LAWYERING DUDES

leader of men pose

Mayoral motor

Two charisma bypass lawyers now control the levers of power: one 'uman rights and the other criminal.

The Dame has nothing against lawyers: indeed she employs a team of lawyers to manage her vast investments but should they run a major city and a failing country?

In years gone by this breed was given minor portfolio jobs....now they have taken over our lives.

How the Dame yearns for the old days when clever, spirited and charismatic men like Ernie Bevin ran the country.

Ernie, an old friend of the Dame, would not have given house room to a couple of bleak and bone-dry lawyers.

  1. The country has just voted en masse for moderate socialism. Yet on the BBC this morning, Ms Braverman angrily announced that the sole cause of this was the governments lack of sufficiently right wing policies. Apparently, it's not the UKs chronic lack of housing and medical staff etc, but its lack of "right" policies. She's frankly bonkers!

  2. This is a small county with limited land mass. We are attempting to squeeze in millions every year when we cannot even house those already here. Same goes for the NHS. Visit any hospital and you will see people waiting for treatment who cannot even speak English. We need a strict immigration policy allowing in only those able to contribute.

    1. The NHS vaccinated fewer babies in Kensington and Chelsea last year against whooping cough than a decade ago. The borough also has one of the lowest rates of immunisations against the disease in London. We need to do much better to ensure babies are picking up the vaccine for whooping cough in Kensington and Chelsea.

  3. I woke this dawn blissfully happy to be alive and positively purring with satisfaction that the local election results have brought Keir Starmer that much nearer to Downing Street , Sadiq Khan has received his just reward for patience & civility during a scrappy and unpleasant London Mayoral campaign and London Central ,at last, has a Labour Assembly Member able & representative of the majority of the local electorate .

And then I turn to Hornet and find that the Dame has got out of bed on the wrong side or her maid has drawn her bath at the wrong temperature. Dear Dame it is so out of character for you to ape the poor manners of others rather than to strike out alone with perceptive insights of your own. If the only observation that you can make about our triumphant Mayor & Prime Minister designate is that they are 'boring lawyers' then perhaps it is better to say nothing ?

And why the sudden urge for charisma in our political leadership . Haven't we had enough of the consequences of 'Charisma' with Blair, Johnson, Cameron and Trump? Look where that has got us! What we need now is a second Atlee , able to rebuild the nation from the ruins that the men of charisma have left us . Wake up dear lady & smell the coffee

    1. The Dame NEVER gets out of bed on Sunday. This infestation of lawyers in every part of the Body Politic.... You can't move without them. Worse, the dreary PPE grads, research assistants and SPADS ranks. Let's get some 'real' people into political life!

    4. Given the precariousness of a political career & the poor remuneration it attracts at any level I am constantly surprised at the number of decent and talented people who are still prepared to stand for office. I have no idea how to widen the pool ( other than to double the salaries perhaps , ban second paying jobs and forbid anyone who accepts Ministerial office from deriving any income ( other than their generous Parliamentary Pensions) for three years after leaving office. They could work of course but just not be paid for it .

    5. So the Dame stays in bed all day on Sundays. I hope she wears her best pearls after she has breakfasted and taken a shower.

    6. If what you say is true why do hordes vie to get seats? I have met many of this breed and few are decent and talented. Doubling the salary would do more than widen the pool of rogues waiting to get their nose in the trough. Chancers and spivs make up the majority

  4. Now, Richard Parker, the new Mayor of the West Midlands is exactly the sort of chap the Labour Party needs to find...son of a docker...left school at 16...qualified at PwC and started his own business. A paragon of political virtue for the Dame.

    1. Now Dame,

Compare the new Moderate Mayor Richard Parker to Kensington's former socialist MP Emma Dent Coad.

Emma is an aristocrat, who was formerly married to a man who is now a Baronet. She studied Design at an Art College In South Kensington and enrolled on a Doctor of Philosophy course at Liverpool University. She sent her children to one of the Country's top Public Schools. In local politics, she failed to appreciate the outstanding work of the Community Activist, the late Francis O'Connor, for resisting the Tory Council's tyranny over the refurbishment of Grenfell Tower in which 72 people later died. In Parliament, she aligned herself with the hard left, many of whom are Marxist. To use your term, dear lady, Emma is a"paragon of virtue" at race relations.

Whereas Mayor Richard Parker knows what it is to be a working class lad, to leave school at 16 and to have to get a job. AND to have the ability to start up his own business.

I thought she said she was "royalty." Next she'll be telling us that she was a Ladies Toilet Attendant when she was at Art College.

    3. EDC is not the Council tenants' friend. She connived with the Tories when she was on the TMO Board. Tenants were pawns in the games she played. Tenants were used by her screwed by the TMO.

  5. It's odd, isn't it? Along with estate agents, lawyers are in a hated profession yet we choose to put them in charge of our lives. Bonkers

  6. One good reason why lawThe world is so complex

  7. One good reason why lawyers can make good MPs, is that these days, even apparently mundane aspects of life are highly complex, a highly trained mind is needed to grasp them. Even more so, for making and amending complex legal frameworks. Integrity is also essential, as is humanity.

As for charisma, the public has had enough; see B Johnson & Co. A sadly diminished UK needs intelligent, honest and caring MPs. Dull as ditchwater perhaps; but in politics primarily to serve others; not to bolster their own egos.

  8. 8:53 too many laws in this country made by lawyers to create fees. We need to simplify life and keep government as far from our lives as possible. Lawyers as MPs equals mediocrity.

  9. Response from 8.53 above: We've had 14 years of a small government, 'lower' tax Conservative Boys' gang.
Eton-Oxford-Bullingdon Club have no need of public services. So they embarked on a massive cost cutting, small government exercise. Brexit has been disastrous; compounded by Covid. The Gang responded by throwing billions at personal friends for PPE + to criminals as so-called support + parties at No.10. No attempt has been made to chase the 'lost' public funds; doubtless because it wouldn't look good. The UK now has Victorian levels of inequality.
This country needs competent, diligent, dull, Starmer to clean up the Tory mess and rebuild decent public services.
