RBKC ENGAGES WITH YOU

Important Invitation 15th February, 18:00, The Small Room, Kensington Town Hall, Hornton Street, W8 7NX

The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea Council has commissioned The Centre for Public Scrutiny and the Democratic Society to deliver an independent review of governance and decision making.

The review is focused on democratic decision-making and aims to provide insight and support as the council looks to engage better with the local community and identify ways to improve its decision-making. The project will aim to produce clear options for the council, providing detailed advice about how they can better work with the local community and structure their decision making in the future.

The scope of the review will include: community engagement in decision making, governance options, ensuring council meetings are effective and the role function and resourcing of oversight and scrutiny.  The review started in October and the final report including findings and recommendations will be published by the end of March 2018.

To help inform this work Demsoc and CfPS are carrying out some targeted community engagement to making sure that the views and opinions of residents and community groups are heard and included as part of the review findings.
They are running a specific workshop for the Kensington Society members and their affiliated resident’s associations on

    1. No need for more consultants and wasting money. The only way to crack this one is inspirational Leadership. Impossible from dizzy lizzie

  3. Could be a disaster. The key point for the consultants to understand is lack of engagement by residents because of years of alienation. Residents have found that years of engagement (even huge efforts) have fallen on deaf ears. "We agreed to listen but not to hear".

Therefore we have stopped wasting our time. And on top of this, for those residents who have tried to persist, the Council has perfected the art of just wearing residents down by filibustering and procrastination.

By definition, this is not an environment where it will be helpful or useful for Consultants to "listen to residents views"

  4. RBKC commissioned The Centre for Public Scrutiny and the Democratic Society? Who are these people? Yet another outfit dreamed up by someone to give the matter some veneer of fairness; legitimacy and fairness. I understand that the closing time for comments is BEFORE the meeting, I would suggest that those with time of their hands spend it in a better way than attending the Town Hall. I, for one suggest the Old Goat...

  5. No one has any faith in the current administration - They Listened but didn't hear ' . People now believe that statement. Ran the Borough like a posh North Korea - and now they want to listen - jog on ! You have abused your privileges and your residents . We don't believe anything you say anymore . Bog off . Enough of our time and lives wasted already - leopards don't change their spots.

RBKC makes me die. They want to engage with the community. This sound likes the sort of nonsense that Lewisham Council embarked upon.
