In accordance with the Licensing Act 2003, in order for a representation to be considered relevant, it must relate to the likely effect of the grant of the licence failing to promote one or more of the licensing objectives. The four licensing objectives are as follows:
· the prevention of crime and disorder
· the public safety
· the prevention of public nuisance
· the protection of children from harm
This is Burton Court....a rare oasis of tranquillity amid the bustle of Chelsea. If you live near Burton Court there is trouble ahead!
The Royal Hospital sneakily applied for this licence (details below). And don't think this will be the end of it. Expect further exemptions to be applied for.
Application for the Grant of a Premises Licence consisting of the main grounds and Burton's/Tennis Courts. Permissions sought:
Performance of a play both in and outdoors:
Monday to Sunday: 10:00 - 23:00
Exhibition of films indoors:
Monday to Sunday: 10:00 - 23:00
Indoor sporting events:
Monday to Sunday: 10:00 - 23:00
Boxing or wrestling entertainment both in and outdoors:
Monday to Sunday: 10:00 - 23:00
live music both in and outdoors:
Monday to Sunday: 10:00 - 24:00
Non-standard timings:
On up to a maximum of 30 days per calendar year, the permitted hours for recorded music may be extended as non-standard timings from 0800 hrs to 1000hrs prior to the start of the permitted hours and from 2400 hrs to 0100 hrs the following day at the end of the permitted hours for this type of regulated entertainment provided notice of each occasion has been served on the police and the licencing authority at least 14 days before each occasion and the police have given their prior written consent in each case
If this licence is granted tomorrow this will happen...
- Noise pollution
- Antisocial behaviour from those attending events like boxing and wrestling.
- Vandalism
- Crime
- High levels of traffic
These sorts of events inevitably attract criminal activity.
The police cannot cope with the current high crime level in Chelsea. If granted the police will be swamped.
Putting on these sorts of events that extend into the night and early hours is irresponsible. Families will be affected and petty crime will soar.
THE AREA AROUND BURTON COURT IS DENSELY RESIDENTIAL. THIS LICENCE, IF GRANTED, WILL BLIGHT THE AREA.
You just have until tomorrow to object. Click OBJECT and stop this abuse of our beautiful park.

Deliberately snuck in at election time when they're hoping people are distracted. Not saying they shouldn't be allowed to have events but from morning to late night Monday to Sunday really is taking the pee! How are locals supposed to get any peace and quiet at all? Bonkers.

ReplyDeleteThis is an ill thought out proposal and needs to be stopped. I bought my home in the hope of some kind of peace and tranquility in the Chelsea Oasis. This makes me want to leave this country.

The Royal Hospital is a retirement home and nursing home for some 300 veterans of the British Army. It is an independent charity and needs to cover costs to provide care and accommodation for veterans.
ReplyDeleteDo you live close by? No, though not. Just because it's a charity it does not mean it should be uncharitable to neighbours. Many have young kids. This presents all sorts of dangers and disruption to multiple lives. I am sure the Pensioners would not back this daft proposal

DeleteThe Royal Hospital has always had very generous benfactors.Some balance needs to be brought to this application that satisfys the needs of the local homeowners ,the peace and tranquilty of the Pensioners and the need to raise some money.It may seem to some that we are are 'hoiking' out local values for a couple of quid and perhaps sidelining local concerns.

DeleteThe values of the Royal Hospital Chelsea ( as listed on their website) says includes acting with integrity and treating everyone with decency and care. They also refer to enabling people to have happy healthy and fulfilling lives.

ReplyDeleteA totally inappropriate plan of events for a peaceful residential area, close to a conservation area and a hospital caring for pensioners of war. The whole thing needs to be stopped and re thought out. The disruption, noise, crime, safety risks and antisocial behavior caused by the addition of prolonged available sale of alcohol will cause huge disruption and damage to this community. There are other ways to make money to support the hospital and its charity. Do not destroy a peaceful part of the royal borough by allowing this application. It must be stopped.

ReplyDeleteThis plan is totally unacceptable in such a peaceful residential area, how can this be approved, everyone must insist this is rejected. Apart from all the points raised above it will also devalue the area and people will start to move out. Just terrible for the community.
ReplyDeleteThis is the slippery slope and clearly an application made by those representing the hospital who don't live on the streets around Burton Court. I see empty beer bottles now along my street overlooking Burton Court but how many more will we find if this application is successful? Not to mention the late night drunken revelry of people heading to the King's Road to catch public transport home. This is a nonsense and cannot be allowed to go ahead.

DeleteI think there is some misunderstanding here. This is not an application to sell alcohol, these 'Entertainments' must be licenced, as possibly undesirable even without alcohol. An alcohol licence could be applied for separately.
ReplyDeleteHas anyone read what their various licences entitle them to do already? Basically all of this save for boxing, which is common in the military, small scale boxing events. So they could do all of what you are worried about and do so without any issue?
