In other words, that they fulfill these requirements
The Council has stated Merrick Cockell signed a declaration that he was qualified.
This blog has delved deeply into ex Cllr Cockell's nationality status.
Why? Because there is confusion over his nationality during parts of his council career
It was only in 2014 that Merrick Cockell took British citizenship.
Prior to that he was a South African citizen at a time when South Africa was not a Commonwealth member so was not qualified....unless of course, he knows something we don't.
Being very self-important, Cockell may not like impertinent questions but those who voted for him are entitled to know that he was qualified to stand.

Why does not Cockell just tell the truth about his nationality. What is he worried about. Of course, if he has lied intentionally or otherwise it is a serious criminal offence.
ReplyDeleteI have always had doubts about his background
ReplyDeleteHow dare you attack Sir Merrick. I have been proud to call him a friend for many years. And yes, he was also proud to call himself a citizen of South Africa.
ReplyDeleteThe vindictive Mr Downes should halt his campaign. What does he hope to achieve? A prison sentence? Sir Merrick is very upset by these accusations.
The lesson of history is that dodgy people need to lie low. Put your head above the parapet and the odds are it will get shot off. High profile controversies like the Holiday Inn development on Cromwell Road or Heythrop College in Kensington Square can be dangerous to dabble with - even if one is squeaky clean......
DeleteSir Merrick should not get upset by these accusations if he has nothing to hide. I'm sure there has been a misunderstanding somewhere and it can be explained...surely. No point in keeping us in suspense so quicker he publishes his statement the better for all of us who are concerned. Over to you Sir Merrick.
DeleteRory, tread with care, dear. Lest you wish to be tarred with with same brush. What is the old saying? 'Birds of feather, flock together' Frankly, as you have seen here and elsewhere, you have NOTHING to be proud of. On the contrary, it may be a good idea, to disassociate yourself from the slimebag.
DeleteRory, do you know if your dear friend is 'PROTECTED' i.e. untouchable, invincible, he can do no wrong no matter what?
DeleteThis is very heavy stuff. And of course it is "digital". Either ex Cllr Cockell fulfilled the requirements or he did not. No "ifs", no "buts".
ReplyDeleteThe situation needs to be clarified for the residents and voters of the Royal Borough. This is a job for the Chief Executive in Hornton Street, Mr Barry Quirk. HE needs to do his job and be seen to be doing his job.
Mr Quirk? Over to you. Clarify the situation......
Scribe: you are joking, right? Get Dr Quirk to do anything is tantamount to getting urine out of a stone. He was parachuted into RBKC by May, to safe the Tories. And look, what a terrible mess he is done of it. He writes so eloquently about management in his tomes, sadly, far from doing what he preaches. Don't forget that RBKC is the SMALLEST London Borough - and he can't even manage that... so, Scribe, dream on, dear.
DeleteYeah, right on. Apparently, he does not even answer emails addressed to him. These are dealt with by one of his flunkies. Whilst he continues to wallow in his self-deluded grandeur.
DeleteSouth Africa was not in the Commonwealth between 1986-1994
ReplyDeleteWould this be defrauding the British taxpayer?
If Merrick Cockell was not a British Citizen in those years then potentially he committed an offence under the Representation of People's Act
DeleteA crook. Surely not ?
DeleteCrooked Cockle.
DeleteSimmer down, please. You should remember that Pooter was ELECTED by other Councillors, to be their LEADER... One bird voted for another, to ensure that they all remained in the same flock. They are all to blame. Derek Meyers should have a say.
