TOWN HALL SHOULD NOT BE USED FOR POLITICAL MEETINGS

PLANNING TO USE OUR TOWN HALL

The Dame has received this email which is clearly an attempt to cause trouble-or mischievous making...more likely. The Dame's feeling is that the Hall has never been used for political meetings and that tradition should continue. There are many other venues that Ukip can use.

Dear Madam

As a loyal Conservative of many years standing I hear from my neighbour in the country that Ukip plan to book the main hall at the Town Hall for a large meeting which will be addressed by the ubiquitous Mr Farage.

From what I hear the ‘rally’ is planned for late October.
I think that no political party should be allowed to use council facilities in this way.

I hope that councilors will bar Ukip from use of the hall.
It was not intended for political use and it is clearly an attempt to embarrass the council.

With regards

Anthony Backhurst

  1. I don't think it can be true. Farage would not dare

  2. Why not? Good for UKIP to get used to the Town Hall. They will be there sooner than later anyway

  3. The Dame should keep her views about Ukip to herself. She runs a good blog but it is not for her to say who, or who should not be using the Town Hall. That is up to the Majority Group.
Frankly, why cant't Ukip use it? After all, the local Conservative Party has always done so

  4. Yes, it will take 900 people and Farage can use it to recruit potential candidates. Better hide the Mayoral Bentley....if he see it he will have a real go!!!
    VOTE UKIP

  5. Trying to ban political meetings - Mr Anthony Backhurst is showing all the signs of a Fascist and the Hornet is more guilty for repeating them.

    1. The Dame accepts the well earned rebuke. She has also been informed that the Conservative Party has used the Hall for meetings so thus there is no reason to prevent the Ukip booking.
Judging by previous Farage meetings the Hall may be too small.

  6. I understand the Tory Party pays the full rate to hire the Town Hall for meetings. If UKIP, Labour or the LibDems would like to do the same that's good news for the rate payer.

  7. We will be taking the Main Hall at the Town Hall sometime in the autumn and as usual, whenever Nigel speaks there is standing room only. The event will be heavily promoted and Nigel is looking forward to using the occasion to recruit candidates to stand in May 2014. No one should think we will get control but we intend to capitalise on our recent local government successes.
Nigel has already said that K&C is a prime target.

  8. Apart from its policies, my main problem with UKIP is that it's all about Farage. It's not a political party at all but, like Boris. is proving a very saleable product indeed.

    1. To a agree that will always be an issue with nascent parties....but we need to see Ukip for want is at this important point in time. It has pushed the three other parties in ways never thought possible so that is a huge thing. I will vote Ukip of only to keep up the pressure
