The Dame About To Bargain hunt in Portobello |
attend yet another PLANNING COMMITTEE Meeting @ 6 for 6.30pm on Tues 6th March @ Kensington Town Hall W8 (opp Ken High St station behind the shops). This latest (3rd) retrospective application for the shop front is truly appalling. RBKC Planning again recommends the Committee to grant permission. If granted, applicants will withdraw their Appeal - preventing a Planning Inspector seeing Travesty Terrace. Everyone please attend. Bring friends & family! Your presence makes all the difference. LONG LIVE PORTOBELLO!"
Portobello is slowly loosing its soul as these 'shops' infiltrate it. It's all the more tragic when you see the confused faces of the tourists who want to see the true portobello only to be faced with a dreadful window full of sewing machines! This is what this and other major companies call 'edgy' .
ReplyDeleteThe old 'edgy' was never knowing what you will find, a sense of community amongst shopkeepers who also took care of local people and who brought life, fun and creativity to the area.
Local people need to show our support for portobello otherwise it will become another exhibitionist road, with nothing in it for local people.
Agreed, if people like Moylan had his way it would look like a Birmingham shopping mall
ReplyDeletewill the Dame herself be at the meeting?
ReplyDeleteWe should all attend the Town Hall at 6.30pm on Tuesday. The All Saints application is first on the agenda - so will be over by about 7.30.
ReplyDeleteRemarkably, however successful they are elsewhere, the new cloned retailers are unsuccessful in Portobello Road. Almost without exception, they regret their leases. Absurdly high expenses are paid in what has always been a one day a week place.
Residents arriving en masse at the Town Hall will encourage the Planning Committee to support Portobello with more than platitudes.
How do you know the retailers regret their leases ?
ReplyDeleteIt hasn't stopped Waitrose from moving in , has it ?
And they're a company that is seriously efficient and does its research on an area before committing itself to a lease.
Maybe you should do some research before you post this drivel in future.

ReplyDeleteDo enlighten us about 'Waitrose moving in' Mr Spammo.
Gratuitously insulting remarks-unless made by Her Dameship-will be deleted.
ReplyDeleteMarion Gettleson is a credit to the community and of course, like all those tell the truth, becomes the object of anger...
Waitrose hasn't moved in.

ReplyDeleteCouncillor
The Dame will not permit crude observations. You will find that in it's history the Dame has deleted just 4/5 comments because they were either defamatory or likely to be in contempt of court. If you behave yourself you will not be moderated. But as is made clear on the Home Page the Dame can moderate

ReplyDeleteI have googled it Mr Spammo,it just says 2 other central London locations.Would have thought HSBC would be too small even for a little Waitrose.
ReplyDeleteBy the way Flappo Spammo if you think turning Portobello into another cloned high street is progress you head is firmly stuck up your own backside
Councillor
ReplyDeleteIf you are not careful the Dame will have to release details of your rather naughty phone calls to far flung parts of the old Empire....now I don't think you would like that would you. Now off you go and don't bother us all, there's a good chap!
HSBC & Waitrose have a 'deal' going on.
ReplyDeleteTwo more shops not on the list.
Work it out...
Even for your pea brains it shouldn't be too much of a stretch.
PB needs all the help it can get , what with the kiss me quick crap and the boring antique junk.
ReplyDeleteA waitrose will put the place firmly on the map.
Then again in the real world , you'd be lucky to get a LIDL opening up in your swamp.
LOL
Wow! Flappo you are clever, inside knowledge of Warren Todd's business deals and everything.
ReplyDeleteIt's nothing to do with WT.
ReplyDeleteIf you knew anything about the real world outside PB you'd realise that.
The big boys have moved in now - and the area won't ever be the same again..
PS
Peter Dixon sends his regards :D
Peter Dixons in Thailand ...oh and guess why.
ReplyDeleteHe probably likes Thai Food and lots of it , he is a big boy after all. ( from what i've heard )
ReplyDeleteWhat else are you insinuating ?
So much for my libellous comments being removed...

Yes it's Flappo Spammo among other various aliases making the provocative comments.
ReplyDeleteExpect more moronic, half witted nonsense any minute now.

ReplyDeleteThe ironic thing is , when you delete a post and not your response the only person you make look stupid is yourself
Nuff said.

ReplyDeleteYou lot really are in for a shock.

Please stop making a fool of yourself.
My family have owned our 7,000 acre estate in Warwickshire for centuries...but we tend not to show off...unlike common little people like you. Now go away to one of your ghastly night clubs
Thx for that info.
ReplyDeleteIt will come in very handy for my mates at the HMRC

Everybody, the offensive posts are from Flappo Spammo.
ReplyDeleteHe/she was banned from the Save PB Facebook page for being a childish half-wit.
Along with Peter Dixon and Van Luu
ReplyDeleteAre they half wits too ?
The only half wit is YOU , pal.
thx for that info.
ReplyDeleteIt will come in very handy for my mates at the HMRC
Have a nice day
I hope you don't expect me to invite 'your mates at HMRC' to my father's house. I fear his Lordship might greet them with a brace of shotguns.Sadly, we are still somewhat snobbish here.
Van who?
ReplyDeleteA thousand thanks to The Dame's admin shielding her readers from garbage. By a remarkable coincidence yesterday morning HM Planning Inspector held a semi-formal hearing into the future of the Admiral Vernon antiques arcade. Only about 25 well informed people attended this technical meeting - 23 of them representing the community. The Inspector was a model of courteous attentiveness. It is fair to say that the public got the better of the debate. However, Planning law is a strange beast & we will have to wait months for the Inspector's judgement.
ReplyDeleteMillions are at stake. The deleted, abusive, comments coincide with the timing of the hearing. It may be that others shared the view that the public did well - hence the cyber bullying.
Some months ago the same pseudonyms, attached to abusive comments, repeatedly appeared on the "Save the Portobello Road Market" campaign facebook wall. Admin barred them all.
I missed the latest comments & they missed their mark. It is very helpful that they provided a wider audience with written evidence of the viciousness at the heart of the threats to Portobello.
Dear Flappo, are you aware of the irony of your last post......no, I wonder why.

ReplyDeleteOh the irony.
