BIGGEST BASEMENT EXCAVATION PLANNED FOR WALTON ST

Residents living around Pont Street, Ovington Street, The Lennoxes and Walton Street should brace themselves for three years of utter misery....the Old Court House in Walton Street is due to get a massive 4 level basement development.
THE OLD COURT HOUSE

The billionaire Canadian owner, David Graham, plans one of the Borough's most aggressive and gigantic of basement developments. It is worth looking at the applicant's defence of the indefensible PR Doc

A BASEMENT EXCAVATION
The Dame is assembling much more detail, however it seems the owner plans to descend below ground to possibly four levels. The noise, dust and likely destabilisation of the foundations of nearby property will be a serious issue for those in the area.

The application can be refused: it is NOT A FAIT ACCOMPLI but it does need those likely to be affected to make their voices heard. The three councillors need to engage with residents- and not turn the usual Nelsonian blind eye.

The full extent of the application can be seen here.

  1. Amazing. But it has to be stopped. Who are the Ward Councillors?

    1. I do think it's rather twee regardless of whether dear David will ever get to enjoy it's amenities. One seriously hopes he does. Shame the servants will be holed up in the basement, but at least David will be able to attract young cheap labour, no ties of course, as all the financially insecure are being shipped out to Liverpool et alia. Imagine do, the hungry clientele of the local bistros and the shifty shutterbugs waiting for the clapping cobblestones to sound the arrival of the Golden Belles to the ball, so de rigueur. Forbes, Fortune, AD, Grand Design, oh sweet forever, Mr Graham and Company have entered the building.

  4. That is just the problem....the three are reactive-not procactive.
They should be out insisting that the Council make a far wider distribution of the planning notice. So far it extends to to a very narrow area.

  6. 'RBK&C' BASEMENT TROPHY MOLE DIG AT WALTON ST.

Many thanks for copying me in. These people just do not
    know when to stop !

Sadly, the trophy mole dig at 52 Chepstow Villas, junction of
Chepstow Villas/Portobello Road has gone ahead. 'Luckily' it is
only a 'one-tier-mole-dig'. and in fact will only be marginally
lower than our shops' already existing 140 year (basements),
and a yard plus from our boundary wall. Also we have ensured
the most stringent engineering, and insurance/'compensatory'
safeguards. In essence all of little comfort.

That said, just opposite - 50 Chepstow Villas - their trophy mole
dig was a nightmare. Up the road, some banker at Stanley Crescent,
made life a two year hell for residents. (some folks at the banker's
expense had to be temporarily rehoused !).

Again. No stopping these celebrity trophy mole digs ! Opposite, on the
opposite corner at '45' (?) Chepstow Villas (large corner house), actress
Cindy Crawford has applied for her massive basement dig, and up the road
another film mogul is going for his...are they all going underground, where
they hope to join up ? Also what is the 'new' rates position with all this ?

It may useful - I'll dig it out - the lengthy email response I had from John Bore
Director, at RBK&C Planning. He makes a number of points, inter alia the number
of rejected basement applications that go to prohibitively costly (for the
    public purse) Judicial reviews.

There are ways of tackling these these RBK&C 'excavators'. The best is to studiously
go through the Party Wall Act 1996 and Awards etc. Essentially it is one sided, in favour
of the applicant-building owner, but contains one gem - the issue of "INCONVENIENCE" !

In the hands of good Counsel residents at Walton St could go a long with citing the said
Act, and interpreting it to their advantage.

    Keep Stinging !

    Mirek Malevski/Portobello Properties.

PS I rather think that Sir Malcom Rifkind's response to the Dame's was reasonable
and gentlemanly. No ? I wouldn't mind a jar or two on the Commons terrace.

  8. Where is your silly story about Sir Merrick, RFM and the Bentley? Why has it been "deleted"? Has one of your editors been found out and the Saville police have come a knocking?

    1. I am delighted you are such an avid reader...keep it up.
Now let's address your sadness. it has been merely been held over whilst we focus on the basement story. I don't think the Dame or any of her staff would have issues with child pornography..that is something that your colleagues have issues with.. Barry Phelps( resigned) Mark Daley(resigned) Andrew Lamont(convicted)...we could go on...there are three other councillors with issues.
Some advice...don't make comments which allow the Dame to resurrect the under age sex scandals that have enveloped the Rotten Borough!

    2. Note that Hornet is still not denying the Police story

    3. Why is that new residents do not feel their way carefully and politely rather than upsetting neighbours with seemingly no thought at all for the environment and fellow members of the Human Race. The Council should put a halt on developments such as this which add absolutely nothing to the well being of the Royal Borough. If the council are not prepared to protect the interests of residents, the environment and equally importantly protect wildlife of the Royal Borough then in all honesty it has ceased to be remotely worthwhile and we should all give up!

  9. The Dame has frequently discussed the fact that the police did say that they were unable to prosecute the ex cllr who was forced by Mr Myers to resign. The Dame also well publicised the conviction of ex Cllr Lamont who threatened to sue the Dame. The police obviously are keen to meet with the Dame to discuss the Fourth Man. It is difficult to know what else Cllr Palmer is discussing. Does he know of yet another councillor colleague with a predilection for under age boys?

  10. I think Cllr Palmer is attempting to distract us all. The rather embarrassing fact is that one of the links from his rather pathetic council training website led to a site promoting 'one night stands' for married people! Shame on your Cllr Palmer...

  11. Cllr Palmer...one of your senior colleagues has form with an overseas police force. You need to shut up before it leaks out...and then that cllr will only have you to blame......

Your comment...'the kind of people this site attracts'obviously encompasses you!
Rather than using this site for your rather eccentric purposes, please stick to the topic in hand....which is the Old Court House. If you continue to abuse the site the Dame will have to moderate your input.
