MR GRAHAM'S BURROW

Here is a little about the elusive and mysterious Mr Graham....
Mr. Graham, a seventy five year old Ottawa native made his fortune building telecommunications systems throughout Britain and North America, including the now-defunct Canadian company Cablecasting Limited.

For four years in the 1980s, he was the third husband of Barbara Amiel, the current wife of disgraced media baron Conrad Black.
Now this is the interesting bit. Mr Graham has a huge property portfolio. It ranges from chunks of the billionaire playgrounds of St Barth and St Tropez to a big spread in Canada.
St Barths...one of his other homes
It is difficult to know the tax status enjoyed by Mr Graham, but assuming he is not a UK taxpayer, it means Mr Graham will only be able to enjoy his  new thirty bedroomed subterranean
-->mansion for just ninety days a year!
For a single, elderly man, living on his own, it could be a very lonely existence. He will certainly be rattling around......unless of course, he plans to trade the Old Court House on....

Were he to do so-with the proposed expansion- The Old Court House could be worth around £90 million....not such a bad deal for Mr Graham, but a nightmare for his neighbours!

  3. Do as I say, not as we do ..minions strike back. Golly gee, such foretelling reminds me of Camping legends. You know them.. raptures, fire and brimstone, terminator 2.
With the coming decades, each morning's paper will revive us as we sip the juniper and shake our heads in retrospect, perfusing every word - 'we knew David, we knew'. But will the decades come, was Daniel really just a Great Disappointment, will the whole district be 'burned-over'? Oh sweet marriage of my brothers, sweet Anise, sweet forever, save me from the yersin-mongers, the isaacs, the YEC's and from the 21st of next month

  5. It would appear that 18:24 is still 'tripping'
Can anyone make sense of what she has written?

    1. Yes it makes sense - read the doomsayers of 7th November 09:40/10:50/15:20 in blog archive "daily mail slams basement plans'.

    2. ...then put your thinking caps on. But then comments such as 17:32 'it pays to know your enemy' may indicate the temporary loss of a cap.
Have ever met David or is it just a knee-jerk reaction laden with James 3v14?

    1. Honoré de Balzac was an inspiration for many and still is - "Envy is the most stupid of vices, for there is no single advantage to be gained from it".

Be proactive. David's wish in his older years is to make major changes to a house that belongs to him - that is the capitalist way. The local community need to engage with him in order that he can understand their ongoing concerns. It does no good to make flippant remarks against a person because you disagree with them. I do hope your heart can find peace.

  7. I really don't think Balzac would find 'David' and his plans at all attractive. Were 'David' transposed to Balzac's time I am sure that great writer would have had little good to say about him and his greedy, disruptive plans.
The capitalist way should not just be looking after your own greedy interests to the detriment of other residents and business in the area. For 'David' to claim that his existing 12 bedroom house is jut too small for his needs tells us much about the man..
I do hope your heart can find peace....doubtful when one is having to endure 4 years of disruption to my right to enjoy my property quietly. You sound just a little pretentious, but then you probably live well out of earshot of 'David' little capitalistic, money making scheme!

  8. So you are intimate with the details of his household! Is it April 1st already?
I am trying not to laugh, but just look around the area... a bastion of conservative dogma. It is within David's right (council planning law) to make alterations to his domecile for personal use and personal monetary gain. That same right belongs with you. You need to engage with the council on the environmental issues not lambaste David.

When I got up today it was still a democracy, or am I wrong! Or is it because David is Canadian? Or could it be that his is bigger than yours?

  9. No,it is not April 1...do you not have a calender?

I never like to engage with those, like Cllr Palmer, who have issues over spelling...I always suspect that they are either lazy-because they don't use spellcheck...or ignorant because they pretentiously quote Balzac but spell domicile and lambast incorrectly...

    1. It may not be April 1st, but yes you are a fool.. and a pompous one at that.
I can only hope the tremors from David's excavations shake you into sensibility. But then I am not so sure as there is no fool like an old fool.

    2. I hope....now that you have that off your chest, you will feel better. I very much suspect that 'David' may not be given the opportunity to do anything that might affect my sensibilities.
Now go and sit down with a nice pot of tea: it will make you feel better

    3. Yes thank you I enjoyed my cup of tea, after of course I had completed my email to your planning office, endorsing David's build.
Enjoy your so called '4 years disruption', you deserve it.

  10. I am sure they will be waiting with huge anticipation for your ringing endorsement.....

  13. Although, Mr Graham has gained a lot of free publicity by tabling this audacious development which is unlikely to be granted planning approval in it's present form. Mr Graham and his advisers know that this is just the start of another prolonged three way joust between Mr Graham and his advisers, local residents with environmentalists and RBK&C. However, Mr Graham, I understand, is in his mid seventies and life is far too short; he really should know by now the importance of peace and quiet. I think Mr Graham should really know better.
