THE DAME LENDS HER AMPLE WEIGHT TO WESTWAY23 DEMO. STOP THE ROT IN THE ROTTEN BOROUGH

Residents lazily expecting others to protect Kensington & Chelsea from greedy developers, aided and abetted by equally lazy councillors, have no reason to complain when architectural gems like Marlborough Primary School are razed to the ground.
The school will now be the site of multi million pound flats for crooks from countries you don't want your gap year children sending postcards from.
Fortunately, those in the north of the Borough are made of sterner stuff.
REAL LOCALISM IN ACTION....STERNER STUFF

They are putting up a strong fight against the moronic Angela McConville and her boring plans to sanitise one of the few characterful parts of the Borough.
The Dame is delighted to report and support this initiative by Westway23. You can find out more about Westway23 HERE

She may be old fashioned but she hates this bullying of communities by wannabe developers like the tiresome McConville

"On Sunday 5th July Westway23 are hosting a creative demonstration of community in various areas along the 23 acres under the Westway - A40(M) in LADBROKE GROVE - an enormous area left to the local community 44 years ago as compensation for the destruction of  homes and the ongoing harm from the highest pollution levels in the UK.

After years of wasted resources and the loss of countless community groups and spaces, this is our opportunity to ensure that local people have real control and access over our space, as a bloated and disconnected Trust moves toward its aim of 'Destination Westway.' STAND WITH US AGAINST UNCHECKED GENTRIFICATION, SOCIAL CLEANSING AND PREVENTION OF REAL COMMUNITY ACCESS, CULTURE AND POWER.

There will be activities, entertainments and information to join in with and share so that the entire community can enjoy a demonstration of creativity and a day of creative demonstration! THE PROCESSION WILL BEGIN AT THE WESTWAY STABLES AT 2pm.

SUNDAY 5th JULY 12 - 4pm." MEET AT THE WESTWAY STABLES......just west of Latimer Road underground station or join the demo along the route....

  2. A good question. The people of N. Kensington will certainly support it. Lots of them, of all classes and ethnicities.. The music will obviously be fabulous and so will the vibe. I hope food will be on offer. It will be a sort of mini-carnival, rather than an ersatz beach! Genuine fun for all the family - but with a serious purpose. Saving the area and its communities from mindless development! Please join us on Sunday afternoon!

  4. The Dame has taken against Angela McConville, the very smart looking and young CEO of the Westway Trust. Ms McConville has a weekly column in the local paper (Kenisngton & Chelsea Post) where she argues her case for change. The Editor obviously feels that she should be given airtime and nowhere in the paper is the opposition to what the Westway Trust is doing being represented.

Is the Dame certain that she is not being hoodwinked? What is the position of the Member of Parliament?

    1. The Dame is a a shrewd old bird and sees Miss McConville for what she is. She also notes the lady is from Dublin: a once beautiful city despoiled by greedy and crooked property developers, funded by equally crooked Irish banks. Her boring 'Portobello Village' is the sort of nonentity Dublin developers would love. As to her being 'smart looking'? The Brigadier, the Dame's fourth husband, was wont to say, "handsome is as handsome does".....

    1. No, the Dame likes some feisty opposition to the bureaucratic process.
      This is called localism.

    2. More accurately the Dame recognises that there are many residents who abhor the conduct the RBKC and the Westway Trust in steamrollering this tawdry project. The All Saints horror is a glaring example of the RBKC’s arrogance and incompetence. Renta Crowd it isn’t …

  7. Nonsense. The Dame continues to support local residents. In a democracy the public has every right to peacefully demonstrate it's views.

You should have attended the so-called public consultations in March. Without exception, everyone from council tenants, street traders and Rastas to American bankers' wives said the same thing. The Westway Trust is determined to destroy what is great in North Kensington and replace it with nothing of social or commercial value. This is obvious to all those who have examined the plans. As for Observer's statement above, if the Trust knew it's business, it wouldn't need a regular column in the local paper to try to explain itself; nor an expensive propaganda campaign.

The only real issue is whether the Trust consciously plans to drive itself into bankruptcy while destroying the social fabric of the neighbourhood, or is it too dumb even for that. Unless the plans are radically amended, this is what will happen. Needless to say, however poor the quality, the 23 acres are valuable.

On Sunday afternoon there will be a great, happy family day. Everyone is welcome and everyone will have a great time!

  8. McConville has the Council behind her and the local paper behind her. Rent A Crowd is no match for this. Even Labour and Lib Dem Councillors seem to support the CEO.

The Dame is rabble rousing. Shame on her!

    1. I hope you are not suggesting that a group of concerned residents are a 'rabble'? You may not agree with their views but don't insult local people with a deep committment to their community

    2. Thank heavens for an old-fashioned Tory, who values the diverse community we all are lucky enough live in. It would be easy to counter 'Renta Crowd' with 'Hedge-fund/Media Spiv-on-the-make’ but that would be equally absurd and prejudiced ….

  9. The Good Dame is merely reporting on the events in the north of the most rotten of rotten boroughs. The RBKC has pretty poor track record, as does the Westway Trust on transparency — would either of them survive a close forensic examination of their conduct … I fear they wouldn’t. The writer hoists his colours by the term Rent A Crowd — constituents and residents calling their representatives to account is a more accurate reflection.

  10. McConville's propaganda spiel in the local newspaper is doubtless funded by the Trust; money better spent on services to residents.

This is not a party political issue, but of social justice and democracy. The silence from Labour is the result of the recent coup against EDC. There may even be a direct relationship between this scandal and the coup. EDC would have been vociferous in support of residents.

As the photos on this blog of Westway23's recent demo outside HPO showed, the mood was festive and the music glorious. It was public involvement at it's best. RBKC's no longer new Leader has since responded by commenting that at a time of cuts, the arts should not be begrudged money! We'e all aware that it's long been RBKC policy to begrudge funding to the poor, the disabled, the elderly and similar irrelevances.

Sunday's walk will be a festivity. A celebration of London life. Everyone will be welcome.

  12. Ms Tuvey has the misfortune to own the Westway stables. The Trust intends to shut them down. For years she's provided north Kensington children with the chance to ride and care for horses. The Trust claims the stables are uneconomic. This is because it recently had its 23 acres revalued at current prices. In the light of this exercise no business now operating on WWT land is economically viable; hence the "need" for regeneration. The plans are so poorly designed, they may well fail, by accident or otherwise. In that case the Trust will collapse and the land will be sold off. There's serious money to be made.

Next Sunday 12 - 4pm 100s of locals will walk the 23 acres from the stables to Portobello in support of Ms Tuvey and all those whose lives have been damaged by those now running the Westway Trust. Please join the party on Sunday.

  15. Most of the Westway Trust's proposed outrages are planned to take place in the ward that Cllr Dent Coad represents, so if she wishes to engage in the Westway23 campaign, she is very well placed to do so.

  16. Cllr Dent Code sits on the Planning Committee, so she can attend and observe campaign events and attend and observe consultations and exhibitions, but if she gets involved on either side or gives an opinion before it reaches the Planning meeting, she will be banned from that meeting. The rules are very strict.

  17. Let the Dame make her position clear. She has always been a great admirer of Victoria Borwick.
As councillor she was one of the 'Few' who refused to be whipped. Her independence was the prime reason she was never given a richly deserved Cabinet position. From what I hear she is applying the same intensity and commitment to the concerns of Ward residents as she was before being elected MP. The Dame holds no special brief for Borwick but admires her energy and committment.
This is a blog about Westway...it is not a blog about the MP.
