Rock Hot To Trot-except he got it totally wrong

As part of his profile raising programme Sir Cockel urged Rock FM to find any opportunity to gain community kudos. When Royal Mail gave details of a scam involved Premium Rate numbers our £55,000 a year councillor was hot to trot. With the full force of the £ million a year PR Dept behind him Rock gave this dramatic warning....except the scam was closed down 6 years ago...what a waste of if our time and money. The NUMBER IS UNOBTAINABLE ROCK!!!

Left: Leader in Waiting warns of scam

"I urge all residents to be aware of this nasty and costly scam. In the run-up to Christmas people will naturally be expecting to receive parcels and could be fooled into ringing this premium rate number".

Making these sorts of 'statements' would  normally fall to the Trading Standards Officer; it is a job for an officer.  Fielding Mellen should be spending time on Ward duties: something he is much criticised for neglecting.
We are beginning to see various odd councillors trying push themselves into the limelight to make it seem they have some sort of executive power: it's all to do with justifying their outrageously high Special Responsibility Allowances. In Rock's case this is the first year he ever been paid for anything! He maybe jockeying for position in the Leadership stakes, but for goodness sake leave these sorts of statements to responsible officers. You just make yourself look as if you are scrabbling around looking for something to do

The Dame has left  details  here..

Residents are being urged to be aware of a postal fraud which could cost them hundreds of pounds.

Royal Mail has given details of just how the scam works to the Council's Community Safety team.

A card is posted through your door from a company called PDS (Parcel Delivery Service) suggesting that they were unable to deliver a parcel and that you need to contact them on 0906 6611911 (a premium rate number).

DO NOT call this number, as this is a mail scam originating in Belize.

If you call the number and you start to hear a recorded message you will already have been billed £315 for the phone call.

If you do receive a card with these details, then please contact Royal Mail Fraud on 020 7239 6655.

"Please do not ring the number on any card you receive from PDS but get in touch with the Royal Mail's fraud team."

  1. What humbug. And how corrupt of Cockell and Mellen to use this scam as a "personal promotion opportunity". Too many councillors with not enough to do and looking for ways to justify their existence.

Of course a £315 telephone scam is awful. It is something that needs to fixed between the police and BT. Disable the number on the telephone network for a start.

Pubescent public school boys like Cllr Fielding-Mellen jumping around in million pound council PR efforts is pathetic.

  2. Why on earth is the council spending money on Press Releases like this? Law and order is a metter for the police.

Its an extension of the ridiculous job title for Cllr Fielding-Mellen. "Cabinet Member for Civil Liberty"

    What abnoxious rubbish

  3. This guy Mellen needs to get a proper job. At 32 he has never had one and so fiddling around on the council gives himself to talk about at his Notting Hill dinner parties. Get a proper job lad

Why is an able bodied and educated young man urging residents to "beware of this scam"? Has he nothing better to do?

Does he think that his pathetic press release, read by no one, will make a scrap of difference?

Why is council tax being used to support a PR Department that peddles this trash?

  5. This is shocking. Not even an April Fools joke.

Old and vulnerable people will be scared stiff of stories like this. How can a serving councillor, a peoples representative, be allowed to put around scare stories like this? It is a gross misuse of public resources.

The guy needs to be fired

  6. Even the facts are wrong!!!!

Its a scam that was broken up six years ago. And the sting was £15 for the scam telephone call - not the £315 broadcast by this totally irresponsible Press Release.

Does more need to be said?

  8. A Council in terminal decline. Cockell is too busy with his other appointments to pay any attention to his job as Leader and Myers is now busy with H&F.

Thank you Dame for letting us know what is really going on in Hornton Street.

  9. You actually make it seem so easy with your presentation but I find
this topic to be actually something that I think I would never understand.
It seems too complicated and extremely broad for me.
I'm looking forward for your next post, I'll try to get the hang of it!
