Calling Coleridge
Time to introduce another councillor for inspection....
Step up Councillor Tim Coleridge. Tim is an all round good egg.

I think he is well regarded and liked
ReplyDeletewithout being a snob but a gent on the Conservative side: and they are few and far between.
ReplyDeleteCouncillor Coleridge shows an ability to listen to residents and take on board their views. Has integrity, unlike many of his peers.
ReplyDeleteLocal stakeholders would largely agree that Councillor Coleridge has acted in a thoroughly decent way with regards listening and responding to the needs of the Lancaster West community. He deserves much credit for doing so.

ReplyDeleteColeridge is streets ahead in terms of values and ethics than the likes of Betty, Warwick, Rock and the rest. He, actually, chooses to listen to residents and respond to their needs.......

That is probably one of his weaknesses, Anon 20:49. He is a very pleasant person and a real gentleman (unlike we all know who)but not great at taking guidance and not the sharpest knife in the drawer.
ReplyDeleteBut unlike our friend he would not stay on well past his sell by date just beacause he needs the money, because of course he does not need the money. But the question remains does he have the leadership skills and the intellectual capacity, probably not.
Cllr Coleridge deserves a chance as leader, it would be a revelation to see what someone who actually cares about residents can do in this Borough.

Let's look at Tim C. A feature that distinguishes this Council is the aroma of corruption: nothing so extraordinary about that;it's the result of a Leader who refuses tolerate any criticism and uses money(SRAs) and jobs to protect his own position. These are not leadership skills: they are things quite different.What it leads to-and it has, is a 'succession vacuum.'
So let us not write off Coleridge as Leader...The Dame suspects that when given responsibility he will acquit himself excellently and be a force that can bring rapprochment to a council divided and purposeless.

We do not wish to cause you the slightest offence for you are greatly revered and respected. But may we suggest in admonishing us on speculating about the succession to our Blessed Leader you are being just a little sanctimonious. Our great Conservative Councillors as they sit in their member’s room calculating their special responsibility allowances, graciously bestowed upon them by Blessed Leader, talk about little else other than how Blessed Leader can be helped on his way to a better place, where all Blessed Leaders (or most of them) have gone before him.

Tim Colleridge wants the job badly. And he has plenty of experience of the council and has served in several Cabinet posts. And he has lived in the Borough for many years.
ReplyDeleteHe is also one of the few who "listens" to residents and has made his views known on at least one occasion (Sloane Square) when he did not tow the party line.
But no one seems to know what he stands for. Just one of those terribly nice blokes. This is not how Leaders are supposed to behave. And he never took a stand on anything as a Member of the Standards Committee - he just did his best (which was very good) to smooth feathers. The Standards arena is a great opportunity to be forthright and take a position about what is "right" Colleridge seems to be incapable of this. A fair weather person
If he wants the job so badly he should challenge the incumbent Cllr Cockell. But this is not Tims style. It would ruffle feathers. And he just wants to please everybody.

It seems pretty clear that Collleridge is spineless. Not what K&C needs at the current moment
The Leadership style of "nice guys" is to build a team, delegate and share the work. It's steady state stuff.
ReplyDeleteBut officers have always found Tim difficult to work with. He gets muddled and is not clear in his directions. And the Mayor is supposed to share Mayoral duties with the Deputy Mayor. In his year as Mayor he hogged everything. The Deputy never got a look in.
The nuts and bolts don't seem to work. And "steady state" is not what Hornton Street needs. Its root and branch reform that is required.
Yes Owl. And the other Tim is getting to the stage that he is too old to be a 'new young leader'. If he sits on his hands much longer Ahern will have missed the boat. In fact he probably has already.

When Tim spoke at the main council meeting against Sloane Square it nearly killed him. The one time in his life that he got psyched up to take a stand on anything.
ReplyDeleteAnd he got the shock of his life. He did not figure out that Cllr Cockell would punish him by taking away the Mayor's job which he understood was to be his.
A lesson to the rat pack and a bruising for nice Tim. He never poked his head above the parapet again

Rock as Leader would be a disaster for the Borough. If it came to Rock versus Coleridge, the latter would be infinitely preferable.

ReplyDeleteCourteous and respectful, has a good idea of his brief. Notice also he treats the opposition decently which is always a good measure.
Not sure he could lead the council as he lacks that killer instinct but then again do we need another Cockell?

Apart from Sloane Square, Tim has never, in his whole life, taken a stand against anything in public or in private. Very polished fellow but also very shallow. He would have been a great client relationship guy in his father's Lloyds Members Agent

That well known thug Cllr Moylan gets things done. Focused, energetic and determined. This is the stuff of Leadership.

However a strong 2012 Committee of Conservative BAckbenchers to keep the rogue in check might be the answer for K&C
There is one distant memory of Cllr Coleridge chairing a Council Meeting and telling the dreadful disgraced ex Cllr Phelps to shut up during one his bullying and rude outbursts against a fellow member (Cllr Moylan)

ReplyDeleteCouncillor Coleridge has actually taken time to try and understand some of the problems facing residents in the North of the Borough. Moylan, on the other hand, treats North Kensington and it's Labour Councillors and local residents with total contempt.
