'BUT THEY ALL FELL TO MAKING EXCUSES'.....EXCEPT DIZZIE LIZZIE
Quite a few Conservative councillors were lobbied in an attempt to make them take up the leadership mantle but they all fell to making excuses...." I would have loved to but I have an exotic holiday planned"....and, " sorry, but I have a gammy leg" and, " I don't do poisoned chalices, thanks"
Like it or not, the Tories have a serious problem. Just imagine the culture that created a self image for Cllr Faulks that she imagined that she is Leadership material. Rushing on to Radio 4 to gush and making a fool of herself. Or Cllr Campbell - also rushing on to Radio 4 and making an even bigger fool of herself.
But the Tories voted and Cllr Campbell is now "The One". And what a cock up she continues to make of the job. She insists on holding meetings with Grenfell residents and talking down to them in her silly cut glass accent. The Independent just reported the most recent of these ego trips and summed it up by quoting one of our angry residents:
Grenfell Tower fire: Survivors brand Kensington council leader a 'disgrace' at heated meeting
'Stop lying, stop hiding, stop covering up, stop doing damage limitation and stop this foolishness because we don't get anything out of these meetings apart from the obvious fact that you don't care'
She is just interested in being the center of attention in Sloane Square and her £1 million weekend pad (ex Virgin Islands registered) in yachtie Cowes,
Very shallow person and very shallow Tories to put up with it.
Cllr Campbell is making heavy going of her new job according to my sources and to the media. Especially social media. This is a person who it seems had no Leadership experience in her previous jobs and dived in full of self belief. In my company we used to refer to these situations as "getting toasted". But all may not be lost. Cllr Campbell has had a baptism of fire and maybe there is now enough humility for her to listen to advice from those who have been there before. In the excellent interview that Tony Blair just did with Peter Hennessy on Radio 4, he said a very interesting thing. "The Civil Service is excellent for steady state situations but when change is required you have to be visionary, resolute and wise". In other words you are on your own.
Recognise this and seek wise counsel Cllr Campbell.
She is an ignorant self absorbed tosh. Wise words will not be listened to unless they come from high heals that lunch at Peter Jones in Armani from Harrods
DL's recent Tv stint was abysmal disaster, not only for her, but also RBKC. They all have to realise that Grenfell was a turning point in RBKC's as well as the Toriies' fortune. Fate has dealt them all a fair card: that of DEATH. If they all fail to take swift and credible action, Grenfell will become Mrs May's Hillsborough... They all have to admit that they have succumbed to the severest sin of them all: AVARICE. Corporate and personal greed. They are all tainted with bribes. Let the cries and screams of incinerating children be indelibly engraved on their amoral consciences - forever more....
It is clear that Grenfell, not own 2 months ago, has crept into the English lexicon, very much like Hillsborough had done all those years ago. It has BECOME Mrs May's Hillsborough. They are all 'Toast' in a different meaning of the word.
Cllr Campbell has not made a single gesture that would be understood by Grenfell survivors that she means business and understands what it is all about. For example:
(i) the ex CEO of the TMO remains at home on gardening leave on full salary of £640k a year. She should fire him. Immediately. The Officers and Hornton Street lawyers will say "you cannot do this". Great. Let him sue for wrongful dismissal.
(ii) the TMO remains the biggest and most insensitive local Government management organisation in the nation. Officers gush about "economies of scale". They forget about people and personal service and understanding. And that word called "empathy". Campbell needs to break up the TMO into smaller units.
(iii) a useless Town Clerk has been drafted in as temporary CEO in Hornton Street. He is hopeless. Out of his depth. Campbell needs to choose an insider, hold his or her hand, encourage and develop them as the new CEO. Whatever happened to the succession plan for the old CEO?
Above all, Campbell needs to disappear from view. Take a back seat. Understand the power of silence. Every time she appears in public she keeps digging that hole......
This testosterone driven ego craves attention more than anything. She will never take a back seat. She has money, but it is not old money. She is one of those desperate Sloane's striving for status. She badly wants a Knighthood but cannot figure out how to get one. In a rash moment she felt that the K&C job might get her noticed and get her there.
Just like disgraced ex Leader Cllr Cockell.
As for as making a difference to the current Hornton Street challenge is concerned, there is no hope. She is out of her depth. The Tories need to wake up and figure out that it is really small time stuff that she will drown herself. The bigger issue is that she will drown the Tories in the Royal Borough too.
But what an opportunity for the right person to shake the tree and make a huge difference! Not only for the Grenfell tragedy but for the way the Council is run.
At times like this you can do anything. If you know what to do and how to behave.
Yes 20:17 Elizabeth Campbell has done the ANYTHING, stepping into the leaders shoes with KTS and Pascal - is anyone watching or listening, does anyone care - RBKC despot - SOMEONE PLEASE HELP US ALL
Just the other day, I visited for the second time in my life, the Nazi extermination camp at Terezin, Czech Republic. Vast imposing complex, at the heart of which is the 'crematorium', where thousands of predominantly Jews were turned into ash. Cold, eerily silent and chilling place. A fleeting thought of Grenfell passed through my mind. But, I instantly realised that there was a fundamental difference in the fleeting comparison: Those cremated at Terezin were sole less, dead bodies, devoid of life and love. Whereas, those cremated at Grenfell, were ALL alive... There wa not the silence of a burning furnace, but the cries and screams of young children being cremated alive. However, a very strange comparison emerged: those at Terezin, were predominantly Jews; those at Grenfell were mainly Muslims... A modern day ethinic cleansing, or genocide. Dear reader, you decide.
They say Grenfell could have happened anywhere - but it didn't - it happened in RBKC KCTMO owned and managed property. RBKC KCTMO provided the perfect set of circumstances for the fire to happen and people to die.
Only those living under RBKC KCTMO ownership and management will know the lengths they will go to cut cost, ignore and dismiss residents concerns and complaints, treat tenants and leaseholders with total contempt and carry on regardless.
At least Campbell has had the guts to go and face the fury of North Kensington residents, generally with very little back up. This contrasts with the woman who is now Chief Executive of the TMO, who had to go mob handed to Silchester. While there, she made it abundantly clear that she has no idea what she is doing and has completely failed to appreciate how much the TMO is loathed and reviled throughout the borough. And can anyone tell me why we are now paying the salaries of two Chief Executives at the TMO?
And Dizzie got a charge telling her Sloane Square and Cowes dinner parties how dreadful the Council peasants in North Kensington are. "Not a single resident offered to open a door for me. Or tip their cap"
The Conservatives need to sort themselves out. There has been a disaster which was not of their making (Grenfell) followed by a second self inflicted disaster (Campbell).
And the whole scenario is built on a poisonous Town Hall culture that was left behind by disgraced ex Leader Cllr Cockell.
Labour will give them a kicking in May next year and unless things change the Tories will become the opposition.
I think that it is unfair to shout that the Conservatives need to sort themselves out. The Grenfell had nothing to do with 'Tories' as such. It was, as said above, corporate and personal greed, nothing to do with politics as such. This contributed to the disaster. Why did not they make a clean sweep of it on fag-seller's departure? Simply, because they all found it convenient to let be - business as usual. Which, sadly for them, had come to an abrupt, unexpected end. I think it will be very difficult to install some semblance of change. Those presently in power are 'toast'. Any suggestions for credible replacements, anyone? Replies on a postcard to our Dame, by the end of September, please.
The current lot in power are not Conservatives at all. They are imposters. Self seeking rodents. The sooner we get a return to Conservative values and true Tories running the Borough the better.
This is a very difficult situation for the Tories to handle. They have the responsibility of Leadership but have failed to find a responsible Leader. They have the duty of care but have lost the fervour of caring. They have the mandate to listen but have lost the art of hearing.
Residents have the power to kick them out at the next Local Election in May and replace with Labour. But there are few signs that Labour would be any better.
There are many frustrated and ashamed Conservatives in the Royal Borough. Deeply ashamed of the depths of degeneration that our Party has sunk to. Grenfell is an opportunity to refresh and regenerate Conservatism in the Royal Borough.
Grenfell Tower Inquiry Terms of Reference Announced
The Government said that the Prime Minister has “accepted in full the recommendations” made by Sir Martin Moore-Bick, the judge leading the inquiry. The recommendations were: The cause and spread of the fire; The design, construction and refurbishment of Grenfell Tower; The scope and adequacy of the relevant regulations relating to high-rise buildings; Whether the relevant legislation and guidance were complied with in the case of Grenfell Tower; The actions of the local authority and other bodies before the tragedy; The response of the London Fire Brigade to the fire and the response of central and local government in the aftermath.
I assume the application to demolish the tower is covered by 'the actions of the local authority....'? It is assumed by some that this was just a red herring, to get the planning for thr KAA through, as otherwise there would never have been adequate space required for emergency services. When the KAA was approved, the 'demolition' was quickly forgotten. However, some claim that demolition was necessary in the refurbishment, which I doubt. Worth looking into, whether any demolition was actually legally required.
Nice job for an IT Forensics expert to come up with the various date/time stamps on various documents, relating to their creation and subsequent 'tampering', perhaps attempting to change these important facts.
RBKC no longer date stamps planning drawings, nor which drawing is proposed and/or approved. However, scores of dated documents and emails etc. will be available for examination.
"Thousands of residents in Kensington and Chelsea are calling on their council to terminate its contract with the organisation that managed Grenfell Tower."
It is simplistic to be the blame on the 'Conservatives'. The Labour councillors were more than happy to take their bloated allowances. Spokesman on this spokesman on that. But they didn't speak. Ridiculous motions in Council that were almost always defeated. Why didn't actually get off their backsides and do something? Just too lazy and complacent.
At KCTMO, the whole lot, as they were all involved in servicing the Grenfell residents and others in the Borough. What is sad that many of them received undisclosed amounts as 'performance bonuses', based on unaudited, unverified figures, massaged to fit the criteria. We might have the right to see these amounts under FOI legislation. Worth the effort to expose these payments, which are nothing but a part of a sordid scam.
RBKC auditing is yet another sick joke. It's supposedly external and independent. In fact it's directly paid for by the Council, using residents' money. Last year the district auditor received objections to RBKC's accounts from a group of residents. The auditor produced a meaningless report, which was rejected by the residents. The auditor promptly threatened the residents with criminal prosecution if they dared to quote his rubbish report. RBKC's mission accomplished. £15,000 of residents' funds flushed down the water closet.
Angry Tory (9.37) talks about the need for Leadership (inspiring? encouraging?) caring and listening in the Royal Borough. There is a local Conservative who does all three of these very well. In spades. Victoria Borwick.
Borwick is also well known and RESPECTED by Officers in Hornton Street. She stands as good a chance as any, and better than most, of getting them to point in a different direction and behave in a different way.
And she also knows her way around City Hall. Knows how it works. At 4.00am on that morning last June, when Grenfell Tower had become a candlestick on fire, she would have called the Mayor of London and called in the Emergency Recovery Group: the task force set up and paid for by all Londoners to cope with exactly the catastrophe that is Grenfell.
Why was the Emergency Recovery Group not called in by Hornton Street? They coped with the Kings Cross Fire, 11/7, and the recent terror attack. They have the equipment, training, organisation and know to manage these recovery situations
Yes I agree with 14:45 and if those who disagree want to do some research they will see that Borwick has been quietly working on behalf of those affected by the fire.
Well whatever she is doing, it has had no effect whatsoever. I just hope she will give evidence to the police and the public inquiry, given that she met the residents twice and they told her all about their problems and fears.
VB is a perfectly nice woman, but decided no one would notice that she was 110% brexiteer in a 69% remain constituency. She doubtless assumed BJ would succeed DC as PM and offer her another job. Unfortunately the 69% did notice and voted accordingly. VB's ability to relate to N. Ken. residents matches her ability to read the voting intentions of S. Ken. residents.
