replace Rifkind. They both have the same arrogance and disdain for the electorate and they both have enriched themselves through their government positions.

  8. Can I tip Victoria Borwick as the next MP? Who will the Dame be backing?

    1. The only sensible choice. However , this being Kensington we'll probably have some over the hill member of the party looking for a safe seat and to build up his consultancies.

    2. Victoria would be an excellent choice.

  9. Dear Dame the Jonathon 'Dream Team' is thoroughly toxic. All four of them stood in the council elections and all four of them failed to get elected. Jonathon has not even bothered to join a ward committee

  10. It has got to be Read - the perfect chump for our next MP.

  11. All of these comments are becoming rather silly. Kensington has a very short time to make a very important decision. Thank heavens that we will have a safe pair of hands (Cllr Mills) at the wheel. The tried and tested way is for the Conservative Association to draw up a short list followed by an open selection. The manner of Sir Malcolm's departure has brought a few home truths into clear focus. First, the fashion in recent years for K&C to select celebrity candidates who go down well at Ward Garden Parties. (Scott. Clarke, Portillo, Rifkind). They did little or nothing for residents. Second, the reakisation that it is MPs like Sir Brandon Rhys Williams who were good for Kensington. Tramping up and down our streets, holding surgeries and caring for residents. By chance, we have a person like this in our midst. Cllr Victoria Borwick has been a dedicated local politician for years who knows her way around, is adored by her Abingdon Ward residents, and is incredibly hard working. And she has spread her wings with great success as Deputy Mayor for London. She has to be a strong candidate as the next MP for Kensington

  12. I am amazed that Victoria Borwick is not doing more to promote herself as the right candidate. She has trod the street; raised money for the Party. And now is Boris's No 2.
But best of all...she is a local girl made good. So Conservative HQ...stuff your outsiders and caroet baggers. We want Victoria

    3. Yeah....you are such a bore. Why not stand yourself so we cn see how a solid blue seat can go to Labour. Only you could achieve it!!

  13. According to Ladbrokes the odds for Cllr Borwick have already improved from 20:1 to 16:1. The two talked about local candidates are Cllr Lightfoot and Cllr Borwick. Tory Central Office is already in overdrive promoting their stars of tomorrow - Smith, Cracknell, Strauss and Kamall. The local Conservative Association needs to resist this. We have had too many carpet baggers foist on the residents of Kensington in the last twenty years

    ReplyDelete
  14. Avoid Lightfoot at all costs. He cannot cope with responsibility or the public. If he even thinks a resident has the temerity to disagree with him, he screams at them in front of fellow councillors, senior police, officers and other residents.

    1. Lightfoot is a serious Candidate. He is already building an election team and has been taking discrete soundings

    2. Lightfoot you cannot be serious. Totally off the wall and bottom of the list to become London
      mayor.

  16. The useless Guido Fawkes has a list of potential candidates all male. Why won't the conservative Party listen, and put the best candidate forward who just happens to be a woman. Step forward Victoria Borwick and stand for selection.

  17. Couldn't we tempt Boris to dump Uxbridge, and take up the space gracefully vacated by Sir Malc this morning? Or, if it is to be a woman, his sister Rachel? She even lives here.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Rachel Johnson is uninterested in the dull nitty gritty of politics. It's high time K & C Tories finally accepted that its passion for celebrity MPs has been disastrous. We need a serious candidate who comes equipped with a positive and varied CV plus equally positive reports from the voting public. A certain VB comes to mind.
