Sums up Labour really; stupid and they do not have a clue and yet people will still vote for them! A party in my view which should have been disected and banned for malice and incompetence after a catastrophic 13 years in office. We are still paying for all the gold which was sold at rock bottom prices.
Dame Hornet, as this article in today's Evening Standard makes clear, Labour is contesting every seat in London on 22 May. That's Labour policy and having a full slate of candidates in RBKC simply reflects that.
Your contribution of the 28th April shows what a centrally controlled party Labour really is. I should imagine that when Labour makes a policy, it has to be faithfully implemented by it minions who would incur the wrath of the powers that be if they failed to do as they were told. Obedience to authority is hardly the stuff of radical politics! I suppose the centrally controlled structure of the Party means that it is impossible for a local Labour Group to ask for a dispensation from the centrally imposed dictat in the interests of pragmatism and localism.
Labour loves to blame the deficit on greedy bankers which is only part of the truth. It fails to mention that Gordon Brown ran structural deficits of around 4% of GDP from 2001 onwards in the best Keynsian tradition of the Party.I have not forgotten the economic mess left behind Labour in 1979. Nor have I forgotten its terribly witty Finance Minister who left the Treasury with a note when he left in 2010 saying," There is no money left, good luck" No wonder Labour stands no chance of winning Stanley.
How can we trust Labour?. The local party agreed that it would not put up candidates and then breaks its promise because the national party says it must- what a shower. Is this how it will be if Labour wins a general election.
What follows from the Labour Party's decision to put up candidates to challenge the Tories in Stanley ward (which Labour has absolutely no prospect of winning) is this - If the Stanley ward electorate will not vote Labour, the Labour Party will make sure that Stanley ward remains Conservative. Let's face it, Labour supporters would be unlikely to vote Tory if no Labour candidates were standing in the ward. However, they would probably be willing vote for the Independent Trio in the absence of any Labour candidates. After all, the Independent Trio come to the political arena full of energy and vitality without the dreary party political line. Above all else, they want to make a difference for local people from the staid Conservative status quo.
Having just received the Labour Party's election material for the European Election, the residents of Stanley ward will recoil in horror at the claim that Labour will reduce the cost of living - what a hoot. Has the Labour Party forgotten that the Blair Administration forced RBKC to double Council Tax bills in Stanley ward by reducing grants to the Council and by compelling Local Authorities to perform a host of additional statutory duties, the cost of which were passed on to the Council Taxpayer. It would never do for the good Fabian Socialists to raise the additional revenue required for the additional responsibilities wrought on local authorities by putting up income tax Oh that would never do - Voters in Stanley beware that voting Labour nowadays is a question of vote Labour for the best Tory Administration that you have ever had.
I hope the residents of the Sutton Estate remember that it was Labour who did them down by putting up candidates in Stanley Ward. In the long run, it was Labour who put the nail in the coffin for the Sutton Estate

Labour is interested only in Labour.
ReplyDeleteIt certainly demonstrates a distinct lack of tactical awareness.

ReplyDeleteMuch as one may dislike them, one does not "ban" a political party in a democracy. It's a path that leads to fascism.
ReplyDeleteIn my view they are as dangerous and as rotten as BNP.
DeleteI can only assume you've never seen the BNP up close.
DeleteI heard that local Labour refused to put up candidates; someone leaked and London Labour Party swept in and did it instead.

Then they are bigger idiots than ever be imagined. Stanley could have been used to Cockell in the face.

DeleteTypical Labour! Quote a rag newspaper to explain policy. Hope "Anonymous" of 28th April is not a Labour Councillor in the Borough.

Tell it like it is, Shane
DeleteGo, go go. This is Labour Party stupidity at its best.
DeleteThere is nothing like a Dame for getting things right.
Delete"Stupid Labour" says The Dame
Their stupidity is breathtaking. I live in Stanley and have not been canvassed by any of the local Labour candidates.
Psephology is wasted on the Leader and Deputy Leader of the K&C Labour Party.
DeleteAt least the LIb Dems had the decency not to put up any candidates in Stanley Ward. Labour's decision to contest the Ward is simply ghastly.
