THE QUEEN OF POLITICAL PLATITUDES!

The Dame upsets the leader

The Dame was having cocktails at the Duchess of W********-P*******g rather run down duplex in Ennismore Gardens when she espied Cllr Dizzy Lizzy Campbell.

When the Dame asked Dizzy was up to she looked very solemn and said, " I want to see a deep rooted change of syle, culture and approach".

The Dame was terribly impressed and that clearly got Dizzy really going. She went on to lecture the Dame with her vision  of a council, 'caring, capable and connected to residents.'

When the Dame asked how that bold ambition tallied with her record of dealing with the transport of vulnerable children and the closure of Thamesbrook Care Home the leader tuned on her heel and stalked off....

  1. "Caring, capable and connected to residents".

These words were written down by the Dizzie's crisis management consultants who she is paying £50k a month. They have told her to shout the words at every opportunity. It is the new Hornton Street mantra.

    4. Connected to residents hah. She hid round the corner when there was a vigil for Grenfell, preferring to go on the telly . Lots of work coming up for Lizzie as Beetle-juices' wife in the forthcoming Halloween celebrations.

  2. I hear that a huge new recruitment programme is underway to build Quirky's Empire. Nothing like a crisis for the bureaucrats to mouth those well rehearsed words: "We need more staff". Grenfell is a gift from heaven. Chief Executive Quirk is expanding Hornton Street by nearly 200 new jobs. Thats £20 million a year.

This is on top of 200 new luxury flats at £1 million a time. Thats another £200 million. Annual Service charges of £15k per flat. A mere £3 million. One year rent holiday for the Lancaster West Estate. Another £8 million?

Watch out Council Tax payers. HUGE rate increase coming just in time for the Local Council elections in May 2018. Will the Tories fudge the books and try to delay announcing the increase until after the election? Of course they will.

£300 million overtaxing in the reserves is being blown at a phenomenal rate.

Hornton Street is rudderless. Out of control. No political common sense. Dizzie is puffing at every opportunity, in panic mode to throw money at a rotten system, and new boy Quirky rubbing his hands. No one fighting central Government for funds and backing local Council Tax payers. Of course not. Dizzie is buying time so that she can dress up and attend "hearings" and rabbit on to her "in crowd" at the Sloane Square dinner parties.

    Pass the sick bag.

    1. She's been saying this nonsense since she started. We've given her a chance. Her actions are the opposite of her words. The woman is utterly unconvincing. She can barely hide her contempt for the people of North Kensington, which only becomes more apparent with every day that passes.

  4. Councillor Kim Taylor-Smith, deputy leader of Kensington and Chelsea council, told the Guardian: “Kensington and Chelsea council has committed to working closely with the community"

What were these turkey Councillors doing before? What do they think they were elected to do? Why does it take a fire disaster to produce these words?

The Tory group need to be torched.

  5. One reason why 200 more staff are needed is because Merrick Cockell denuded RBKC of competent officers during his Tri-borough vanity project. The absence of efficient staff is why there was no coherent response from the council to the Grenfell fire. proper, well-trained officers are desperately needed.

  6. Re: Anon 8:37: 200 staff may be needed. NOT in addition to the existing dross, but to REPLACE IT. Sadly, though, they will come from the same Local Government employees' mega-swamp. What is likely to change? NIXIE. Business as usual. Don't delude yourself, my human friends, RBKC intends to do so.. until next election. At that time you will all have a chance to effect a change. Until than, just grind your teeth and put up with the crappy rhetoric.

The idea of recruiting 200 extra staff to cope with Grenfell is strange. It will take nine months to one year to establish a new unit. Time needed to advertise jobs, conduct interviews, make offers, give notice, to establish facilities. By the time this is done the purpose for setting up the unit will have passed. And the best people looking for new challenges will hesitate about joining RBKC.

If existing resources in Hornton Street cannot cope and new skills, know how, and attitudes are required then the task should be outsourced immediately to disaster recovery experts. For example the Red Cross or The Disaster Recovery Unit of the GLA - set up by the Mayor for precisely this sort of situation.

If the attitude and approach of existing staff are not suitable for the long term task of local Government in Hornton Street then the solution is NOT to build Empires and overstaff. Organisation re engineering, with existing, staff is required. This requires Leadership. A Chairman and CEO (or Civic Leader and Town Clerk) are the people to make this happen.

And setting up a new unit like this alongside existing staff is a vote of no confidence by the CEO in his people. Morale will plummet and service levels will evaporate.

It sounds like two new recruits are required. A new Leader and a new CEO. Not 200 new staff.

Every single initiative that has been announced fails the test of management.

    1. This is the worst king of Empire building by the new Chief Executive, Mr Quirk. In normal circumstances the wisdom of the Chairman (Dizzie) would be deployed with a gentle "not on your life".

Unfortunately the long suffering Council Tax payers of the Royal Borough are suffering from a powerful dose of the blind leading the blind.

It is all about any excuse to splurge, splurge, splurge......

  9. Reading some of these comments one would think the Grenfell Fire has never happened. Do people not understand that the Grenfell recovery is a massive job? Once the insurance claims come in, the borough will be bankrupt and the government will have to take over. Those who worry that they will get away with a tiny increase in their unbelievably low Council Tax are in cloud cuckoo land. This is the consequence of persistently voting in corrupt Tory councillors.

    1. Oh, please. Labour councillors and councils are just as corrupt. Stop being an ahole

    2. Indeed - talking of insurances. Should any of the residents have household insurance, it would be automatically invalidated, as one of the required conditions is that the building is safe, which it was not. So, the insurance companies will no be obliged to pay out, But RBKC will be, hence, I guess your mention of insurance.

  10. Cllr Campbell is fatuous. She has, and continues, to let down the Borough, the Conservative Party, and residents. It is byond comprehension why the Tory Group in Hornton Street continue to support her.

And pure political expediency why Central Office has not booted her out.

  12. The BLIND is leading the blind. Dizzy Lizzy and Quirky have NOT got a clue. There is not a single person/entity in the UK with the expertise to deal with an aftermath of such a preventable human disaster. There is NO precedent. Not even in the Great Fire of London or WW2 were so many people cremated alive in one place.

  13. Mother FATE has dealt RBKC a just, but very unexpected card: The card of DEATH. Not only death of so many people, but Death of the Council itself. Grenfell is for RBKC what Hillsborough was and is for Liverpool. Indelibly engraved in the minds of the Nation.

    Dear Member

I am writing to you to explain why the Board has taken the decision not recommend tha thou got for the resolution that will bering the TMO to an end.

It is with a heavy heart that we have come to this decision. But the Council and the Government have made it clear that here is no role for us following the tragedy in which many of our friends and neighbours died and caused so much trauma to whose who remain. We know that here is nothing we can do or say that will lessen the grief or diminish the tragedy and we will be observing a two minute silence at the start of the meeting.

Our relationship with the Council is governed by a Modular Management Agreement (MMA), which gives us, the residents, the right to manage our homes and that agreement can only be ended by your (our members) say so. The Council has made it clear that they want the agreement to need at a time when they have reviewed the way its properties are managed. They will not financially supper the continuation of the TMO after that.

If we do not agree to the resolution then without that financial support the TMO could quickly become insolvent and wound up with the lose of services and jobs.

We believe that it is important for the benefit of our residents that the services are transferred to someone else as soon as consultation is completed with our residents and the new manager is ready.

The Council will have to consult with all residents on the different options for management in the future. Any option that is chosen will take time to put in to effect.

We want to ensure that b y working with the Council your TMO will still be able to properly a mange and maintain your homes.

We believe that the process will take some months so we cannot give an exact date when the management agreement will end; there needs to be time for the Council's options to be discussed, proper consultation and completion of the legal arrangements.

The resolution we have proposed makes your instruction clear that we must terminate the MMA at that point.

As the constitution stands, when the management agreement ends our company ceases to exist. But if we stopped like that we would damage the public inquiry (as we could not answer questions) and risk damaging the rights of those who need us to be a party in legal actions. That should not be our legacy.

If we are going to be responsible we need to change our constitution. I am therefore recommending that you vote for the changes included in this pack, which simply mean that the Council becomes the sole member when the management agreement ends and is able to appoint members to our Board before that point, if we are unable to achieve a quorate Board Meeting, so the TMO can continue to operate. A full expiation is given in your pack.

I know that some of you will be disappointed that we are recommending you support these resolutions ager many year sod delivering services. The Council stated in its July 2017 report for tis Scrutiny Committee that "the TMO continues to be an effective partner in delivery the Council's objectives and aspirations for the housing stock and residents across a range of strategic functions".

I can assure you that we have not make these decisions lightly. We have considered all options and I hope that you will agree that this is the only way forward given the tragic events.

I do hope you will be able to support the resolutions we are asking you to approve.

    Yours sincerely

    FAY

Kensington & Chelsea Council terminates contract with Grenfell Tower managers

Kensington & Chelsea RLBC has decided to terminate its contract with the arms-length organisation that managed the Grenfell Tower, where 80 people died in a deadly blaze in June.

At a meeting yesterday, the council’s deputy leader and lead member for Grenfell recovery, housing and property said that trust between the Kensington and Chelsea Tenant Management Organisation (KCTMO) and its tenants had completely broken down.

Kim Taylor-Smith said that the KCTMO should be dismantled entirely and replaced.

Cllr Taylor-Smith said: ‘We are looking at the options for the future management of our housing, and we will work closely with tenants, leaseholders, resident associations and other groups.

'Residents of the council, the Government and the KCTMO have come to the conclusion that after the tragedy of Grenfell the KCTMO no longer has the trust of the borough.

‘In light of this, we are working with the KCTMO to terminate the contract with the council.’

Cllr Taylor-Smith added that the council wanted to create a ‘resident-focused’ model to manage its housing stock.
