NEW LEADER-FIXED TERM?

The Dames' loyal and lucid readers have great insights.
Draycott, a 'fave' of the Dame made this pertinent comment.
It is an excellent and thought provoking one.....

The Dame hopes it will stimulate some scintillating and constructive comments...

Draycott wrote....
"It would be so much easier if the leader was restricted to a maximum of two terms; this would encourage greater democracy within RBK&C. May be the new leader as part of his or her manifesto could introduce fix terms, even dare I say it for not only just the leader but all councillors. In my view this is the only way forward to encourage greater accountability within RBK&C and discourages complacency. Fix terms would be far fairer to everyone as it gives more people a chance to serve their community. Some of the councillors have been in office for well over twenty years which is utterly ridiculous."

    1. Unfortunately for you; it is not from a fake person at all, someone who is actually very real indeed!

Please try to make a meaningful and intelligent contribution to this important debate rather than behaving like a silly billy.
The Dame knows exactly who Draycott is. You need to reflect on why you so devotedly read the wisdom of the Dame if you think it 'fake'.
The Dame and her team are well entrenched in the local community: it might anger you.....but you need to accept it.

    1. It is fake because you are fake.
It is fake because the stories you write are fake.
It is fake because the people who write comments on this blog are fake.

  4. A fixed term is a very good idea. The Americans have it for their President and it has stood the test of time. In a monopoly Council like K&C (demographics guarantee a Conservative vote) it would be a huge safeguard against the "corruption of power"

  5. A fixed term is one of the checks and balances for local government suggested by Ken Clarke. Another idea of his is Chairmen of Scrutiny Committees elected by secret ballot of all Councillors. All good, simple stuff.

  7. 01:16 in the morning!! You must be most unwell to be so excited....1171885 means that there are quite a few fake readers! I will have a word with Doc 'Fracker' Tannock to see if he can assist you and your disturbed state

  8. With the tools you can bring to bear, it would be like asking turkeys to vote for Christmas :(

Yet another opportunity to rise up, register, and run a Consult the People campaign, but I can't do that with only 14 voters registering... mainly in Ireland :(

    1. Dear Mr Le Brocquy,

Thank you for confirming that the readership of this blog is very small (even though some may point to a questionable counter).

I have always thought that with the exception of you, the readership is a few anoraks (including myself) and all the editorials and comments are made by the same people who post under false id's. Until I hear other wise with proof, I think that is the best way to progress.

If you want to get your message across I suggest the K&C Chronicle.

    2. Dear Cllr Palmer
What stirs you to this hatred of an innocent blog which allows hundreds of people a month to learn about the 'goings on' in our council? This is a council which abhors transparency so the Dame and her co-writers do an inestimable service to democracy. Now you may like the scrutiny....and that would be understandable but when you so desperately attack the Hornet you just confirm your fear of it's influence. All you do by levelling these silly charges is embarrass yourself. And by the way have you sorted out those Australian telephone charges yet? How does the Dame know who you are? Simple...your atrocious spelling...'otherwise' not other wise!!

    3. I suspect, Palmer, the Dame is being kind when she says...now you may like the scrutiny...knowing about issues with overseas phone calls she probably meant 'now you may not like'....such a sweet old thing. But what are all these phone calls? Maybe there should be something on your council training website abut use of phones...hahaha

    6. Excellent that Palmer is putting on these unpleasant postings. He is about to try to get himself a safe seat away from St Charles before the voters of St Charles kick him out and get someone in who is interested in them instead. The selection committees in the 'safe wards' can now clearly see what they would be getting. What is all this talk about telephone calls? Councillor Palmer please explain.

  9. Would the Dame be happy to provide space for Cllr Palmer to explain all these mysterious references to international phone calls to OZ. Was there an 'issue' over them? We should be told Dame. You know much more than you are letting on...

  10. Alas, even the Dame herself is not immune to the odd intrusive apostrophe.

    1. Yes, you are right...but with such a huge workload it is sometimes impossible for her to hide her ignorance.

  11. I think we are moving away from the original posting; spending too much time being worried about Matthew Palmer. I am far more interested in seeing an efficient, honest and erstwhile team at Hornton Street to represent and protect the interests of the residents of Chelsea and Kensington. I would tend to favour prospective candidates for Councillors (or leaders) who are established in the Royal Borough, have an established record for sound judgement, proven integrity and experienced in life. What I do not wish to encourage are go getters and those who are only interested in their own self promotion. Sadly the current council has far too many inexperienced career minded go getters who only see "serving" on the council as another tick on their CV and see RBK&C as just a stepping stone to greater things. It is just not good enough!
