SUTTON ESTATE SAVED FROM DEMOLITION

SAVED!!

Clarion has gone back on proposals to demolish 383 flats on the estate and will now carry out much-needed improvements to the majority of homes and bring empty properties back into use.
It announced the decision today, six months after Housing Secretary, James Brokenshire rejected Clarion's vandalistic plans saying there would be an unacceptable loss of social housing.
The man who has tirelessly led the fight to save Sutton Estate is Cllr. Ian Henderson.
Ian has been like a dog with a bone and never gave up even when the omens looked bad.
Dog with Bone!

Ian had this to say:
"we welcome the news that the Sutton Estate is not to be demolished. This is a victory for the entire Chelsea community who stood shoulder to shoulder with us irrespective of their economic position.
This was morally  the right thing to do  and we now look forward to having proper resident engagement with Clarion and the Council to make Chelsea a better place for us all. Two victories in Chelsea , one cup and one housing estate , not bad !"

There is another lesson to be learned here.
In recent years housing associations have become avaricious and distracted from their historic role.
The CEO of Clarion was being paid around £500,000 a year. He began to think he was a high flying property developer instead of a humbe housing manager who got lucky with a parcel of ungeared assets.

    1. The sitting MP is Greg Hands, who is indeed oblivious of much of what goes on. On the other hand the MP for Kensington was more outspoken on this campaign.

    2. Ian Henderson should be an MP. He won't unseat Hands in Chelsea and Fulham but he could do well in Kensington.
