CHELSEA GREEN GONE...COUNCIL SUPPORTS DUTCH BUSINESS

South Yorkshire made bench but not good enough for the 'Royal Borough'!

Patrick McCrossan is the sort of no-nonsense Chelsea Green resident who should go on the Council. He writes on Nextdoor that seating for the mucked-up Chelsea Green open space is being bought from Holland.

We are supposed to be supporting British makers yet some officer with too little to do has decided to support a Dutch manufacturer. The Dame hopes that no oversea trip was involved in the buying.....

Two points need to be made....a perfectly attractive well-made bench(above) is made by a South Yorkshire company that boasts everything is made in Yorkshire from scratch.

This country's manufacturing base will wither away and die if we don't support our own companies.

The Council will claim it was cheaper to buy in Holland. They could also argue it could be more cheaply made in China. The Council need to produce price comparisons.

We are also told that Council officers who don't even live in K&C have decided to obliterate the name, Chelsea Green. No consultation with residents about discarding a quaint and attractive area name.

Patrick writes...

"Seating is being sourced from Holland and should be installed within next two weeks.

Drainage is being looked into.

Signage that currently means removing Chelsea Green forever is being considered. Currently, RBKC idea is to no longer have Chelsea Green as a name. It was removed without consultation and residents' thoughts were completely ignored."

  1. The more this council talks about involving residents with its daft surveys the more you realise its just flim flam

  2. The ward councillor is Kim Taylor-Smith. He has a background in business. He needs to understand that buying from Holland is a slap in the face to British makers

  3. What the f**k?

There is a recession. The country is drowning in debt. There is a Socialist Mayor of London who has raised his rates precept by 20%. AND A TORY COUNCIL IS TARTING UP CHELSEA SQUARE. One of the most attractive and tranquil garden squares in the Borough. Who is the twerp who dreamed this up and how did the daft idea pass political scrutiny?

    1. Oh naive Observer. There is massive over employment of Officers in Hornton Street. Too many bureaucrats with not enough to do. So ideas like this will continue to come forward. And then we have the really big problem. The failure of Leadership due to the hopeless, out of touch, and puffing Leader dizzy Campbell.

    2. There is an even bigger problem, 16.19. Dizzy has surrounded herself with "yes" persons and sycophants. We know who they are. And free loaders who dare not council caution and common sense. We know who they are too

Too many Councillors, way too many Officers, too much money to spend, not enough to do

  5. The seating plans for Chelsea Green are a minor scandal. The wooden blocks installed by Cllr. Faulks as benches on Kensington High Street are an abomination. Such a handsome street of Edwardian and early Twentieth century buildings & Cllr. Faulks thought to 'modernise' the landscape with varnished wood blocks that look like G-plan on steroids. The updating of Kensington High St. by the alliance of Cllrs Horton & Moylan bought the High St. twenty years of prosperity and relevance . But that injection of style has now run its course & the current council seems to have no idea how keep Kensington's premier shopping street alive .

    1. Kensington High Street won’t last another 20 years. Boarded up shops and empty pavements coming soon.

    2. Here's the irony...each shop pays 40% of its rental value in Business Rates. RBKC get a slug of those rates in order to promote business. You could not make it up as the late and unlamented Cllr Phelps was prone to say
