EXIT DOOR FAR LEFT....."LESSONS (WON'T) BE LEARNED!

Dear Dame,

Early this morning,   Labour's Emma Dent Coad lost Kensington to Felicity Buchan. This was not unexpected.

The leadership of the Labour Party has lost its way.
They surround themselves with Momentum supporters from outside and ignore local people causing further divisions in North Kensington.

Well, the price to pay for ignoring residents is losing their votes.
Residents living near Grenfell will now have to put up with a Labour group that not only refuses to serve on scrutiny committees but openly snubs and dismisses residents.

Some were surprised to see that Grenfell local bloggers This Is North Kensington who had criticised Labour's refusal to sit on committees were left outside the Town Hall in the cold and rain.
There was a visible far left Momentum presence and not many local residents supporting Labour in the Town Hall at the count.

Inside the Town Hall, some of the Momentum supporters showed themselves to be sore losers by aggressively shouting at other parties when they learned they had lost.

Refusing to listen to constructive criticism from your own supporters gets you nowhere, especially in politics.

Emma Dent Coad has her councillor job to go back to: the people living around Grenfell that EDC says she represents doesn't have much to look forward to.

Now Labour has so much extra time on their hands, perhaps some of them would care to explain why the far left candidate for the "Workers Revolutionary Party" in the picture, is wearing a red rosette?

If this is the way that Labour is going, they cannot blame the Lib Dems or anyone else for taking their votes and support.

Respectfully yours, my esteemed Dame,

  2. EDC is not a creature of Momentum. She was around and looking after Kensington residents long before Momentum was even in nappies.

The Jury is out on Fiona. She still has to prove herself. An ambitious Investment Banker who decided she wants to have a go at politics. Lets see.

    2. 18.04 should stop looking at his/her navel.

The new Conservative MP was Treasurer of the Kensington Association. This is a body that overseas the biggest food banks ever in the poor North Kensington while at the same time spending obscene amounts of money to tart up streets in the rich South with new paving stones. Will she rise above this and become a good representative and champion of residents? Or will she be an ex banker feeding her ego?

You say that Emma Dent Coad is not a creature of Momentum. Shortly after she was elected in 2017, she denied being a member of Momentum, on the Dame's blog, but did have the decency to confirm that she had attended at least one of Momentum's meetings. The cliche

"tell me your company and I'll tell you who you are"

    comes to mind just as

"birds of a feather flock together" is apposite.

May I be as bold as to plagiarise the Good Corbyn, the man of the people, and suggest that "Momentum are Emma Dent Coad's friends."

I wonder if she tried to limit her exposure to Momentum by refusing to join it ( although accepting its aims and values in principle) in order to avoid incurring an electoral disadvantage locally if she were known to be a fully fledged card carrying member of Momentum.

    1. No point trying to bypass Momentum. Its what Labour currently is. The only option is to quit and join the Lib Dems or be an Independednt. And both of these options are suicide. EDC did the sensible thing (like many other good Labour MPs) of staying and living to fight another day.

  4. This is how it should be. I was a counting agent at Mitcham and Morden where the sitting Labour MP, Siobhain McDonagh, retained her seat with an increased majority. McDonagh is highly respected with a reputation for getting things done.
But what was noticeable was the respectful inter-party behaviour....very refreshing and as it should be. No Momentum presence....

  6. EDC did the best she could with the current Labour Party. She is not the only one with a challenge. The new Tory MP for Kensington was the Treasurer of the Kensington Conservative Office. This is an organisation that overseas the biggest foodbanks ever in the poor North of the Borough while huge amounts of money are being spent to tart up and renew pavements in the rich south of Kensington. Will the new MP rise above this stupidity and be a proper, caring representative? Or will she be an ex Banker feeding her ego?

  8. Lots of heeling to do. The new MP needs to wise up fast. The Remain Parties took 52% of the vote. Boris recognises this and in his victory speech after seeing the Queen he invited Remainers to join his effort to close BREXIT. A true act of Leadership. Lord Adonis has already tweeted that "Remainers will become Rejoiners"

The new MP would do well to reach out to EDC

  12. EDC has represented Kensington constituents since 2006 as a Councillor and an MP. 20 years of unbroken service and re elected time and time again.

Momentum was founded in 2015 and is only 4 years old. A ruthless grass roots organisation that has taken control of Labour and destroyed it. EDC, like many Labour MPs past and present has suffered from Momentum. EDC is one of the survivors of Momentum. She is not a creature of Momentum. Nor is she a Marxist, even though she is not a Royalist.

Felicity Buchan is an Investment Banker who volunteered to be Treasurer of the Kensington Conservative Association as a route to being nominated as Conservative candidate for Kensington. She was selected but has no political experience and has never represented constituents in any capacity. Lets see how she develops.

Felicity Buchan has emerged from a local Conservative organisation that is disconnected from most residents and suffers from the plague of monopoly. Dominated by a self serving clique.

Felicity Buchan was elected with a majority of 150 votes. EDC also got 16,600 votes.

    1. Verite- the slicing and dicing continues.14 December 2019 at 09:43

EDC may deny being a Marxist. If she is not a Marxist, she is definitely Marxian. As for Momentum destroying Labour, well Corbyn allowed Momentum to prevail. The Kensington electorate did not want to hear all those proletarians singing, "Oh Jeremy Corbyn.' Corbyn of course loved it, just like any overgrown rebellious schoolboy would. Like most middle-class Marxists, he never got over adolescent rebellion.

Dent Coad repeatedly expressed undying devotion and loyalty to Corbyn.

We know that Dent Coad got 16, 600 votes but she may as well have got no votes because she did not win. Buchan, the Tory, the Tory Investment Banker, Treasurer of the local Tory Association, knocked Dent Coad in to cock hats at the poll.

Buchan won fair and square because people in Kensington did not want Labour. Not only are you slicing and dicing in every way possible, you are now dissecting as well.

    2. A majority of 150 over a vote of 16600 is just that. A majority of 150 over 16600. If you think this is meaningless then you are obviously the worst type of Kensington idiot - a Tory from an expensive school working in an Estate Agency. The original hooray Henry

Unlike the Socialist Councillor, Emma Dent Coad, my parents sent me to a school run by the Council. Thgey were on the social and could not afford Christ's Hospital. I got ten GCSE's at Grade A and three A Levels at college. Emma's children had the privilege of learning to be a "hooray Henry" at Public School.

Dent Coad won the seat in 2017 by just 2O votes, yes just 20 votes but she won fair and square, no bones about it. Buchan won by a greater margin of 150 votes in 2019 which is less meaningless that Dent Coad's victory in 2017.

    4. Fact Checker reckons that EDC is not a marxist. Now that she has lost her seat, she probably regrets giving the impression that she is a marxist.

If she is not a marxist, just what kind of socialist is she?

She told us that she was left wing. I've heard it said that she claimed that she is more than left wing than Corbyn. Corbyn is an intellectual marxist. Collective ownership of the means of production, a command economy and the abolition of class based societies is what it is all about for Jeremy. He is obsessed with foreign policy and the "world socialist order" which puts him firmly in the trotskyist tradition of socialism. He is on record saying that he "got a buzz', like no other "buzz" he had ever had, in Nicaragua during some sort of socialist uprising. I've heard of people getting a "buzz" from sex, rock and roll and even drugs, but a "buzz" on socialism is like getting a "buzz" from cooking on gas. No wonder he never got in. I have only had a buzz from sex. Corbyn's socialist life does not appeal or excite the many or the few.

I would be surprised if EDC is a Maoist. Power comes out of the barrel of a gun doesn't seem like her.

Is Emma a Fabian or Democratic Socialist? Non-Marxist, non- revolutionary, democratic socialism with a market economy with regulatory intervention to achieve greater efficiency and fairness. Not very left wing at all, the socialism of middle class intellectuals and the well to do. Few Fabians are recruited from the ranks of factory workers, railway workers or Tesco shop floor workers.

    8. Very Sad : it's everyone else's fault16 December 2019 at 10:51

Just read the Huff Post. Emma is trying to blame any culprit for her failure on Thursday. Surprisingly, she does not put blame at the Labour Party's door.

      Grow up Emma,

it is not Gyimah's fault you were shown the door, you reported him to the police and everyone knows how strongly you felt, you made sure of that by sounding off about it loudly and often,

it is not Buchan's fault that you were perceived as Marxist, you could have made it clear that you were not Marxist but to do so might have affected your preferment in the Labour Party when Jeremy found out that you were not on side. You could have even threatened to sue if anyone suggested you were Marxist.

it is not the fault of the Monster Raving Loony Party that Jeremy Corbyn's brushes with Anti-Jewishness were called out,

you cannot blame anyone for your loyal and misguided devotion to a loony left Leader, who has Marxist leanings, and who would reck the Country.

Why not blame Jeremy for making claims that everything in the Manifesto was costed. The Institute for Fiscal Studies disagreed with this LIE. If you want to talk about LIES look a little nearer to your ethical Party.

Politics is not for you, I think you would be happier doing something else because you find disappointment very tough and politics is tough when people don't want you anymore.

Hang up your hat, leave the Council and take a world cruise with the House of Commons' severance pay.

  13. Fact Checker tells an interesting story.

The Conservatives ran a brilliant campaign that re arranged the deck chairs and won a majority of 80 seats in Parliament. But the Conservative vote only increased by 1%. At the same time, the Remain Parties got 52% of the vote. This is the political landscape. Boris Johnson has recognised this and already reached out to Remainers. As a result we will have a softer Brexit. The next big signal will be the shape of the Cabinet. How representative will it be?

Felicity Buchan would do well to reach out to Emma Dent Coad who tucked away more than 16000 votes in Kensington. This would be an act of Statesmanship and inclusiveness.

More healing is required in Kensington than in any other British constituency.

  20. Person Familiar With The Situation15 December 2019 at 14:58

The Conservatives won the Parliamentry by election in 2015 with a majority of 8000 after the disgraced Sir Malcolm Rifkin stood down. In an act of sheer complacency there was minimal campaigning by the Conservatives in this "safe" Tory seat in the 2017 election and Labour took the seat with a tiny majority of just 20 votes.

Shocked beyond belief the Kensington Conservative Association got itself into luddite drive for the 2019 General Election. They pre selected a candidate short list that included an investment banker living in Walton street to be the PPC. The near brain dead Association members (most but not all brain dead) saw "one of us" and voted for the banker Felicity Buchan who was also the Association's treasurer. A person with no front line political track record, no ground experience in Kensington and someone who had never set foot in North Kensington which is a different world from JP Morgan and Walton Street.

The shock of the 2017 election result in Kensington meant that the already formidable Conservative election machine was put on steroids to get Buchan past the post. The Tories had six canvassing teams out every day, in every Ward, for months before the election. This huge force feed, produced a tiny Tory majority of 150 votes on 12th December.

The result is a hurricane in the making. The polling result of 16000 Conservative votes representing the wealthy who live in the South of the Borough and 26000 votes against from the deprived who live in the North of the Borough. Kensington is now represented by a Member of Parliament who comes from everything that is despised by the "have nots" and who has no knowledge or feel for the big local issues like Grenfell.

    Another self inflicted wound.

I've always been Labour. I voted for Emma Dent Coad in 2017 even though I do not particularly like her. This time I went to the Polling Station with a very heavy heart. Before I went in, I spoke to some Labour Party people about Corbyn's anti-semitism. They would not have it that Corbyn was anti-semitic and when I said I could give four specific examples of when he had been antisemitic, they told me that they were not going to talk to me. So I gave my vote to Gyimah instead.

  22. Bad losers - (The summonses and writs will fly)16 December 2019 at 17:29

Emma Dent Coad blames Gyimah for not getting in. She wants Gyimah prosecuted. The police are investigating----- She also blames anyone who called her "Marxist" for the loss of her seat. She takes no responsibility for losing the seat - Kids at Public School, double dipping, nastiness to Shaun Bailey, sneering at political opponents.

Former MP for the Don Valley, Caroline Flint, unlike Emma, blames Corbyn and his fudged Brexit policy for not getting in. She condemns Emily Thornberry who Flint says told another Labour MP that Leavers were "stupid." Thornberry, the wife of a High Court Judge, denies this and is taking legal advice.

With a big swing to the Tories in the 2019 election, the Tories won Kensington by 150 votes. Historically, the Tory majority in Kensington has been 8000 plus.

Felicity Buchan did not manage to connect up with residents and voters. Even though an army of volunteers worked their socks off to canvass for her.
