RUBBISHING OUR STREETS

This council is to be applauded for the high levels of street cleaning.
The teams work hard to clean up behind short-term residents who seem not to give a damn about the simple rules governing rubbish disposal.
There is a limit to what the Council can do.
Even if it goes through bags to identify culprits they are long since gone.
The problem is worsening as more owners use short-term lettings to generate income exacerbated by the loss of caretakers who would normally police waste management in blocks of flats.

We residents need to do our bit to keep the streets clean of rubbish and attendant vermin.

As Christmas approaches the situation will worsen so please come up with ideas to help the Council manage this problem.
When we see culprits we should immediately report them to the Council.

  1. In the image the letting agent is Croft International. Why do they allow their tenants to do this?

  2. This is an issue for residents They need to report culprits. We all know who they are.
These airbnb lets have cleaners coming in and not bothering/knowing collection days.
A few prosecutions with big fines would send a message

  3. In reality the only solution is for anyone who is offended to pick up the rubbish themselves and put it in the communal bins of the flats. They know where the bins are and have keys to open the front doors.

It is called self help. 1000% more effective and efficient than the Nanny state.

    1. So you pracftically become an unpaid cleaner for your neighbour then.

  4. So, resident.
Step 1. You find out to which flat the bags belong
Step 2. You package up the split bags
Step 3. Using the keys provided by the flat owner you take his rubbish down into the
locked basement area...if they indeed have one.
Thank you for your amazingly helpful advice. You have saved us all!

    1. The people who generally get offended live in the block where the rubbish comes from. It is not an ideal solution, but they can pick up the stuff and put it in the rubbish area which they (as neighbours in the flat) have access to.

The owners who sublet for short term lets are generally well known to other owners in the Block of flats. But what can the fed up owners do? Complain to the Managing Agent? (who will write a letter). Complain to the owner? (who probably lives in Saudi Arabia or Hong Kong)

The solution is to legislate against short term lets. A growing number of cities around the world are doing so.

    2. Introduce an extra tax/license fee for short-let to cover the collection of bag left in wrong place? What a good idea! It's a business and residents shouldn't have to over stretch themselves to contribute to their business profit.

I know the problem well. There is a Saudi family in my block who regularly deposit rubbish on the pavement which is their custom at home. The Managing Agent wrote and asked them to stop doing this and the Saudi reported the Agent to the Race Relations Board.

    1. One day in not distant future, when the Sharia law becomes our law, we would have to obey by their custom. May be better to accept the change?

  6. As Abingdon Res says, these people behave here, as they do at home, where there is NOT an efficient collection service. I know, I have seen it. Matter of education and letter rules. The above report RCB is crass and absurd - well, some of the people are also such...

  7. Huge wealth produces a veneer of respectability for these people but scratch an arab and you find a savage. Do not be deceived by "we are respectable persons educated in America"

  8. A wealthy Chinese owner in my complex goes away and his servants throw their rubbish bags over the fence of the neighbouring houses. When the neighbours come to complain the Chinese owners are in Beijing and the other residents take the flak.

When the Chinese owners return and are confronted they just look stupid and pretend not to understand.

    £5 million flat.....

  9. It is hot Chinese money parked in London. The sooner the Government takes away the visas of these people, confiscates the assets, and boots them out, the better. The infidels are destroying our culture.
