IN DEFENCE OF LAMMY

Corbyn's people soon savaged David Lammy for his sane and sensible assessment of Thatcher. She had something else lacking in today's leaders.....courage.

As a 'young thing' many years ago the Dame was ordered to go to Birmingham New St and collect Mrs Thatcher. She was then 12 years away from becoming PM.

Arriving in  Coventry Mrs T was greeted by a horde of  Socialist Workers Group 'activists'.

They swore and cursed at her.  The Dame tried to commiserate saying how awful the experience was.

Her reply and look are forever etched on the Dame's mind. "My dear, when they shout and scream at me it means they are frightened of me."

Leaders of today want to be loved by all: it just doesn't work.

    1. In an election year, the aim of this appreciation of the late Tory prime minister is to reassure millions of wavering Conservative voters that Labour is a respectable social democratic party, fit for government and no longer under the sway of hard left, Thatcher-hating idealogues.

    3. When I talk privately to long-term Tories their fighting spirit seems to have sapped away, most seem resigned to an historic wipe-out in the autumn, I’ve never seen their morale so shattered.

  4. Reported in The Jewish News on 19 March 2024, Labour shadow foreign secretary David Lammy told the Commons: “Famine in Gaza is imminent, half the population is expected to face catastrophic levels of hunger, the highest number of people ever recorded under this system. Only twice in 20 years have famine conditions been reached.

“But what distinguishes the horror in Gaza from what has come before is this is not driven by drought or natural disaster – it is man-made. It is the consequences of war, it is the consequence of aid that is available not reaching those who need it. Food is piled up in trucks just a few kilometres away, while children in Gaza are starving. It’s unbearable, and it must not go on.

“International law is clear, Israel has an obligation to ensure the provision of aid, the binding measures ordered by the ICJ (International Court of Justice) require this.”

  5. As a student in 1969 I went to a meeting addressed by Alec Douglas Hulme. Someone at the back shouted “Look at him - born to rule”.

    “YES, that’s right” he replied!

    2. When he was 14 my brother was seriously ill with osteomylitis. He was bedbound for months and got very down. Douglas Hume has the same disease
My mother wrote to Lady Douglas Hume wondering if her husband would write an encouraging letter to my brother. Despite being PM he wrote in his own hand a one page letter of encouragement. My family were very ordinary with no connections. Douglas Hume was a very decent human being.

  6. Thatcher turned on Britons, destroyed the working class & allowed Falklands war to happen because of her penny pinching!

Enriched polish coal while destroying British industry for private vultures.

    That's not patriotic is it?!
