FELICITY TO END ENERGY CRISIS....

When we struggle to pay our bills it's irritating to have politicians claiming they can 'fix the energy crisis.'

This government had the opportunity to remove reliance on Russian gas by allowing fracking: it did nothing.

You cannot 'fix' a market-driven force, Felicity.

You should not mislead people by pretending you can.

TRAFFIC WARDENS OR POLICE ON THE BEAT?

Our streets are dangerous....moped gangs with knives and machetes are a constant threat.....

Has anyone noticed how traffic wardens proliferate our streets?

Apart from ticketing overstays, they seem to have no real purpose.

Last year RBK&C garnered over £56 million in parking fines.

We know this tax on motorists is supposed to be ring fenced and deployed on highway improvements but imagine how much safer we would feel if part of this tens of millions were invested in police on the beat?

Traffic wardens are a waste of space.

JUST TWO OBJECTIONS SO OFFICERS WILL GET TO DECIDE

We all moan about the lack of democracy in local government but often do nothing to use the machinery to have our say.

The blog has described the proposed infliction of a massive LED 24/7 advertising hoarding that will dominate Portobello Market.
Multiple objections are required to avoid officers using delegated powers to wave it through.
Looking HERE there are just 2 objections!
We have only ourselves to blame if this gets passed by default.
We need to object now!

A MESSAGE TO ALL FLOOD VICTIMS FROM CLLR ADOURIAN

An invitation from Cllr Adourian

Meeting on Thursday 29 September

Residents are welcome to attend the next session of the Flooding Risk Management Working Group, which will be scrutinising the impact on residents and businesses of flood risks. The meeting will take place on Thursday 29 September in the Council Chamber at Kensington Town Hall, starting at 6.30pm.

Details are here—the agenda should be published later today:

RBKC Committees > Meetings

Meeting on Wednesday 19 October

There will also be a separate Working Group meeting to discuss the Thames Water Independent Review of the flooding incident in July 2021. As well as representatives of Thames Water, it will also hear from the Independent Expert Group and the Consumer Council for Water. This meeting will take place on Wednesday 19 October in the Council Chamber at Kensington Town Hall, starting at 6.30pm.

Call for Evidence

If you have experience of flooding or flood risk management in the borough, you can also send in a written submission. The purpose of the Call for Evidence is to allow the working group to have a greater in-depth understanding of how residents are being affected by flooding and flooding risk. Ideally, your submission should focus on:

  • how flooding or flooding risk has affected your home or household
  • how flooding or flooding risk has affected your quality of life
  • what you have done, or would like to do, to manage flooding risk.

We will consider all the responses (which will be anonymised) as part of our evidence-gathering and in the development of the final report and recommendations.

The call for evidence opens on Friday 30 September and closes on Friday 4 November. Please email your submission to scrutiny@rbkc.gov.uk with ‘Flooding Scrutiny Submission’ in the subject line.

Kind regards,

Hamish

PORTOBELLO MARKET UNDER THREAT...WE NEED TO OBJECT...SO FAR JUST TWO OBJECTIONS

A mini version of a London Lites display: the Portobello Market version will be a giant in comparison

London Lites specialises in plonking its huge LED advertising displays in sensitive areas.

It now wants to inflict one of its soulless, garish pieces of kit on the edge of cheap perforated railings in front of the railway bridge. It will tower over the market flashing out a stream of digital ads day and night....a sort of visual equivalent of 'piped music.'

If granted this vast board will be permanent and open the door to every other outdoor advertising company.

The planning department has been remiss in not demanding that the applicant provide a link to its monstrosity.

Everyone who cares about the Market should object and insist that there be a realistic image of the monster.

You can see the application HERE and object

K&C WORKING HARD FOR YOU!

Two more wasting our hard-earned council tax!

Dear Dame

We are always told how well managed our little council is....well, the picture sends out a very different message. This stressed out bunch of K&C employees looked as if they had started the weekend early.

This sort of lounging around on our streets sends out a very poor message. It is interesting to compare this idle lot with our brilliant Suez street cleaners who work in all weathers to keep the streets clean.

Whoever manages this bunch should be sacked...oh, I forgot...councils never sack you from a 'job for life'.

A WELCOME REBELLION: A POLITICAL SAVANT PONDERS

In a week of momentous change when old certainties have disappeared it was good to spot a healthy turnout of Labour Councillors at Sunday's Kensington Proclamation of the new King at the V&A.

It was especially noticeable to see that many of them though not born in the UK are happy to demonstrate their loyalty to the British Monarchy.
Does this also demonstrate growing confidence and independence by the New Councillors in cutting the apron  strings from those fanatical Republican Cllrs
Dent Coad and Lari?
Under their leadership, Kensington Labour Party has repeatedly & vocally affiliated itself to 'Republic' the chief republican movement in the UK.

Does today's turnout by Labour Councillors in support of the new King perhaps presage a deeper change in the local party to reflect more mainstream views....views more closely aligned with the wider electorate and showing determination by Labour Councillors not just to be a 'backing group' for the personal whims of Emma Dent Coad & Sina Lari?
Such a change would not only be welcomed by the moderate majority of Labour supporters in Kensington but would certainly assist those new Councillors to gain support when they put their names forward in the contest next month to choose Kensington Labour's Parliamentary candidate.
Could September 2022 mark not just the greatly mourned end of the reign of Queen Elizabeth ll but the beginning of the end of that of Emma Dent Coad too?'

JUST A FEW DAYS NOTICE OF A VITAL FLOOD MEETING!

This message from Felicity Buchan is just not good enough. Residents' lives have been turned upside down: health seriously impaired and considerable financial distress suffered.

Felicity and Hamish Adourian should never have allowed Thames Water and Mike Woolgar to pull such a 'fast one' on us all.

To hold a vital meeting with just a few days' notice is worse than a slap in the face it is an attempt to hide away from victims.

Everyone needs to get to this meeting and put Mike Woolgar and his funders at Thames Water to the question.

Dear xxxxxx,

When I wrote to you in July, I promised that I would hold a session with residents and key flooding stakeholders in the Autumn.

I am pleased to invite you to our Kensington Flooding Question & Answer event next Thursday 15th September at 18:30-20:00.

Mike Woolgar, Chair of the Independent Review into the July 2021 Floods, Nevil Muncaster, Strategic Resources and Operations Director at Thames Water, Alex Nickson, Head of Thames Water's response to the July 2021 floods, and representatives from RBKC will be in attendance. Each will make a short speech before taking questions from residents.

Please RSVP at the following link, and the location will be sent to you 24 hours before the event:

https://www.felicitybuchan.com/floodingrsvp

We are looking into the possibility of livestreaming the event via Zoom, and I will hopefully have more details to share on that nearer the time.

Kind regards,

Felicity

CALLING RBKC COUNCILLORS: WE ARE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER

Famously, the odious George Osborne told us to tighten our belts as we were "all in this together".

Osborne then left politics and his wife and went on to make millions with a US investment firm.

We now face years of horrendous belt tightening set to impoverish us all.

This is the moment for Councillor Campbell to lead from the top and announce she and her team are slashing their allowances by 25%

As leader Campbell gets close to £1400 a week.

She is a rich woman and could, quite cheerfully, either substantially cut her allowance or donate to a charity helping hard-hit families.

Years ago the Dame was a county councillor and received no allowance apart from one for attending meetings!

There was never the gravy train that now exists.

FRIEND AND BUSINESS PARTNER OF 'SIR' PHILIP GREEN CLOSES DOWN S. KEN

When Richard Caring caused chaos by closing a main arterial road in South Kensington we overlooked his business provenance and long-standing personal and business relationship with the hideous Philip Green....two peas in a pod!
The Council says it was unable to stop the road closure. That claim needs further investigation.

Green

Green, lest it is forgotten, was a mate of Cameron whilst his chum, Caring, chucked Blair a couple of million for his election campaign....

It's all here DIRTY WASHING
