SHOULD THE CHELSEA SOCIETY BUTT OUT OF CROSSRAIL 2 DEBATE?

RESIDENT ASSOCIATION
CHAIR PERSONS
Tonight, over 250 residents swarmed into the Chelsea Town Hall to hear why the Crossrail 2 Station should NOT be built on the site of the Fire Station in King's Rd.
The meeting was a heated affair.....

When Cllr Coleridge attempted to put the case for the Council he was shouted down.
STANDING ROOM ONLY
It seems the only resident facing association in favour of the King's Road site is the Chelsea Society.
The leading figures of this Society have links with powerful local property interests.

In this important debate they are all heavily conflicted.
In the interests of fairness the Society should not lobby on behalf of the Crossrail 2 Station at the Fire Station site.
But maybe hope can be drawn from the statement made by Michael Steven, head of the Society's Planning Sub Committee. He said he would be feeding back the residents' views to the Society's council....

  1. This was all sorted ages ago. There was a major consultation. Where was Dr. Taylor then? That was his opportunity to put the kibosh on the fire station option. But only the lower orders at Cremorne fought for their homes and succeeded in getting the station moved back to the fire station site. We will end up with no Crossrail station, either at Kings Road or at Kensal. Which will be a good thing because property developers will then leave us alone. everyone wants to redevelop by Crossrail stations, look at what is happening elsewhere.

    1. The only objective we had was to save our homes and our communities in an honest and honourable manner. We came together from all political persuasions and social backgrounds. Most of us born in Chelsea. From Lots Village,Ten Acres, The World's End, Cheynne Walk, The Cremorne Gardens,The Cremorne Estate, The King's Road and many more. We do not wish to be misrepresented. We did not vote tactically. We wish to be left alone to live our lives as we have always done.

  2. Chelsea Society finally found out. It should be taken over by the Kensington Society and the deadwood moved out.

  3. If I remember correctly, the Chelsea Society initially supported the destruction of the Sutton Estate, until Michael Stephen looked into the issue and re-evaluated their position. He seems to be an honourable man looking out for the interests of Chelsea.
