SIR POOTER COCKELL GIVES FEILDING-MELLEN £2.3 MILLION!

The Dame thinks finding work for idle hands is truly laudable…but when the work involves giving the foppish Cllr Rock Feilding Mellen £2.3 million of our money to play with her hackles rise!
CLLR FEILDING MELLEN
So what is Rock going to spend the money on? Well, it seems he and officers will be giving our money to voluntary organisations with a 'sustainable business plan'...
Here is the problem….. Rock, like his much loved leader, Pooter Cockell, has nil business experience. Entrusting him to select potential investment winners is a recipe for another Chelsea Care or Wedge…both of which have badly burnt taxpayers’ fingers.
The Dame is a great believer in minimalist Government. The market (competition, experts, customers) is the best way to manage money efficiently. Governments should stay out of business and local Government in particular should stick to clearing dustbins and sweeping the parks. £2.3 million is an enormous amount of money. And a tin pot councillor is growing his empire supported by a tin pot dictator. (Last year our "Rock" was given £2.1 million to play with). If the Council judges that it has a role to stimulate the economy (and the Dame strongly objects to this) then the £2.3 million should be given to Angels/Venture Capital organisations to invest. Either to co invest or be paid a fee to invest in sectors determined by the Council. The Angels know the ropes. It is their money on the line. Leave the analysis and Governance to the experts. The best mechanism would be to divide the money between two or three Angels and judge their effectiveness at the end of each year. And base next year's award on performance. This way Cllr Rock can still exercise power and build his ego which is what this is all about.

But for goodness sake, no more Chelsea Cares! No more WEDGES! And certainly no more council tax given to a Councillor who is still wet behind the ears.

The Dame has been corrected...

  1. Sadly the Dame is missing the true point of this story. This money is money that is allocated annually to local voluntary organisations, such as the Citizens' Advice Bureau, Age Concern and the Volunteer Bureau, which support vulnerable and elderly residents at a much lower cost, often through unpaid volunteers, than if the work were done in-house by Council officers - in effect the Big Society in action. What is scandalous about Rock's proposals is that he will be cutting these decent, hard-working voluntary organisations and handing out largesse instead to competing vanity projects run by the friends of local Tory grandees.

  1. This staggering news. A recession is on. Cuts left, right and down the line. But huge handouts to a novice to play with. It is beyond belief

    1. And yet they turn their backs on local housing association charities who will in the end get fed up with the lack of support and move their business elsewhere. Maybe that is the councils aim.

  5. Why is Pooter so fixated on the Mellen child? The guy is hardly out of the pram. He has no track record. But the Leader gives him £ millions of tax payers cash to play with. In time the boy may become successful and useful. But lets take one step at a time

    1. There might be a very good reason why Sir Merrick is so supportive of this Councillor. Has anybody any suggestions why?

  6. Another excellent exposure of the incompetence of the Leader.
A naive and poor decision which emphasizes why Sir Merrick is a liability to the Tories and should be replaced. I just wish the Councillors apply a little pressure because they are all being tarnished with the same cloth. Although Sir Merrick has been Leader for fourteen years he still has a lot to learn; Sir Merrick's continued presence is a clear breach of the democratic process. Sir Merrick continues to rile the residents of RBK&C and yet how do we get rid of him?

  7. Dear Hornet,

I am a resident of Chelsea and have been reading your web site for a few weeks. I find your stories interesting though most do not affect me. I met one of the Tory councillors at a drinks party tonight and I asked him about you. He said that your email address was used by pedophiles and you have never denied it.

Can you please either deny the story or explain this serious accusation.

  8. The Dame assumes you had the grave misfortune to meet the mad and very odd Cllr Palmer.
Poor Palmer is a sad fellow. The only time Pooter showed judgment was excluding him from high office. He is the resident buffoon...a suitable position.
Now turning to his bizarre accusation....perhaps Palmer is getting confused by the emails that his great friend and colleague, ex Cllr and Mayor Phelps, sent out, on the council server, of images of extremely young boys, with salacious and sexually suggestive captions....or perhaps he means emails sent by his other great friend and ex colleague, the convicted possessor of child pornography, ex Cllr Lamont or could it be the recipient of ex Cllr Phelps disgusting emails, ex Cllr Daley.
So you see with friends such as these it easy to see that for an idiot like Palmer becomes confused about emails. Why not ask Mr Palmer why he refuses to take his stupid accusation to the police?
There are are two other cllrs with a taste for under age boys...it seems a problem for our local cllrs

    Tids
I heard that Cllr Cockell has tasked Cllr Palmer with the destruction of the Hornet. He has failed and flails around making strange accusations which no one except himself take seriously. It's all a bit sad really. I was having my hair done the other day and everybody was talking about the Hornet. Please do tell all your friends to read it because it is the best way of exposing these people. I think it was the Dame who exposed Cllr Phelps and forced him to resign his pornographic emails...disgusting man.
    Keep reading it is terrific

No, go off an organise some more abortive petitions!!!

Now children, do you see how that silly Palmer has distracted our gracious Dame and readers from the subject to hand and centred our attention on himself?

This is his game. It is not a nice game.

Can we please revert to Pooter's unfathomable obsession with Rock FM?

Rockis good looking in a Byronic way and Pooter likes mixing with the 'gentry'.
I heard that he has even gone to the West London Shooting School ready for an invite
to a Shooting Weekend at Rock's step pa!

  13. I would not give Cllr fielding Mellen my children's pocket money to look after. He is an inexperienced nob who despises poor people.
Not what the Borough needs at all.

  15. Something that I have been for sometime fascinated with is whether "Rock" as a christian name is a name in it's own right or is it an abbreviation or another one of those "cool" names rather like Chelsea and Brooklyn. The only other Rock I can think of is Rock Hudson; please would somebody enlighten me!
