'Pooter? My old chum, the Dame, says I should not be doing this' |
More intriguingly, being a South African citizen, should he not have just received an honorary knighthood-or none at all seeing as he got that for being a councillor.
Cockell states in this Companies House return that he has South African nationality.
The Dame's understanding is that to be to be a councillor one had to be resident and a Commonwealth citizen.
South Africa was between 1961 and 1994 excluded from membership so the question is this....
'Was Pooter Cockell a councillor in the period of exclusion and was he also a South African citizen'?
If the answer is yes then surely he was disqualified and should never have been a councillor and-consequentially, should never have been knighted?
The Council's legal team needs to give the Dame an answer or she will be contacting Miss Dick, our Met Commissioner.
Dame, yes Cockell was a councillor during the period of South Africa's exclusion
ReplyDeleteIf the Dame is right will Pooter repay what he earned as a councillor during this time plus his expenses?
ReplyDeleteFat chance of that ever happening - would render him a bankrupt, maybe
DeleteSomeone correct me if I'm wrong but I think you cannot be a company director if you are made bankrupt?
Deleteand what about his knightwood? Could it have been obtained wrongly....
ReplyDeleteThat MUST be addressed properly and with due diligence by our Dame. Inform those responsible... soon
DeleteTo qualify as a candidate you must satisfy the following criteria on nomination day and polling day: Be at least 18 years old. Be a British citizen, a qualifying Commonwealth citizen, or a citizen of any member state of the EU
ReplyDeleteUnless the rules were different in 1986 when Cockell was first elected he would not have qualified.
Dame I thought South African citizens could receive only honorary knighthoods. Did Pooter disclose that he was not a UK citizen?
ReplyDeleteOh, dear....it seems that Sir Pooter may not even be a knight of the realm!
Deleteindeed, just a common tosser
DeletePooter is like some shady character from an Edwardian novel. We really know little about him. He is a bit of a chancer
ReplyDeleteHe was knighted in 2010 but previous to that he was S. African so he obviously he switched nationalities to get his K. This then leaves the issue as to whether he served on the Council when SA was not a member of the Commonwealth. This is a question that Doc Quirk needs to reply to
ReplyDeletehe may be a dual national. The question is WHO nominated him for this reward for what?
DeleteDr Quirk to reply? You are joking, right. This man is so, so above himself that it is alleged he does not answer his emails- below him apparently. You may try and I wish you luck
ReplyDeleteI hear Doc Quirk had a bit of a reputation as the Lewisham Lothario....no names: no pack drill!
DeleteSo Quirk drilled a bit?
DeleteIs it a wide spread practice to drill a head in this borough?
DeleteQuirk's drilling has nothing to do with the "head". Head drilling is the specialty of the Fielding-Mellen family. Remember Rock?
DeleteVery true. The Fielding-Mellens are long standing and valued customers.
DeleteHeard on the grapevine, developers/contractors, may do gratis work to the properties of certain officers to encourage the right decision. Has anyone had a new extension or roof recently?
ReplyDeleteThe doctor has two email addresses. The public address is answered by a team of minions with only the most deserving going to the man himself. The second, an amalgam of his name and initials is the one that gets personal attention, if he deems it to be worthy. The day to day operation of the borough falls outside of the “worthy” criteria. Using the borough as his academic plaything does not.
ReplyDeleteCould you please provide me with this email address that gets personal attention? I have sent several emails to the public address and as you say, it is only answered by his minions.
DeleteTime for the Dame to have a quiet word with her friends at the Daily Mail
ReplyDeleteIt would be most satisfying if Cockell is stripped of his Knighthood
DeleteI have written to both the CE of RBK&C and the Head of Governance requesting that they clarify the exact nationality status of Merrick Cockell during the period he was a councillor: Quirk has not responded and based upon his disdain for those who fund his vast salary and pension I am not optimistic!
ReplyDeleteIn the time Cockell was a councillor it is clear that he was a S. African citizen. Could he have had dual citizenship? If he had then he's in the clear. Had he not it raises questions.
Quirk needs to address this matter. If he fails to do so I will escalate it.
Looking forward to hearing your progress.
DeleteQuirk is shaping up to be an underwhelming Chief Executive of the Royal Borough. He and dizzy both spotted a sinking ship with the rats fleeing and saw their opportunity to high jack some space. Opportunities that would otherwise have been beyond their abilities. And of course remain beyond their abilities.
DeleteOf course, Mr Downes does not and never has liked Sir Merrick. He has been behind every move to discredit Merrick and has succeeded in destroying his well deserved peerage.
ReplyDeleteI have little interest in what happens to the wretched Cockell. But Mr Downes is doing a great deal of public good by exposing the sloth and greed of elected Officials in Kensington and Chelsea. It is a signal to others that if they step out of line and abuse their position for personal gain then they will be exposed. The benefits and importance of such vigilance is incalculable.
DeleteThe impact of the Hornet on the climate of opinion in Hornton Street has been immense. It is a slow and painful process but gradually Councillors and Officials are learning that the chances of "getting away with it" are greatly diminished.
Deletere: greatly diminished.... About time.
DeleteLong live Dame!
Well, if I am responsible in any way for ruining this self serving man's chances I am delighted. Cockell is an utter disgrace. Even more disgraceful is that cllrs who should have known better allowed him to remain in power.
ReplyDeleteThere seems to be an overwhelming case that the "air needs to be cleared". Mr Quirk can do this very quickly. But he needs to pull his finger out.
