Sadly, it just a little too complex for her.....
WORKING FROM HOME |
Dearest Dame
As a local resident I seek your advice.
My ward cllr, Paul Warrick seems to be advertising his law practice as being based at 7 Hobury Street.
My neighbour tells me that it's also his home. Does that mean I can run a law firm from my home and invite clients to visit me?
Cllr Warrick is big on planning and planning law so I suppose it means that he is allowed to see clients around his kitchen table?
Yours sincerely
B********y P******s
This is a stupid story to put up on this site – 1,000 of small business are run from homes in K&C. What point are B********y P******s and the Dame trying to make? Are they asking K&C to ban residents running business from home?
ReplyDeleteA question of rates, dear boy. Is Cllr Warwick cheating on his Council Tax?
DeleteTrading on eBay is one thing. But having clients in and out of domestic premises, causing traffic congestion, and diminishing the neighbourhood, is SO downmarket. Public school boys should know better.
DeleteCllr Warwick went to a Grammar School
DeleteTypical small time operator to be found puffing up in Local government. Works at home, and undercuts the competition. Just like Amazon who sell £4 billion in the UK and pay no tax. What is the quality of the Warrick LEGAL advice? Does anyone know? If the Planning Committee is anything to go by, the insect is a disaster
ReplyDeleteSo Warrick can't make it in a proper law firm and is jobbing at home. But at least he is not on benefit.
ReplyDeleteLet the Dame get this clear....being a silly old thing 11:22.
ReplyDeleteDame Enterprises Offshire operates with a staff of three from a discreet mews office for which she pays a rent of £25,000 a year. On top of that she pays £8,000 a year in business rates.
Cllr Warrick runs his law firm from his home and pays just £1,700 a year.
In other words the councillor has a massive overhead advantage over Dame Enterprises Off Shore, Got it now clothhead!
I asked a valid question, as I, like many other people in RBKC I run my business from my home. I use my study as my office for myself and my PA. It’s not disrupting anyone and it’s not coursing any traffic problems. I am not required to pay business rates as the amount of space I use in my home as my office is under there threshold set by the government. I cannot see what difference it makes if Councillor Warrick is working from his study.
DeleteI am sure a “Lady” of your standing has a secretary to look after your diary and correspondence, do they come to your Kensington Mansion each day to work or do you ask them to work form their home?
The Dame take exception to your inferring she is not a "lady"!
DeleteBut she has asked me reply. Your operation is not quite of the scale of a law practice and one assumes that you do host a stream of clients as the highly successful practice of Cllr Warrick.
On your point of staff attending her Kensington home...you are wrong the only servants who attend her there are various domestics and housekeeping staff and her general factotum, the loyal Phelps.
Administrative staff work at her bijou mews office behind her vast and vulgar mansion.
Is Cllr Warwick employing other people at his "offices"? Have Health and Safety made a check? And the Fire Officer? PRIVATE EYE will be very interested to receive information about expected Enforcement Notices.
ReplyDeleteAdvice to Cllr Warwick. Get briefed on the 2006 Act. Fast.
Emergency Lighting. Automatic Fire Alarm system. No open fires. 30 minute fire resistant doors. Three hinges per door. Fire evacuation procedures. Victorian houses in Hobury Street have none of these things. Has Cllr Wawick invested to bring his "offices" up to scratch?
DeleteOf course not. He has an office in the basement with an entrance under the steps. Just like Tony Benn did.
DeleteDoes this mean he will pay CGT when he sells as it's a place of business?
DeleteHe should be paying full business rates on that part of his home that he is using for business purposes. No doubt the Dame's sleuths will check this out?
ReplyDeleteThe question has been asked. A doubt has been created. Cllr Warwick would do well to make a statement that clarifies the situation. We know that he reads this blog. If there is silence from Cllr Warwick (or the busy body Cllr Palmer then readers will draw their own conclusions
ReplyDeleteLets start with the labour party, who are using cllr dent coads social housing flat as an office
ReplyDeleteWhy does Barry Phelps dislike Cllr Warrick so much that he is grassing on him?
ReplyDeleteIt is a long story. Suffice it to say that Cllr Cockell and Cllr Warrick are on different sides of the fence where disgraced ex Cllr Phelps is concerned
DeleteThe problem may not be simple.
ReplyDeleteUnless the law has changed which seems unlikely, if one claims tax relief above the most minimal level for the use of domestic space for commercial activity, CGT is chargeable on a proportion of the profit on the sale of the house, even if it was one's principal home. Cllr Warrwick should consult his solicitor and accountant.
He is his own solicitor. And turns a blind eye to numbers.
DeletePaul Warrick does not do numbers
ReplyDeletePaul warrick a solicitor or barrister.
ReplyDeleteDon't know what type of lawyer he is.
Does anyone know what his qualifications are?
