I was amused to read and agree with you over this ghastly, patronising, infantilising stuff pouring out of the Council.
It is to be expected from a Communist Party of China council but surely not our Royal Borough.
Is this all to show that post-Grenfell the Council has gone all touchy-feely?
This has just arrived at our block of flats and I managed to grab a copy before our porter shovelled them into his RBKC recycling bag(is this vertical integration of services?)
My first thought was that maybe your friend, Doctor Quirk, could heed this advice about staying active and my second, more important is wondering how much is all this unread junk costing us? I thought councils were short of money....
It's quite clear that our sainted Leader is putty in the hands of the plump doctor!

ReplyDeleteWhat is extraordinary in all this is the vast sizes of those in positions of Council responsibility who look quite morbidly obese and yet have the insolence to tell us to keep fit.Quirk had a bad dose of Corvid because he is so fat and our Mayor, Cllr Hargreaves looks so much like a balloon it's a winder he doesn't float away.

DeleteQuirk's former employer, the Labour controlled London Borough Lewisham, regularly patronised its residents by publishing crap of this kind at the Council Tax payers' expense. The only people who read it were Labour Councillors.

ReplyDeleteThis booklet was a really good effort by the council to reach those who do not have access to the council's digital comms output. The council are to be applauded for realising (albeit very belatedly) that not everyone is online - including many for whom these services are commissioned at taxpayer expense.
Are your readers really suggesting that such residents should be barred from accessible information about (and therefore access to) these services? Would they rather pay for services that do not reach those who need them? I know it's not in vogue among the great and good of K&C, but instead of boasting that this information is not relevant or necessary for them, your commenters could perhaps take a moment to consider those less fortunate than themselves, for whom this information is intended.
How condescending!So typical of someone like you from the Comms Dept to try to justify this waste with a blatant lie. I should think research would show that barely 1% of the population don't have access to digital media. Who doesn't have a smart phone these days? So, the 1% need to be told that they can stay active by taking a walk in the Park!This rubbish is put out to make the Leader feel good. So 80,000 copies are printed and 99% get thrown into recyling bags...sounds like clever stuff!
ReplyDeleteWho doesn't have a smart phone? Some elderly people, and people on extremely low incomes. The same for internet generally. How are these people supposed to access the services and information they need if the council comms are digital only? This booklet was a rare good thing from the council (they don't get much right, let's face it). What a pity some people in our borough are so ignorant, self-centred and uncaring.
