An Apology to Cllr Wade

Nothing gives the Dame greater pleasure than to be told she is wrong and have the chance to make amends. And this is the case with Cllr Wade.
The Dame has had a flood of comment from fellow councillors and residents saying what an admirable and hardworking councillor Linda Wade is.

The Dame has been told that she drills down deep within her ward to help those in need, and at meetings her preparation is first class. So the Dame bows her head in shame and sorrow and pays tribute to a first class councillor. Well done Cllr Wade and profuse apologies.

However, she hopes that Cllrs Jones and Caruana will follow the example of Cllr Wade

What we want is action, not words.

Speak up in Council about Cllr Cockell's abuse of expenses.

Speak up in Council and on Committee about subsidised loans to rich friends using tax payer's money

Go to Planning Meetings and speak up for Portobello

Take a robust line at Scrutiny Meetings about Chelsea Care incompetence

    Need I say more?

  3. The difference between Cllr Wade and the other two is that she is rooted in the community that she represents - and she has looked after the residents for many years in various guises. The other two send out scaremongering leaflets and then when the expected problems don't materialise, claim that they have saved the community! So much easier than dealing with the real world.

  5. I doubt Cllr Caruana's constituents share the Dame's, or her correspondent's, negative view of her record. Her dedication is much appreciated by ward residents. As for attending a planning meeting - not even she can be in two places at once. Doubtless similar may be said of Cllr Wade.

Both ladies focus on the needs of residents; rather than engage in the usual party political slanging match. Perhaps the source of stories like this reflects concern within the Labour group that Liberal Democrats' refreshing focus on residents' needs is being recognized by an ever wider public.

Do not advantage yourself of the Dame's munificence. Her apology extended only to Cllr Wade.Referring to your comment..."As for attending a planning meeting - not even she can be in two places at once"
Do you not realise that planning meeting was pivotal in the campaign to save Portobllo. There was no other committee meeting that evening so Cllr Caruana is without excuse for bunking off.
Never forget the adage..'evil flourishes when good men do nothing'. Jones and Caruana need to explain why they did not support the referral of Cockell and Paget-Brown to the Standards Committee. In refusing to do so they are NOT serving the needs of residents:merely avoiding their public duty. I think you must misunderstand the role of the councillor. It is is not ti hide in the face of wrong doing just to have a comfortable life and an allowance.....

  7. 11.04,

Amused to see wishful thinking comments from a Lib-Dem. Cllrs Jones and Caruana should enjoy the next 2 1/2 years on the Council because they are very unlikely to be returned in 2014. The Lib-Dem vote collapsed in the Norland by-election in the portions of the ward that adjoin Colville and have high levels of social housing (most of the Lib-Dem votes came from the posh parts of the ward near Holland Park Avenue, no doubt from disaffected Tories who were disgusted over the Lamont affair).

The feeling on the ground in Colville is that traditional Labour voters are tiring of their flirtation with the Lib-Dems and will return to the fold next time.

  8. The Labour Group shamelessly takes credit for the work of others. One is surprised it hasn't yet issued a newsletter claiming it organized the Royal Wedding.

The real issue is that for decades, RBKC has been run by the Conservatives. There is a small, unaccountable clique controlling the Town Hall. As in all undemocratic institutions; multiple abuses are rife. It is high time residents voted out the clique. Then RBKC may become a Western democracy.

  9. Dame. Please do not disturb yourself over this issue. I am engaged with the 'Save the Portobello Market' campaign. There is a misunderstanding here. Cllr Caruana has been tireless in her support for Portobello. She presented the original Portobello petition to the Council etc. Regarding the Planning meeting - various people offered to speak; but she was unable to do so. I understand there was another community related meeting that evening.

  10. Perhaps Councillor Caruana needs to be reminded that there are other issues in Kensington and Chelsea. As leader, I think, of her group, she should spend more time on matters other than Portobello. Political leadership and fighting sleaze are issues she must concentrate on, if she wishes to be taken serriously

  11. Sounds a very good idea. Particularly the sleaze.

  12. "The Dame has had a flood of comment from fellow councillors"

    That is revealing

  13. Kensington Resident has a very well made case here. Lid Dems needs show steel: they are NOT in coalition

  14. I think the Dame is doing a splendid job in tracking down sleaze and poor service. I have been speaking to my friend Councillor Up Yours who was kind enough to find a few minutes to talk to me in a short rest period from his duties as chief sycophant and chief detective for Sir Dear Leader. A task that he was asked to take on after the sad departure of a previous and devoted mayor. He has promised to nominate Dame Hornet for an honour far greater even than the title of Dame awarded to her on the recommendation of David Cameron, and that is a Royal Borough Mayor's Award for outstanding service to the Royal Borough. May I be the first to congratulate her.

  15. If the LDs just want to be helpful they can become parish visitors. Casework is essential but being a Councillor is a political role as well. Clearly none of the three are well suited for that.

Incidentally I was told that Caruana was specifically asked NOT to attend Planning as her previous performance had been unimpressive, to put it politely.

  16. Fine words, Mosquito. But the reality is that Labour Party Councillors have been so keen not to offend Dear Leader, that they forgot that they were not an extension of the Tory Party, particularly when serving on the Scrutiny Committee. When unpleasant practices needed exposing, they were silent. Things may be different now but far too late.

  17. Anonymous 17.02, it is never too late to put wrongs right.

After all, that is what we are asking of the Conservative Group, so why not accept the Labour Group has changed tack?

  18. Linda "One Term" Wade is a glorified social worker.

Candidates from any party can focus on doing social work for ward residents. However, her campaign literature was based on the premise that she would clean up the sleaze at RBKC's town hall. Given that Earl's Court was a traditional Conservative ward, she won many votes on that now false promise. Many people in Earl's Court will feel very let down by her broken promises, and camaraderie with many councillors and individuals that prop up the Cockell regime.

She's just another hog with her snout in the RBKC trough.

  19. CLLR Linda Wade works very hard for Earls Court residents and those"in need". We need more like her.
I am not a lib dem supporter as such but in K & C we need less greedy Torys.
