EDC says that the violence is committed by only one per cent of the people who go to the Carnival. So that's all right then. Good to know when you are stabbed.
Does the very well educated Emma Dent Coad MP know that one percent of Carnival visitors acting violently is a large number of people. Sounds like she is an apologist for the violent. Would she be so blase about violence if this were not a Black Community event.
According to Time Out London, there are up to 2 million attendees at Carnival every year, plus 40,000 volunteers and 9,000 police and it goes without saying that Emma Dent Coad loves it. So the one percent of violent people that the Emma Dent Coad MP is talking is only 20,490 people. Good to know when you are stabbed.
Met Police Commander Musker says that 70 people were stabbed at last year's carnival and four nearly of them lost their lives. Why didn't Emma Dent Coad say that instead of reducing the appalling level of serious violence to 1% of carnival revellers. We know that Emma isn't racist. But like all those on the political left, she finds it necessary to prove that she is not a racist by saying stupid things under the guise of support for the black community.
Emma Dent Coad needs to get real. 70 people stabbed at carnival last year is nearly as many as those who burnt to death in Grenfell Tower.
Nah - 200 upwards
Are they as many stabbing during the carnival in Brazil? I wonder...
Because thousands and thousands of people come in from outside, stupid! And this community pub was always open at Carnival until it was bought by a property speculator.
The Hornet's Nest- a lover of the the Daily Mail and Nick Paget Brown. Zero credibility!
Zero Credibility? Don't you dare display your dimwittedness to the 30,000 unique visitors who read the Dame's ramblings last month! The Dame loves the Daily Mail for its health tips. For a ninety year old her skin is like a baby's bottom thanks to DM 'product' recommendation.Every resident has a right to debate whether a residential area is now the right place for the large, and difficult to police, Carnival. Don't tell residents that they are not allowed to criticise this 'sacred cow'.
Oh dear, the Dame certainly gave 00:08 a good old kicking!Long live the Dame and Free Speech.I have been reading her stuff for seven years. Her attacks on the Council are the stuff of legend. What have you ever done 00:08
Can always tell when an ousider comment.
I think the Council and the TMO have been responsible for far more deaths than the Carnival .
I hate the TMO but they haven't stabbed anyone.
08.50 or dealt drugs
How is it worse to stab people than to let them burn to death in a building where you have been contemptuous and litigious about the threat of fire?
This is one of the more stupid comments I have seen on the Hornet. No of course it is absolutely fine to stab people because of Grenfell.
@08:50 No, you are correct but they burned them alive.
08.50 here. Please be assured that I detest the TMO with a vengeance. I didn't intend to make light of the TMO burning and choking 80 people to death and leaving all of the Grenfell survivors destitute.Nor did I want to play down the situation as Emma Dent Coad MP appears to have done about the impact of violent crime, including knife crimes, amongst the 1% minority of criminals attending carnival. I am sure that Doreen, Baroness Lawrence would agree with me about the seriousness of knife crime.
Before the Grenfell Tower fire, we were told first hand how the bureaucrats of KCTMO caused tenants/leaseholders mental breakdown, severe distress and emotional/physical damage through their failure to discharge their duties, non-cooperation and diversion.
Too true. I told Emma Dent Coad what you are saying and she did nothing.
Take your grubby hands off our Dame. She is well preserved by fine French wines, which I had the privilege to savour recently.Re KPH: I understand that the place was sold to a pub chain and will become yet another gastro hangout for the LG yuppies. (Post here a while ago?) The boarding up is just a coincidence,so that works can go ahead inside in due course.
Dear Dame. I have been following you for years, and have often had a good chuckle at some of your posts. But I have to say this one is daft. I live around the corner from where these pics were taken. The KPH, as you well know, is closed and derelict: another example of a local pub soon to be redeveloped as private housing. The Tesco will morph into a liquor outlet. Most of the shelves will be cleared and stocked with cans of Red Stripe for the duration of Carnival. And that's the problem. Booze is the main drug of choice at Carnival. If you were to sit in my front room you would see, from about 3.00 pm on Sunday onwards, the Living Dead shambling along with their cans and pint bottles of spirits. By the evening, they will be shouting, falling over etc. If you want a trouble-free Carnival then ban the likes of Tesco from selling 4-packs of beer. And the pubs, which also have queues around the block for takeouts. They're making a fortune. In fact, if you want a trouble-free Carnival, then ban the selling of booze within the perimeter. As far as the boarding-up goes, that's the insurers ... sorry, must go now to clear up my front garden, secure the gate etc against the hordes of desperate pissheads who'll use my garden as a toilet because the Council doesn't supply enough Portaloos. Enjoy!
Booze is a problem at carnival. Don't forget the air is thick with the smell of ganja too. Cocaine was a big problem a year or two ago. Sorry to hear about your garden being turned in to a public urinal. The streets of Notting Hill are too small for Carnival.
That's how it has been for decades and unlikely to change anytime soon. If you are so against the merriment, I suggest that you board up and go away for the weekend, as many of my neighbours do every year. Frinton-on-Sea should prove a nice destination.
EDC on the Television. Always negative!! Oh dear
EDC is becoming mega boring. Having a field day kicking the Tories. She needs to ask herself:"If I was in charge what would I have done? What would be different?"Then she needs to tell us the result of her thinking.
Dear Dame,I have been reading your blog for years. I know that Rifkind, Hands and Borwick got a kicking from time to time. Is Cllr Emma Dent Coad MP more unpopular than her predecessors? People seem to loathe her.
She was a good Councillor but is hanging on (also to her allowance). Made an effort to reach out to residents but rejected by her fellow Councillors. Out of her depth as an MP.But raking it in (double dipping as MP and Councillor) which residents and Council Tax Payers do not like to see.Has become a basket case. Sad.
I don't think she was a good Councillor. Yes, Labour Councillors sacked her. Why? I bet the local Labour Party has already started vying to deselect her for the next General Election.
12.33. She must be feeling very insecure in her new job. She knows that fellow socialists plotted to sack her as the leader of labour councillors. The plotting paid off. She knows that she was only nominated to stand for parliament because success for labour was thought unlikely. Deselection is inevitable in favour of a more popular person.
If the Labour Party hasn't already started "vying" to deselect her, they soon will.
I wonder if she was ever a good councillor. Reading the comments on this site and remembering she was sacked as Group Leader by her Labour Colleagues, I doubt if she was even a passable councillor.
RBKC's identity is not defined by any councillor or any MP, some of whom are just too personal, giving the impression they own a slice of everyone and everything in the Borough. Work needs to be done that is all, any councillor/MP should know that good, honest work is their duty and that is what we expect of them as a public servant.
Emma is not going to be de-selected by Labour. She is the best chance of keeping the seat from the Tories. Even though she is actually a Momentum/Socialist Worker Party MP rather than a Labour MP. That doesn't matter. The Tories will have to put up someone anti-Brexit - but what credibility will she or he have in parliament for the Conservative Brexit Party if elected? None! So we have to stick with Emma. Simples!
22.10.During the General Election campaign, Comrade Dent Coad denied through the blog of the gracious lady the Dame that she was a member of Momentum. When did she join it? The Socialist Worker Party doesn't believe in parliamentary democracy. They would not give Emma Dent Coad the steam of their p*ss. This is the woman who sent her kids to Public School. This the woman who talks about her high class Spanish family. At best she is a victim of false consciousness. The Socialist Worker Party did like Alice Mahon, former MP for Halifax. Emma doesn't come close to her intellectually or as a socialist.
There must be others that are better and willing to do the job when the time comes.Too much focus on the personality - what has Emma Dent Coat achieved in her time as Councillor/MP for RBKC?
She bitched about Juliet and Reg on the TMO. She disliked Juliet but never said why.
The answer is bad mouthing as many people as possible. Quite the champion. She now has to attempt to go through the Grenfell Inquiry with her reputation not too sullied.
This is an excellent communication from Healthwatch Central West London. They are quite right to highlight that the answers to the Grenfell catastrophe lie in the capable hands of the local community. No one knows better. The Council needs to learn the lesson of "listening". In my business we called this "walking the talk".Cllr Campbell and her team need to get a grip urgently. |Healthwatch Central West LondonCharity number: 1154777Local people’s questions and concerns following the Grenfell Tower Fire28thJuly2017Involving local people•How is the council going to make surethat the skills and knowledge of survivors, local residents and local organisations are recognised and used to shape new strategies going forward?
It seems that EDC is the Royal Borough's "slagger in chief". How sad. Her energy should be deployed in a more useful direction.
That would require willing and ability. Sadly she has neither. So unpopular and she has only just started.
Nearly 1000 arrests. But mercifully no murders. What a total waste of time and resource. And what a huge burden on residents.
Yes but EDC loves it!!!
Dear Ms Dent Coad MP, I am a gay man living in Portobello. I am pleased that you have had the guts to call out the "SCUM" who attended the carnival event over the weekend and behaved illegally with drugs and knives. The BBC recently broadcasted a documentary claiming that Jamaica was the worst country in the world to live if you are gay or lesbian. For example, in Jamaica if a gay person is murdered by a family member the police refuse to investigate it. It is so bad for gays and lesbians in Jamaica that the Home Office will accept Asylum Seekers from that Country, a Commonwealth Country, on the grounds of being at risk of death and persecution. The Jamaican High Commissioner knows this to be the case and does not call out homophobia. If you doubt what I say ask Peter Thatchell who is in no way racist but he will confirm my point. So why do you, and the Mayor of London, think we should celebrate a culture that is intrinsically homophobic and violent? Every year, I become a prisoner in my home over the carnival weekend. I know that London celebrates gay diversity but gays and lesbians are not intrinsically racist.
17:58 a very insightful and thoughtful point, thank you very much for sharing
@17.58 Don't expect Emma Dent Coad MP to answer. In today's Labour Party the Race Police regard Blacks as being more oppressed than gays and more oppressed than any other minority group including Asians and Jews. Lesbians, Gay, Bi-Sexual, Transgendered and Intersex issues are tagged on to the end of Labour's equalities' debate just for good measure. Sadiq Kahn is more likely to pay honest attention to this than Emma Dent Coad .
This EDC has the interests of her Party foremost in her mind. She hasn't responded to 17.58 No doubt she doesn't want to upset Labour's Race Commissars.
EDC couldn't give a sh*t about gays being persecuted by blacks.
What the egalitarian EDC with all the answers @19.18
I bet Coad supports Corbyn's condemnation of the Labour MP for Rotherham who wrote a piece in The Sun about Asian Sex Gangs, outside of London, raping young women.
11.27 that's about Emma Dent Coad's level.
A completely insightful and thoughtful point, thanks very lots for sharing. dentcoat
