Labour Cllrs say Leader and deputy must go
Labour Councillors at Kensington & Chelsea Council are calling for the immediate resignation of the Leader of the Council and his deputy, who is the Cabinet member for housing and property.
‘These two politicians should take responsibility for the Grenfell Tower disaster, which took so many lives needlessly, despite the warnings by residents and Labour councillors,’ said Robert Atkinson, leader of the Labour Group, whose ward includes the tower.
‘It is totally unfair to force the resignation of CEO Nicholas Holgate for carrying out the policies determined by politicians.’
Cllr Atkinson added that there is no confidence in North Kensington in the political leadership of the Council. Cllr Rock Fielding Mellen, Cabinet Member for Housing and Property, and Cllr Nick Paget Brown should do the decent thing and resign.
The Labour Group welcomes the criminal investigation being undertaken by the Metropolitan Police and will assist in any way it can.
At last... some clarity. Well Done.
ReplyDeleteCant believe 'Piglet ' and 'Rocky' are still hanging on .
ReplyDeleteIncompetent, Incompetent, Incompetent .
ReplyDeleteWarwick must have his grubby paws on this somewhere.
ReplyDeleteCllr Warwick Lightfoot, so-called Cabinet member for Finance, must bear a great deal of the blame. He's been in post for years, ensuring RBKC hangs on to £300 million of residents' "available funds" while residents die.
ReplyDeleteThe Leader and Cabinet of Kensington and Chelsea have no shame. They are hanging on by their finger nails. Everyone of them should have resigned by now.
ReplyDeleteThey show themselves to be the most awful, self interested, public servants. A shame on themselves, on their Council and the Tory Party.
Yes the Leader Deputy Leader and cabinet should resign. they operated in the Weale mode of listen but don't hear and the innocent have suffered.
ReplyDeleteLabour Group in finally getting its act together shocker.
ReplyDeleteHear hear. In fact the whole "cabinet" needs to go and never come back. How are we supposed to have any confidence in our council while these people remain in post? Why have they not been sacked already?
ReplyDeleteI hear that some of the Grenfell residents feel that their Ward councillors have let them down.
ReplyDeleteAbsolute Tosh . Nick Paget Brown and Rock Fielding Mellon need to go .
DeleteI haven't met one Grenfell resident that feels that way .
DeleteI have met more than one Grenfall Resident who feels let down by Labour Councillors. They don't understand why Robert Black, Sasha Jevans and Peter Maddison are still there.
DeletePS 08.27. Baskets will be supplied by Sainsbury's.
DeleteYou would have thought given his main hobby is reputedly strategy games, Holgate would have been the man for such a crisis, but he was always hesitant when it came to making decisions and demonstrating leadership.
ReplyDeleteAny move would have done, but he chose to do nothing and didn't have the guts to visit the scene or talk to the press. He lost everyone's confidence and had to go; it's as simple as that.
Dear Dame
ReplyDeleteWhy are the guillotine and the tumbril not yet en place aux portes de Hornton Street? Heads must roll tout de suite.
Anon 10:46: exactly so... Should be a public meeting of beheadings..and heads parades throughout the Borough, and adorn the Chelsea Bridge thereafter..
ReplyDeleteSeriously, though, this self-serving, amoral lot should resign and be done. Could you have such a thing as a 'Borough by-election of Councillors?
In respect of Holgate: he was nothing but a spineless, prissy lipped 'yes-man'.. no sorrow anywhere about his demise - I am told
Cllrs Atkinson & Blakeman are part of the problem
ReplyDeleteAtkinson and Blakeman are part of the problem because they are not part of the solution. Judith Blakeman has played the tenant management game by being on the TMO Board. She knew that the TMO was failing residents at every turn. If she did not know this to be the case then she should not be a Councillor. But this time, the failure has led to at least eighty people either burning or choking to death.
DeleteThe Council and the TMO has failed at every turn. I do not understand why the Government has not brought in a Housing Commissioner to run TMO housing management functions. The Thatcher Government appointed a Housing Commissioner, for much less serious situation, in Labour run Norwich when the Council refused to implement the Right to Buy scheme in the 1980's.
ReplyDeleteSimilarly, the Tory Government appointed Commissioners in Rotherham and Tower Hamlets but there again these were Labour Councils with a very dirty smell about them.
Is the Government not appointing Commissioners in RBK&C just because it is a so called "flagship" Tory Council. I had hoped that Emma Dent Coad MP would be raising hell and high water about the Government's failure to bring in Commissioners on the floor of the House of Commons. But who am I, what do I know...... why should my opinion count for anything?
