Marlborough School is now under severe threat.
Despite Mr Roberts, the relevant officer, telling members that English Heritage were considering the preservation of the building not one member thought to ask why a decision should not be delayed until the outcome of EH's deliberations.
Well done...cllrs Atkinson;Caruana and Dent Coad for having the good taste to vote against this act of vandalism.
So our council follows its well trodden path of destroying any vestige of local Victorian architecture.
To add insult to injury the project architects are the creators of the hideous £30 million folly Exhibitionist Rd.
No....the Dame is not going to go down the other road of asking how Dixon Jones managed to wangle their way into yet more juicy council work.
The Dame will be fiercely moderating any comments she perceives to be any way defamatory on this one....you have been warned....fly on the wall!

Dear Dame, you are ill-informed. Cllrs Caruana and Atkinson, and myself, voted against the application on specific grounds. We were also informed that if the listing application is successful, an entirely new application will be needed.
ReplyDeleteGiven the shambles of last night's meeting it is perhaps forgivable that, on this occasion the Dame got her facts wrong. The final vote on the project was 4 to 3 . with Cllrs Dent Coad,Caruana and I dissenting. And we were assured that if the existing school is indeed listed the whole thing will go back to the drawing board. Cllr Robert Atkinson
ReplyDeleteNo surprises that the planning department organised a shambles. Thanks Emma for clarifying, you always are spot on!
ReplyDeleteThe Dame is suitable mortified and will engage in some self flagellation. Apologies to Cllrs Dent Coad; Atkinson and Caruana.....and well done!
ReplyDeleteSelf flagellation!!! Apologies required to disgraced ex Cllr Phelps then
DeleteI will be very happy, for a variety of reasons, to visit the Dame and assist in the flagellation process....old cow!
ReplyDeleteYet another pseudonym for Palmer, dear thing!
