The Dame attended the Council meeting tonight hoping to hear feats of oratory as councillors memorialised the departure of Pooter Cockell with tearful tributes.
Did the Conservative Group show any signs of devastation and abandonment at his leaving the Council?
Not a bit....
In fact, apart from the obligatory handful of half hearted 'devoted to the council for thirty years and Leader for thirteen', there was little to mark his going.
It's clear the Group are very happy with Nick Paget-Brown and just want to blank out all traces of Pooter's self indulgent regime.
One Council observer told the Dame, 'it was hardly the kind of send-off you might expect for a former Leader, which suggests that all the nastiness towards him is reasonably universal.'
Slow clapping is hardly an endorsement, and that says it all about what his colleagues think about Cockell and his outside interests.
The end of a sad chapter in the history of the Royal Borough. Now we can get on with the rest of our lives
ReplyDeleteBut sadly it looks as though he is to get his peerage amongst the end of parliament listing.
ReplyDeleteAnthing to back this up? It will be a travesty if he does
DeleteHis pomposity will reach new heights should he receive a peerage. If Cameron elevates this self serving nonentity, it will not reflect well on his leadership of the party.
DeleteIt all adds up.
DeleteScrounge Pooter would not have given up his £11k Council allowance unless he could replace it with a £120k House of Lords allowance. And he could hardly allow himself to be introduced as a mere "Councillor" when there was a Lordship on offer.
Another dose of cynicism will be injected into the electorate.
ReplyDeleteThe thing is that he will never look or sound like a Lord. He should join the Labour Party
ReplyDeleteThe next step is to get shot of Moylan.
ReplyDeleteRobert freeman refused to give a clap or stand
ReplyDeleteTypical Freeman....his own man. He should have been in the Cabinet years ago displacing one of the current thicko's
DeleteYes, Robert Freeman is, as his name so perfectly describes, a man who will always freely follow his conscience. If the sycophants around Cockell had followed their consciences then the reign of Cockell would have been short.
DeleteMoney and corrupt use of power severly damaged our Borough.
If as appears likely, Cockell is to receive a peerage for his long years of devoted disservice to RBKC. This will tell us all we need to know about the ex Etonian,Oxford and Bullingdon Club clique that passes for the current British government.
ReplyDeleteThis clique is about to decide our representative in the Mother of Parliaments. Such patronage is made possible by widespread autopilot voting. It's time for residents to express their outrage via the ballot box.
Well, Pooter was never part of the Establishment being a non public school ex fag salesman. He's certainly no English gentleman with his very shady Middle European background.
ReplyDeleteThough Jewish he hid it and behaved vilely to other Jewish folk
DeleteThe local obsession with people's background is one of the least attractive aspects of life in K & C. Pooter is a public disgrace due to his self serving attitude to public life - not because his grandparents were born abroad. By the same token Moylan is unacceptable, not because his father earned an honest living driving a bus, but because he's an arrogant bully with a dubious reputation.
ReplyDeleteBackground is important, Sir. In Kensington, at least.
Deletewell said 12:42, but why has Cockell stood down? Seems strange after standing last year at the local elections.
ReplyDeleteRejoice! The reptile has gone.
ReplyDeleteIf Cameron wants to make an idiot and public spectacle of himself by making Cockle a Lord then he and his party will be diminished in the eyes of the electorate.
ReplyDeletePooter is a diminished man with a diminished career in local Government. He started well but stayed too long. Corrupted by power, as predicted by Lord Acton
